Honestly, I'm in no shortage of gym gear but I keep watching your videos because you seem like such a nice guy with positive vibes and these videos are a nice little escape for me. Have a great day Jake!
Great review! Very happy you talked about the breakin near the start of the toes. I got the jjf primus knits and having the same issue. Was worried that it would stay that way and would have to send them back. Only had them for a few days, so I’ll keep using them and see how they turn out. Also mine is mainly just as a daily casual shoe.
@thatfitfriend - I have the same issue with my Primus Ludo Hi Junior shoes since it’s made of the same/similar materials. When I first got it, I found it odd that this needed a break-in period. I thought it was just me because my Primus Sport Junior and Primus Trail Juniors didn’t require a break-in period.
I bought these shoes because of this review and I have absolutely loved them. First pair of barefoot shoes ever and I could not be more thrilled with them. Thanks Jake!
Thanks for the video. When you say "short runs", how do you feel about these for explosive sprints all the way up to a mile run? I run a mile as a warm up to my workouts. Currently using the 210 XF and those are great for running as they are super light and don't dig into the heel or are overly bulky.
Shorter runs are usually a mile down for me. I'll hit 400-800 meter intervals. These would be fine, but they won't compare to the lightness of the 210 if you love them for that!
Great video and nice review as always! Do you think the Motus could work also as a tennis shoe? Or do you have other models in mind that could work better?
They could...however, with their higher price point I tread lightly saying they'd be worth the investment in the event they break down quick because they're not designed for that. Motus would work, but I'd also look into models like the Xero Shoes 360!
Great review as always. This is my favorite shoe for everything except running. Although the grip is excellent for short sprints. I am curious if you have a current favorite barefoot/minimal shoe for running?
Yyour reviews are really on point and always excited to watch them. Motus are my favorite Vivo shoe too. I wear an 11.5 US. Vivo doesn't have 11.5 and primus 12 are loose but 11 is too tight. I found the vivo 11 motus to fit really great. My biggest issue with them is that they run hot, haven't worn them without socks yet but I'm not sure I can wear them in really hot climates as my daily. The rubber on the top of the toes is really nice because that would rip easily when I was doing Bulgarian split squats with the primus. I found that your point of the rear rubber hook was interesting, I generally have an issue with hard plastics in the back of shoes but in this case no problem. This is the first time I've owned a booty construction vivo, I wonder how the elasticity will hold up over time. I also really enjoy them for barbel OHP and Squats, I was able to lock myself in more than ever before. With my primus I used them for hiking in water falls, submerged them under water and even swam with them, they held up very well. I'm considering returning my all weather primus trails and see if I can get similar use out of these although it would be off label.
Hey Jake I read that motus strength is tighter as compared to primus lite 3. I have primus 3 42 size EU. Do you suggest buying a size smaller for the Motus strength?
When it comes to the sizing. Is it smaller than their other shoes. I’m currently wearing the Primus lite knit, in a 44 EU and I’ve heard the sizing should be a little bigger on the motus. Would you recommend going down a size for the motus strength? : )
I'd buy the same size you currently wear in Vivo, imo. I find the Motus to fit more TTS, but not crazzzzyyyyy diff than the Primus line which I find runs long. Motus is a smidge shorter and feels TTS because of the upper imo
Great review friend!! If I wear a Primus Lite 3 size 11 (a tiny bit loose but no prob) should I also get a size 11 for the Motus Strength?? Thanks in advance
I just got mine yesterday and I agree with all the pros. I mainly do bodybuilding type workouts but I’m implementing more calisthenics and they felt great for that. The toe box did feel stiff in the creases so I’m glad that will go away after a while
If I missed it I apologize, are these shoes machine washable? I am cursed with only being able to wear white shoes and also like them to look clean. Just curious on the ability to keep these clean through machine washing, obviously not wanting any breakdown
Great video about this new model, which is also expensive in Europe (190 Euros). About prices, I find that VV has increased their selling prices quite a bit since a couple of years... I am not sure to understand correctly when you say "true to size" compared to Primus: are these Motus slightly smaller than Primus ?
Such a helpful video! Torn on the sizing here. I have the Primus Lite III and Primus Lite Knit, Both in a 40EU women's, and they fit wildly different. 40 in primus lite III fits perfect, but 40 in primus lite knit are too long. Which do you feel the Motus size most similar to?
I have three pairs of the Tracker Decon FG 2's and they fit wonderfully. My shoe size is 9.5 but in all barefoot shoes I've ordered a US10. Do you think just rolling with the US10 in the Motus Strength is a good choice?
