    Some people are having trouble with the Audio not syncing on this video. Please be sure you are in 1080P and it should be correct.

    The level of skill and knowledge you have in metalworking never ceases to amaze. Great job on this video and the ball.

    Nice touch making the centre to aid set up, used my home made one first time today, made everything barvthe boring head.
    Got carried away with thrust and linear bearings.the set up is gold on yours.

    Very cool, in never ceases to amaze me what you can make on a metal lathe.

    I liked the way you put the work piece backward in the collet I'm stealing that tip

    we are always amazed at the things that you are able to make. I think you should build a custom lathe from scratch! It would be so cool and I know you could make each and every part!!

    We had a ball or radius tool that would turn a radius on your part that you were making, The problem was it had a lot of chatter when you used it. You had to make baby Cuts to finish out your ball. I think thats a good Idea. I would of never thought of using a boreing head that way on a lathe.

    get that sound in snyc my man. but excellent use of a boring head well done

    Would it be a good idea to drill a third hole in the boring head to accept the cutting tool?
    That way you can see and use the adjustment screw without stopping the operation..😉

    I'm still not exactly sure what you were doing, but I enjoyed watching along anyway. Nice shirt, btw! Also, ball joke.

    I'd recommend getting a smaller tap wrench for taps that small. They have shorter arms so you can't really put as much torque on the tap.

    I wonder if possible to make 2 inch balls with it? Thanks

    Mine has a longer handle with a crank / bend to clear the tool post.

    Why didnt you just mount that M3 tap in the tailstock chuck if you were worried about torquing it off with the tap wrench

    Holy shit that R8 arbor just unscrews? That can't be safe for mill work, which was it's intended use.

      Pretty sure this is how the majority of them are made but not positive.

    Why is it every ball turner I see makes eggs and not a true round ball?

    • @HighCaliberCraftsman
      @HighCaliberCraftsman  3 года назад +1

      True round is tough because there is only one perfectly true and an infinite number of not rounds. Ill have to put a mic on the aluminum one I turned to see how close I got!

    • @jagboy69
      @jagboy69 3 года назад

      @@HighCaliberCraftsman I dont need a 100% ball, but it just cant look like an egg. Maybe with some practice you'll get closer.

      The tool post height has been overlooked. Get an indicator on the chuck and dial the bore of the tool post holder - where he tapped in the bushing. Get that set to zero and no more eggs.

    Being careful with a large tap wrench with small taps is the reason they make small tap wrenches 😜

  • @axa.axa.

    If your so scared to tap with that t handle make a dedicated small thumbscrew handle.
    Not sure of a turner that that lacks rigidity. There are other basic designs that would provide significantly better performance

    First, throw away the cheap Chinese trash so-called "boring bars." Secondly, what have you achieved by cutting a sort of a ball shape with a boring head? There are numerous videos on RUclips which shows exactly the same process. Show something which can be used to cut internal and external radii, and please, using steel, stainless steel etc., and not aluminium or brass which is soft.

    • @kaijumoto
      @kaijumoto 2 месяца назад

      What a trash reply. He showed you can make a ball with a boring head. This isn’t a video about turning a radius internal or external for that matter. There are other videos for that. And so what if he chose aluminium? He could cut steel or stainless if his feeds and speeds are right. You must be fun at parties saying that the place isn’t Studio54 and why bother having a party.

    Hobby machinist wasting his time. Buy a CNC Lathe, used 90s Mori's are dirt cheap

    • @kaijumoto
      @kaijumoto 2 месяца назад

      That’s all you can add? You’re just sealioning. He doesn’t need a CNC lathe.
