Good, fair review. Been thinking about buying these. I've got a pair of Vivos from 2012 that are still going strong! Hard to believe they cost a measly £45 back then!
A great review! I do boxing training and I was not sure whether I should go for Primus Lite III or Motus. Vivo C/S team said Motus might make a better option for me due to its sturdy construction, but as I watch this review, it became all clear now. lack of flexibility and restriction of movement of Motus wouldn't serve me well. So Primus Lite III for me! Thank you for the review!
Good choice! I do a lot of striking sports (boxing, Muay Thai, kickboxing) and if I’m wearing something on my feet - it’s the Primus Lite 🔥. Let me know how you get on 🙌🏽
I regularly do CrossFit WODs and strength training in my Vivos (Primus Trail II FG and Primus Trail Knit FG). I absolutely love it. Not going back to Nanos and/or Metcons. These Motus are a step in the right direction for cross training.
We’re cut from the same cloth! 100%, you should try out the Motus if you ever get the chance - I’d be interested to hear how you think they stack up next to the Trail Knit!
I also use Primus trail Knit but I have to say the sole is so hard (shoes come for trail running). At the and of a WOD with rope jumps, box jumps etc.. my feet feel so bad especially the metatarsal area. So I was wondering if these motus (or the primus lite knit) will have a softer bouncing sole?
They’re brilliant and what I’ve relied on almost exclusively for the past 3 years BUT if you’re doing lots of movements with toe impact, or rope climbing etc, these are well worth looking into. If not though, the Primus lites are 👌🏽
@@simplymiya3820 I would get the lite BEFORE the knit as the knit has much more flexibility in the upper making it less stable for high intensity work. @@TheBarefootStrengthProject Thank you for your recommendation. I have such small feet, so I’m thankful that Vivobarefoot came out with a women size 4.5. I’m wearing Nike Metcons since they have small sizes but I don’t love the shoes as much.

looks more sturdy than primus lite. Will defo consider those once my replacements wear down (got toe holes after 3 months). This is my problem with Vivo's: their shoes wear down mad fast for the $ but at least they honor replacement policies and warranties. They charge people so much because they included inevitable replacements and recycling into the shoe price. Heard they also sell recycled shoes as new in hopes they will hold up, so they are easy on replacements.
Yes and no, I’ve been through many a pair but find the greatest amount of wear happens when I’m using them outside of their designed scope. Using the Tracker Forest ESC’s on concrete for example but as you say they’ve always been on it with replacements and the revivo (return and repair service) is top notch. Hopefully I’ll get to do a video on it at some point!
Been wearing vivos for 10 years. I find the soles will last for years... Unless you run frequently. I for sure have never had a pair develop actual holes though.
I just wish they would they would add the send in to get repaired for North America cause some of mine are going to be breaking down soon and I won’t be able to get them fixed, I can only send them into revivo so that they won’t get put into the landfill. @@TheBarefootStrengthProject
On the why shoes aren't minimal I was watching some historical shoe videos on RUclips, in the 1810-1840's heels went away, after becoming fashionable in the 1700's. I've also took another chance on Vivo getting a pair of primus all weather which fit better over the foot and have less toe space. I think what was happening with my previous shoes is the loose fit meant they slid forward slightly which wore away the lugs after a week.
I have these shoes. Their great except for someone who does a lot of explosive lateral movement. Best way i can explain it, is I couldn’t play basketball in them full speed.

Great review man! 😌 I've been wearing barefoot shoes daily for the last 9 months, including when I play volleyball. I'm training to improve my vertical jump and hopefully dunk one day, and I've been doing so in barefoot shoes. I've had a pair of vivobarefoot primus lite III, primus trail III, Magna trail FG, and Xero 360 which have worked well. I find the narrow toe-box of typical shoes doesn't grant enough surface area when pushing through my toes during the run up for a jump. And I dont feel like i get anything from the cushioning and stack height either. I also watched your review of the Hydra ESC, and I'm wondering what you think would be a good pair for jumping outdoors on concrete. I'm using my primus trail IIIs for this at the moment, and I play volley in my magna fgs. Thanks!
I've loved jumping in my xero 360s, and my primus trails (though at the beginning I found a bit of foot roll with these). The wear in for my magna fgs was real rough but they're great to play in. To be honest, I'm not 100% sure how sustainable barefoot shoes will be for jumping but I've been using them to jump everyday for the last 9 months largely without problem. Anyway I'm curious to see what options you'd recommend I try for my next pair! My primus' are on their last legs as far as jumping goes hahaha
The low top tracker decons are pretty awesome for that stuff OR you could use your Primus Trail III's BUT with an extra insole (so 2 in total) to help with the impact of repeated jumping!