Hey Jake I am thinking about buying this shoeas for the gym. It will be my first barefooot. My feet are 23.5cm (EU 36) I’ve read on their webstite you should add approx 6mm for comfort of your toes so let’s say I should choose 24cm shoe (EU 37). Thank you for great review!
Thoughts on sizing - I ordered two pairs of Primus Lite Knit to compare sizing, EU42 and EU43 - the 43 felt slightly too long, and the 42 felt slightly too snug. Sent them both back as neither felt quite right. Would you recommend 42 or 43 for the Motus strength?
You mentioned the Primus lite is a bit long and i noticed that myself. Wears like a whole size larger. So you recommend i order the same size as Primus Lite if i want a slightly smaller size?
I'm a person that plays SMX (DDR/ITG/PIU). I play with alot of movement and speed in a very small area and I've been looking for a nice flat shoe that can fit my wide feet, but also feels snug. I've used Underarmour shoes with a protalus insole and it comes up to about 390g per shoe, which I'm use to, but when I got a new pair of underarmour they just felt to heavy. I've worn down the bottoms pretty good, but thats helped me alot stepping on the dance pads. I worry about how grippy these shoes might be. I need a little grip but not an excessive amount, sticking to the Acrylic can really put alot of strain on my shins. Would you recommend these shoes? I know this is a weird question, but being able to feel the dance pad and where I'm stepping and how much to the beat is vital to high scoring.
I would also consider the Primus Lite Knit from Vivobarefoot or the Tolos Archetype 2.0! Think those could be good options and their grip should align with your asks. The Tolos model may actually be better for being a little more forgiving on that front.
I have to size down from a 43 to 42 in the primus light model vs the rest of vivo barefoot shoes, would you do that for these as well? Also, sizing reflects as women’s on the site - is it unisex sizing?
Hello my friend, This shoe seems to have a wider toe box at the forefoot than the Primus Lite. Is this because of the "toe cap" or is this really the case? I have a bean shaped feet (not wide, more like medium), and the Primus Lite is too narrow for me (I mean, there's not enough room for the big toe, because it's too straight). Other Vivos (Geo Curt, Magna) are perfect for me.
They're not that much wider and you're right it's the upper that gives them a wider look. You'd prob feel just as snug in these especially since the upper has less stretch to it! I'd pass on em
@thatfitfriend Hey Jake, I found the Primus Lite III was a bit loose with half an inch of toe space at size 45EU. Comfy and totally usuable though for everyday walking. I went down to 44EU and while I use this size for training, my toe is super snug and right up against the end. What size should I get in the motus strength knowing this?
Quick question, have you tried size 9 in the primus lite knit and/or the primus lite 3 do you notice a difference between the two at all in sizing? I have the knits in a 10 and I love them but they are a bit longer/spacier above the front of my foot than I'd like. Wondering if I got the primus lite 3 or the knits again if I should try a 9 or 10. Thanks!
Hello! I normally wear a 43 EU in the rest of my daily sneakers (Nike, Autry...) and they fit me well, neither tight nor loose...what size do you recommend?
I'd stick with 43 EU in these, or at least try that first. May take a little plug and play because Vivo can fit vastly different depending on the model!
I am between buying the primus lite knit or the motus . I run in my neighborhood and some light trails. Also calisthenics and casual wear for weekends. Only have enough $ for 1 pair. What would you suggest?
I'd go Motus. Will give you more traction for the light trail ask and they tend to have better long-term durability overall! Plus, less toe box creasing.
I have wide feet, my everyday wear is New Balance 624 size UK10.5/EU45 in 6E width. I measured my feet at 275mm long and 112mm wide. I got width measurements for these sizes when I phoned customer service, UK10/EU44 is 110mm, UK11/EU45 is 112mm. The length matches the size chart. These fit true to size and are properly wide. Ignore the StrutFit advice that they run large, that's incorrect. They're a good close fit with sports socks, you can wear liner socks for more room. The heel stays in place without needing heel locks. I've worn them indoors but not used in the gym yet. I'm really happy I managed to get gym shoes that actually fit! Plus I got 30% off in the Vivobarefoot sale, down from £170
You're an exception with 6E width, imo. Most folks buying these will be D-3E as those are most common so length def factors in more, but I agree, compared to other Vivo models these run more TTS. I'd try out some of the other models like the Primus Lite Knit, III, or Motus Flex and assess their length. Keen to hear if you find those long like most do
I have about 23mm of space in front of the big toe. Maybe I could've sized down to UK 10.5 if they did half sizes but the extra width suits me. I've sized up too much before, ended up with clown shoes 😂
i was pretty interested in this shoe with it being my first barefoot shoe for training. my shoes size is kinda all over the place but, in my nike invincible run 3s, i wear a 9.5 with a good amount of space in the front toe. Should i go for the 9 or 10?
