    Remember when the food and pan is hot it'll continue to cook when taken off the stove. You should definitely use a top for the pan. You'll save so much fuel using one!!

    I live close by to that section. I HATE that they closed off parking at the trail. 🤬
    That hill kicks your butt no matter what shape you’re in. 😁
    There was a dividing Rock before you went up the big rocks (to the left)...the trail heads down some steps .
    My photo on YT is from me at the first lookout. 🥾🏔
    Great video!

    Bro, this is crazy haha! I grew up in Phoenix and have lived in Florida for years. I live as close to the Equator as possible. The temperatures you talk about are insane to me! -20? "Oh, it's not cold, it's in the low 30's." What? Bro, I put on winter gear in the low 70's, no joke. I realize it's probably a blood thickness thing seeing as I have lived near the Sun my entire life. Crazy. Thanks for sharing!

    • @TheChrislewis1989
      @TheChrislewis1989 4 года назад

      Yeah up here in the north it's not considered cold cold until it's below zero really lol. I traveled the south west last summer. Man it sucked cuz it was 115°F and I thought I was going to die it was so damn hot. Lol!!

    • @TheChrislewis1989
      @TheChrislewis1989 4 года назад

      Yeah besides a coat when it's 30°F out I usually don't need a hat and gloves until about 10°F and then full winter gear below zero F. Lol. But I've also grew up here and been here my whole life 30+ years!

    There is actually a NPS AT parking lot just across PA Route 61 (the highway) from where you said you parked the time you came before. Those boulders were put there because that area, Peace Rock, was closed down to the public for unsafe and improper use after several drownings in the river, (swimming prohibited but people came from all over to swim anyway) but the AT does have designated parking nearby. Hopefully you come back again and explore some more of the AT in the area! Happy Trails!

    Wow, 2011. Has it really been that long we’ve been watching? Time flies when you’re having fun. Corona saw best value and cuts like a beast in both directions. Silky’s are pull saws.

    I have used my Bahco Laplander saw for several years. It has been reliable on camping outings and NCT trail maintenance efforts. It is a good value. I bought my dad one for Christmas this past year as he needed a new hand saw for hunting. I purchased a leather belt holster to keep it this saw more available while performing trail maintenance.

    Dude. At about 1:00:00, the fire is reflecting against something to your left, and it looks like a pair of eyes watching you eat. lol God that's creepy. Awesome video, as always! Regarding saws, I have a SOG that I've been carrying for about a year, and it works wonders. Fairly certain that it was in the $20ish range. 10/10 would recommend.

    Gomboy is a Silky model ... very good folding saw, although the F180 is a bit smaller (about the size of the coleman). The thing to remember is a Silky cuts on the "pull" stroke. Lots of RUclips videos on the Silky variations.

    Bahco Laplander is a pretty sweet saw. I had a Corona and liked it but the teeth stay somewhat exposed when closed. Not really too dangerous but gear could get caught in the teeth if your not careful. Silky makes some of the best saws I hear. Thanks for the video and for living it up for the rest of us.

    for your uses I would go with the Bacho Laplander. Cheap good saw that will work well for most of the stuff you will be doing.
    Now if you want to step up to a nice saw for winter when collecting more wood, like dead standing, and you want something more substantial I would get the boreal 21. The Boreal would also make a great gift for Mike as a Christmas present too. He would love that saw!

    Nice vid Sean. hey, the gomboy is a model of Silky:) Also , I bought the F180 . It will make your ( my first also ) Coleman seem like a dull butter knife !! I also have the laplander , the F180 smokes it for cutting , but the laplander is more robust. Stay warm and safe in the Whites !!! ........later gubs........ oh yeah , jtlyk the gomboy is a smaller saw than the F 180

  • @MstrRo

    At the base of a tree, the ground is warmer than the surrounding air. If you flip your bottle of water over so it is upside down at the base of tree, it will reduce the probability of it freezing. If it does freeze, since the water will freeze from the top down, it is more likely you will be able to remove the lid in the morning.

    If this type of folding saw is working well for you then the Bahco saw is excellent bang for your buck. For larger tasks there are some nice folding buck saws out there. Bob Dustrude’s Quick Buck Saw, Boreal 21, and Sven saw are a few good choices.

