Their marketing metrics were clearly for the short term... and the most critical marketing error... They marketed a product to the wrong demographic. Marvel and DC fans are like breakfast cereal shoppers. We do not mind variations of Lucky Charms or Frosted Flakes, but when a box of Frosted Flakes is filled with Trix, it is a problem.
The people making X-men 97 have said that they would want to make the new X-men movie. I hope they make the movie because X-men 97 is the best thing we got from Disney in a while.
I wouldn’t be surprised since the Fantastic Four film is set in a different universe. My guess is that Deadpool 3, new X-Men film, and Fantastic Four will reintroduce all those characters. Secret Wars will end in a reset of the Marvel universe, and the Deadpool world, X-Men world, and Fantastic Four will be combined with main MCU leading to a new timeline where all of the heroes coexist. This would make sense since the comic Secret Wars merged some of other universes’ characters into 616 (Miles Morales, Jimmy Hudson Jr, Old Man Logan). This also gives Disney the opportunity to retcon and undo some mistakes from recent projects and course correct.

To be honest, the mcu next phase could be all about the Xmen that universe is enrich with great stories and then they could introduce Apocalypse and then Secret Wars could bring in Fantastic four soon
The only problem with the multiverse and time travel is that it lowers the gravity of any losses. If you can time travel or go to infinite multiverses you can bring back any characters Rick & Morty style.

the best alternate X-Men universe in my opinion was always the Age of Apocalypse but if they did it true to the comics Charles would not be alive in that universe as it is a universe where Magneto formed the X-Men but ultimately failed to protect humans and mutants alike in the rise of Apocalypse. Cyclops, Beast, Havok worked for Mr. Sinister who was a Horsemen of Apocalypse. It ended in one of the most brutal death scenes in the comics where Magneto used his powers to rip Apocalypse in half vertically.

x-men 97 is easily the benchmark. has to match or be better (which i highly doubt) but that's the level we all expect from them. 97 has been an absolute mega hit.

The reason some are tired of the Disney plus shows in the MCU is b/c of a lack of direction of the multiverse. The overall story is basically going nowhere and fans Want Change! I really really hope DP3 will give the fans some direction of where this overall story is going even though DP2 was good but the overall story was boring. the MCU just needs to kick it into Gear and show the fans where this multiverse story is actually going!
Comics have been doing this for years, ESPECIALLY DC LOL how many "crisis" now? It's why there are so many versions of superman: Golden Age (can only super jump, not fly), Silver Age (much more sci-fi, expanded superman family, VERY strong superman and the inspiration for the 78` movie), and Modern Age. This is the only way to fix the MCU and make it more like the comics organically, it had an admirable run without having access to all of its characters/storylines.
This is a way for Marvel to change the face of what the MCU was to what they want it to be. It's their way of changing the guard, and what they want it to be may not align with what the core fans want, but I guess we will see what Kevin has in mind either way.
I just hope that after deadpool 3 they stop the bs with agendas and PC and get down to building up the multiverse colliding and and good entertaining storytelling.