Hey @thatfitfriend I just got my motus strengths, after putting them on, my right foot has the beginning of a bunion and so that shoe is tight across that forefoot. You said they break in eventually, think that’ll subside?
How aggressive is it on your foot? They'll break in but a bunion is another story and I don't want you to go too deep into this model only to be uncomfortable.
Um it’s not terribly aggressive, I wore them for the first time today and was pleasantly surprised at home much I didn’t notice my feet. But I’m curious if you think a different model of the vivo’s would better for a bunion girl like me? Or if you have any other suggestions for CrossFit shoes and/or bunion fixing. Thanks!!
Currently have the lite knit model. I wear a 9.5 US usually, but sized down to a 9 and they fit well. Still maybe even a little room in them. I have a more narrow foot than a wide foot. If I got the motus strength, what size would you recommend?
do you use barefoot shoes only for certain activities? i know you review shoes. but you certainly prefer to use in some situations and others not. Like long distance runs you dont use it right?
Good eye! I regularly rotate shoes based on reviews, training goals, and overall needs. I'll wear barefoot shoes if I'm doing interval runs, sprints, and sometimes miles here and there. I actually run more with barefoot shoes on trails because it doesn't beat me up as bad. I'll also typically opt for barefoot shoes for daily wear, some athletic/leg workouts, and for tugging! Always context dependent and based on how my body is feeling, too.
Hello, have you tried the tracker decon fg2? are they the same type of length? because I think they run a little bit more large aswel, should I go a size down like I went with the tracker decon? or this Motus has similar lenght like the decon?.
Depends how you train! Motus is better for cross-training and CrossFit. Both work great for lifting. Primus is better for casual wear due to better breathability!
I have those shoes - amazing, if you have the money, buy it, for me, the best CrossFit/GYM/work horse shoe ever (that is also barefoot) Really really good shoes!
Take 11 if you find that you're usually close to the end of your toe box. Think that would be a safe bet, but if you find you have a bunch of room, like a thumb's width, then sizing down would be my suggestion.
Thinking of buying these since they have an all white pair 🔥 will be my first pair but currently using a 10.5 in my metcon 7s, tight at first but broken in. Wondering if i should just jump up to the 11 since ill be wearing socks with them most of the time
I don’t own any pairs of barefoot shoes but I’m looking to buy some can’t decide between primus lite 3 and motus I wanted to ask which one has less spill over issue? Or is is the same
@@thatfitfriend thank you for answering my question is it a noticeable difference for the spillover and also which one has a more barefoot feel or is it the same?
I need help with sizing as well. I'm in the middle of 9 and a 9.5 US. 😒I am looking into buying the Motus strength and the primus lite three in women's. What sizes do you recommend for both?
Hi! Did you get them I’m looking to but the same but smaller. I used to be a size 38 EU and my feet grew but the new Geo courts in 39 EU are a bit too big, help!
Yes I did. I got the US 9 in both and they fit perfectly... I'm so glad I didn't size up. I actually did a Zumba class and step sculpt class today without any pain. I love them so far!@@Tptl2012
Just wonder whether Motus Strength is rigid enough. I currently wear Tribase Reign 4 and Overall it’s good. However, when I do Single Leg RDL with them, it feels really unstable just like standing on a pad while I’m totally fine doing the exercise with barefoot. So wondering if this Vivo shoes could really provide the benefit “barefoot like”.
@@thatfitfriend Thanks for the reply. Yes, I’d do like training with barefoot. It’s just in a commercial gym barefoot is usually not allowed. Otherwise, wouldn’t feel like paying $200 for the barefoot feeling.
I wished someone would try this for fast-paced sports like Basketball. It seems to be impossible to find any videos on barefoot shoes for such purposes.
@@thatfitfriendhey, if you like, we can have a chat about that. I would love to give you some input that may help to break into a niche that may not be all that small.
Primus lites are my first and only pair they are super long to the point where I don’t wear them but it is a year out of when I ordered them. I went down a size for these to hopefully get the tighter fit and support I was looking for in these shoes. Went from a long 10 primus to a 9 in these
Just got them in and a much better experience in barefoot shoes. The paper measure method they had on website is what told me to get a 10 for the last pair and I’m so glad I went with a nine on these. Fit perfect!