Hi, great reviews, sir! May I ask, what Vivobarefoot model/s do you recommend for basketball? I've bought a pair of Decon FG2 Low on 45, and they are fantastic for walking, running, but not that amazing for lateral movement.
Thank you! I’m not sure there is a perfect option, these (Motus) have got the best lateral support but aren’t fantastic for running and you’d be paying for a lot of features you wouldn’t need (rope knurling and heel sliders for example), the Primus lites could be an option but again, lack lateral support. No matter which way you go there probably will always be a bit of a compromise
Should be good, not the most comfortable for running distance but given the runs are broken up it shouldn't be an issue and will be the best option for the Hyrox specific movements
What do you think about the grip? I usually run wearing Merrell vapor glove or merrell trail glove but I’m looking for better shoe for Hyrox (better grip for the sled, wider toe box, better ankle support…..) do you have any better suggestion?
@@CHLS821 I've used them for some very heavy sled pushes (250kg +) and they held up well. If you're concerned about it though you could order them (Motus) and the Primus Trail FG (which have lugs) then try them both out to see which you prefer. Vivo has a 100 day return policy so can just send back the loser
What about Zumba and cardio kickboxing classes....Which shoe is better? I'm not sure If I should get the vivo lotus or the primus lite. I have the noble knit runners and they hurt my feet when doing these classes.
Notorious lift radix and xero neo prio are cheaper options though. And will meet your requirements. FG is a trail shoe. And motor flex is a crosstraing/crossfit shoe. Notorious lift radix also look better for casual ware.
Hello! I normally wear a 43 EU in the rest of my daily sneakers (Nike, Autry...) and they fit me well, neither tight nor loose...what size do you recommend?
Hi! I personally go true to size with Vivo as I like a snug fit but still with width in the toe box. They do have a size guide tool on the website which is quite accurate and a 100 day return policy so if you do get the wrong size you can switch them over pretty easily!
I have pair of these, Haze Trainers and York Athletic Franks. The Motus is basically useless in mixed classes and I am in excellent shape. They are extremely poor laterally but great stationary lifting. The Haze is best overall and the Yorks superb with very athletic workouts. Overall the Motus has virtually no application for me.
I’d be all over that! I was actually wondering the other day about the shoes racing drivers wear, I’d imagine they can’t be that far away from barefoot shoes save a slightly narrower toe box. Maybe I’ll get a pair to test out 😆
What do you think about Motus and plyometric, power and speed type of workouts (with a lot of jumps and change of direction)? I have been using Primus Lite III previously and they held up pretty well, except if I accidentally slide the upper gets damaged easily and I have to be conscious of it when I am tired and technique gets sloppy. When using with Toes Spacers, toes don't slide around on change of direction movements and it gives good balance between stability and mobility. I was wondering if I should change up, but I heard Primus Lite Knit slides around on lateral movements because of their upper, but I am wondering if Motus are not too stiff and their sole would not wear out fast because of rapid side movements. As I understand Motus would be great for weightlifting and, but maybe the TYR L-1 would be more extreme version of that.
Durability wise they stack up better than the Primus Lites due to the exoskeleton, the 'cup' style sole also provides a more supportive base allowing for quicker changes of direction - especially in comparison to the knits. I haven't found their soles to wear out any faster than the lites so far (after a solid year + of use). The Tyr L1 would be a heavy step towards weightlifting by comparison, definitely not suitable to any plyometric work!
Durable enough for the track? Or is there a better suited barefoot shoe for sprinting? (Ideally one with spikes) This seems to have the most all-round stability (I can't stand my feet sliding as I sprint and turn hard corners).
I’ve done a lot of UK winter trail running and found the Primus Trail All Weathers to be about as good as you can get. That said, if you’re running through fields, puddles etc wet feet are a near inevitability 🙌🏽

Did you just say "first impression number two"?

Shoe is great but if you live in hot, humid climates or desert climates they are unbearable they are covered in tpu plastic that cooks your feet and pretty much guarantees smelly, athletes foot. Otherwise I loved them just can't open own them.
You’d be surprised, I used the ones in the video to train in Bali for 6 months and they held up pretty well!
@@TheBarefootStrengthProject were you training outdoors as well? Did they do well in the sun? Like 90 degree weather🥲
@@Klumsyy13 I did train outside in them in temperatures over 90f but never in direct sunlight