    Hey Sintax.
    Great vid as always. You said you had a 2016 edition of AWOL's guide? Check page 115 on the right. It's been awhile since I have been to PA so perhaps the regs have changed for the PA State Game Lands. The regs were the same IIRC when I was there in 2014 and I think have largely been the same for some time. One night wild camping legit within 200' of the AT (the "corridor") & 500' from water sources, trailheads, road crossings & official parking areas. Interestingly there is that notation that you have to start and end in different places. Oops? ;)
    Keep up the good work!

    I can provide some insight on the parking situation Shawn. About 2 years ago they closed that lot ( very close to the Cabela’s correct?) they moved it a couple miles up the main road there. I parked in the original lot where you and Mike parked all those years ago, to do a day hike, 3 hours later I came out to my truck missing. Got TOWED. So yea that turned into a $250 day real quick

      Reason that place you park before was closed, during the summer was a popular place to swim locals call it the rock.
      People used the rock to dive into the river but it got out of control crowds drinking, littering, got so popular cars were parking all the way back to the highway (Rt61)
      I recall one time when someone needed emergency medical help and with the large crowds they had a very difficult time getting in, eventually Township had to close off the area

    I have the Coghlan, Corona and a Gorilla folding saws...go with the Corona. It's a larger tool but it is an excellent saw, strong handle and the blade works the best of my three. Keep a small can of WD40 to keep it lubed which lessens the friction of the sawing action. My best bushcraft saw is a collapsible Sven...awesome tool but I have to carry it in an arrow quiver mounted on the outside of my pack. An 18" axe complements the wood processing tool set.

    Silky makes the gomboy. It's a good saw. Silky saws only cut on the pull but they are fantastic saws. I own 2. The pocket boy and big boy. both will cut through hard and softwood like butter. Gomboy is the middle size of those two. They all perform the same just different sizes. They are super aggressive and come in different tooth sizes.

    I like the heavy rain pants for the exact same reason. That with a jacket it's like a clean sit zone.

    So you got rid of the V Dub!The Rubicon is one hell of an upgrade,but will you be driving this on all your backpacking trips?Fuel economy will be much worse but you do now have true 4WD-with locking diffs front and rear-and Dana 44’s.
    Was the Volkswagen just done?

    Nothing good on Tv tonight, doesn't matter a new Sintax video on, makes for a very good sunday night. I notice you have sealskinz gloves on, how do you like them ? and is there a review coming soon, thanks again, and keep them video coming.

      Thanks, Chris. I've had the Sealskinz gloves since our Iceland trip back in October and I've been really liking them. Always dry, decent warmth and very good amount of dexterity .

    I’d like to recommend a Bahco Laplander folding saw. They’re Swedish made and carbon steel.

    hey sintax77 when do you think you'll do another vermont camping trip? Very curious what region of Vermont you'd end up trying to camp, i'm 10 minutes from the canadian border in Saint Albans

    • @sintax77
      @sintax77  7 лет назад

      Good question. I don't know for sure, but I do want to get back up there. I've got one more winter trip to do before the season ends, but I would love to get back to Vermont for some warmer hiking too. But spring is mud season, of course. Hmmm, decisions, decisions... :) Any cool hikes along the Canadian border, or even slightly over it that you would recommend?

      sintax77 I’ve heard good things about the northeast kingdom, guess there are some wicked cool quarries w/crystal clear water like ocean blue. I cannot confirm that but my coworkers have been there and talk about how cool of a spot to swim and relax it is..I’ve also been hiking in Jeffersonville, and there are some wicked mountains and waterfalls in that area. My buddy has a deer camp in the central VT area in a tiny town called Fayston, and that also is a cool place to really go off grid and do some hikes along the vast/snowmobile trails there. Any of those areas would be ideal, but personally trying to find an ocean blue quarry in the middle of nowhere seems like quite the intrigue. Hope to see ya make another vid with your spring plans as the warmer weather continues to progress! -Jake

    That sock makes me claustrophobic just looking at it. Haha. It seems so light... does the wind twist it up and flap it around all night?

    • @sintax77
      @sintax77  7 лет назад +1

      It actually stays quite secure. No gettting spun around in the wind or anything. There's a bit of resistance from coming in contact with the ridgeline and underquilt that seem to keep it in place pretty well, so once you set the vent where you want it it stays put like that nicely.