I feel like a UK 6 would be the call for these, too. However, I HATE trying to recommend sizing for Vivo shoes since they vary so much so please keep me posted on what you decide and end up with!
Shoe was super tight in comparison to the primus lite…I actually had to take my socks off mid day 😓 Hoping to power through and get them a little worn out.
Just used your code to pick up 2 pairs I picked up the all white motus strength, and the JJF motus strength, hurt the wallet but I like the look, I’m just super worried about durability
Sick, thank you for that! But for real, with the knit, I'd try reaching out. Typically Vivo is pretty good about honoring products that break down that fast. Keep me posted on how you like the Motus!
@@thatfitfriend haha they probably won’t honor anything now I already superglued them back together, good as new in my opinion, if anything i reinforced them
Speaking of new Xero shoes, think you'll do the HFS 2 as well? They mentioned they added a layer of "bare foam" to that one then decided not to share the thickness of the sole. Odd move for a barefoot shoe company.@@thatfitfriend
Got these in white and they are awesome. I actually really like their style as a pair of trainers for walking around town. I’ve had to take the insoles out which really made them super comfortable so I didn’t have that issue with breakin. Will prob put them back in the future but I’m really enjoying the ground contact without the insole
I don't mind their appearance that much either, tbh. They've def grown on me. My white primus have turned a shade of yellow fml. Btw, thanks for sharing, friends!
@@thatfitfriendoh man so are mine they look terrible now, I agree with you would love the motus tred on the primus lite. I’m rocking these atm sizing is my issue, but these are great training shoes
@@thatfitfriend Jsut got them in. They look and feel great but there are a few black dots that looks like cuts to then upper rubber part. I contacted them and send them a picture. Also there is a20% off promotion on their site now so I am trying to see if I can get my cost adjusted.
Thanks for the review. I'm 16 and have been struggling with heel and arch pain whenever I run in my Nike reacts or pegasus turbos (pain comes in at around 3km) and when I work for long durations. So, I recently decided to purchase the Hydra Esc Mens barefoot shoes and have found to have better results regarding the heel and arch pain i was getting before, although it's very difficult to run on concrete and i frequently get a tingling sensation in my toes when wearing the shoes. My feet are wider than usual (11in length, 5 in width) so the midshoe squeezes my pinky toe inwards, making it quite uncomfortable and perhaps contributing to the tingling sensation in my toes. I'm currently wearing a 44eu shoe but am thinking about buying a 45eu primus lite 3 for the extra width, also the shoe is less concealing as its more flexible, and i think the tread is more appropriate for road running. I'm skeptical in whether or not i should buy the 45eu shoes as the extra length may be too much for me, so i'm wondering if you have any recommendations to the shoe and sizing i should consider, thanks.
They're completely different types of shoes, brozer. Compared a Nano X4 to a barefoot shoe like this is like comparing apples to oranges. I hear you re: price, but very different intents with each shoe
@@thatfitfriend i guess i kinda lumped this a trainer. In that regards, as "barefoot" would tyr be a better alternative? Im waiting for them to drop the laced version of their zerodrop.
@@thatfitfriendI reached out to Vivo and they suggested a 12 due to wide foot. They are great shoes don’t get me wrong, I think I’ll stick to non barefoot for now. I do love my Nike Free Metcon 5 as a daily, and for lifting Nike Metcon 9. I was planning on getting the Nike Air Zoom TR 1 as a second daily but after watching your recent review I will pass lol. I also tried the Nike Air Max and those shoes are squeaky as heck so I did return them as well.
200 usd! That’s ridiculous. The shoes are great but they shouldn’t have such price tag. I just don’t understand why all these barefoot shoes are still so expensive 😢

For context, some songs can make me step about 300-400 steps per minute.
I'd go 42 in these, too, at least to start with. And unsure about unisex sizing - Vivo should really make that more clear (along with most companies).
Hello my friend,
This shoe seems to have a wider toe box at the forefoot than the Primus Lite.
I'd go 45 in these then!
Hey Jake! What vivo shoe do you recommend for just casual every day use?
Primus Lite Knit or Asana!
Thanks!
I have and they fit more "true" but I actually prefer a little more room for different types of socks. I would go 10 in the Primus Lite III!
@@thatfitfriend Great! My foot is a 9.5. And medium to wide. I was going to buy a size 10. I think it will be good. Thanks for the info.
I'd go 9 first! Vivo sizing can a massive pain, but I feel like the 9 here would be the safer bet
Feel like that would be a safe call in these, too!
