  • The Ford Expedition arrived in the late 1990s, a time when carmakers seemingly couldn’t build SUVs fast enough or big enough to satisfy people’s desire for big off-roaders. Well, through four generations, it has matured into a fully modern utility, checking off all of the boxes of today’s buyer’s must-have list. So, where do we go from there?

@K.C. Marshall My own personal experience suggests otherwise. Until recently, I owned a '13 F150 Platinum with the Ecoboost motor. Drove it ca. 200k miles. The only major repairs were an evaporator coil and a fuel injector. Motor ran as smoothly on trade-in as the day I bought it new. And while I can say I truly loved driving my Ford, I'm no fan boy either. I traded on a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 with the 6.2l V8. Basically, I wanted to own a (new) full size truck with a V8 before they go the way of the dinosaurs.

  • @VortexGarage

I'd love to pick one up but in the current climate, paying at or over MSRP, plus the risk your new truck sat in a parking lot for months waiting on a module, makes me want to wait. The battery fan recall is a great example of how these trucks suffered from parts shortages by Ford using other suppliers for that.
Otherwise to me this is a great all around truck. All covered storage, plenty of room to stretch out, room for dogs and gear, and good power. With tow package can do over 9k. Though it is a bit fancy for dirty work, but I've got the beater work truck I rebuilt for the nasty and really heavy stuff.
I really like these but not a fan of the car market these days...
Also I want to see if the updated cam phasers are reliable and also has Ford worked out the cracking valve covers on the 3.5.

I'm always seeing many more Tahoes, Suburbans, Yukons, and Yukon XL's no matter where I go. I remember when the Expedition and Excursion were first introduced, I saw many Expeditions, but not many Excursions. I see many more previous generation Chevies and GMCs than Fords, with the same for Cadillac vs Lincoln.

Ford just can't get it right. This truck NEEDS a V8. The turbo V6 just doesn't do it here. If I'm paying almost $65,000 for a truck, its gotta have a V8. You need those 2 extra cylinders for the longevity of the truck. The turbos are likely to go out at 50-100k, making this a hard sell for most folks. I suspect most of them will stick with XLT trim as well. The touch screen placement is ugly as usual, but at least it doesn't take away the physical buttons like the top trim does. Overall, I don't see this selling well. In a world full of 3rd row crossovers, it's hard to sell something that costs twice as much, and you get less for your money as a result.