Great video I was able to get the blue tint for $150 after shipping and taxes.
Heck yeah! Not bad. And thank you 🤝
I don’t even see the blue ones online!!
@cwr8618 There white with a black bottoms with blue and hits of pink. The shoe colo is called blue tinit.
do you use barefoot shoes only for certain activities? i know you review shoes. but you certainly prefer to use in some situations and others not.
I haven’t tried the 2, but I agree, they’re a smidge long as well. I’d go down in these/Tracker!
@@thatfitfriend thank you.
Hi Jake, I wore 37 for Primus lite knit. Do you think these both models have the same measure ?
Should be similar!
Hi, just wondering what the stack height is on this model? It looks a little thicker compared to the Primus Lite series?
Think it might be ~1ish mm thicker than the Primus due to its lugs but it's super similar and most won't notice it for the most aprt, imo
Im a size 10 US and fairly flat footed. What size do u recommend for this shoe and the primus knit? Thanks !!!
I’d stick with 10!
btw vivo just released these in a standard version that comes in all white!
I saw!! Sick
I understand, for someone who doesnt mind the $20-30 difference, are these a clear winner overall?
Depends how you train! Motus is better for cross-training and CrossFit. Both work great for lifting. Primus is better for casual wear due to better breathability!
I have those shoes - amazing, if you have the money, buy it, for me, the best CrossFit/GYM/work horse shoe ever (that is also barefoot)
Really really good shoes!
Love hearing that!
I never had vivobarefoot and I am interested in those motus strength but I am a 10.5 what should I take 11?
Take 11 if you find that you're usually close to the end of your toe box. Think that would be a safe bet, but if you find you have a bunch of room, like a thumb's width, then sizing down would be my suggestion.
Thinking of buying these since they have an all white pair 🔥 will be my first pair but currently using a 10.5 in my metcon 7s, tight at first but broken in. Wondering if i should just jump up to the 11 since ill be wearing socks with them most of the time
11 would prob be for you!
Which of the performance model shoes is the most flexible for running?
Primus Lite III or Lite Knit should suffice. Motus can work, but can lack breathability at times!
@@thatfitfriend Thanks
I don’t own any pairs of barefoot shoes but I’m looking to buy some can’t decide between primus lite 3 and motus I wanted to ask which one has less spill over issue? Or is is the same
Motus has less spillover, imo!
I'd go 9 for both!
thank you for your reply. I appreciate it. I'm definitely going to try the 9!@@thatfitfriend
@@Tptl2012 Sorry Im now seeing this. I got 9 for both. They both fit great!
My shoe size is US 11.5. What size do u recommend me buying? Thx!
Do you normally have a bunch of room at the end of your toe box or does the 11.5 fit pretty snug? What shoes do you normally wear?
Thank you. Do you have a video, or recommendation, for a barefoot shoe for running? Thx
I've been digging the Xero Shoes Zelen for that context!
It should. Will feel similar to training barefoot so if you already like training that way then you should be fine!
@@thatfitfriend Thanks for the reply. Yes, I’d do like training with barefoot. It’s just in a commercial gym barefoot is usually not allowed. Otherwise, wouldn’t feel like paying $200 for the barefoot feeling.
@@gabrielchiang2078 look into the Primus Lite III if you’re wanting to spend less for a Vivo!
I wished someone would try this for fast-paced sports like Basketball. It seems to be impossible to find any videos on barefoot shoes for such purposes.
Yeah, that's a super niche ask. I should have you be my liaison for that activity!
@@thatfitfriendhey, if you like, we can have a chat about that. I would love to give you some input that may help to break into a niche that may not be all that small.
i've been wearing skate shoes with a blown out part by the small toe - I think now my foot got wider - making narrow shoes a problem
really great review.
Thank you!
How is lateral movement? Like doing pro agility drills?
They’re solid
Primus lites are my first and only pair they are super long to the point where I don’t wear them but it is a year out of when I ordered them. I went down a size for these to hopefully get the tighter fit and support I was looking for in these shoes. Went from a long 10 primus to a 9 in these
Just got them in and a much better experience in barefoot shoes. The paper measure method they had on website is what told me to get a 10 for the last pair and I’m so glad I went with a nine on these. Fit perfect!
Im a size 10.5 in adidas im kinda having second thoughts if im gonna size up or size down on this model
How does that 10.5 fit you? How much room at the end of your toe box?
I wear a UK6 for the primus lite but wear UK7 for most brands (Nike, no bull etc), what size should I got for the motus?
I feel like a UK 6 would be the call for these, too. However, I HATE trying to recommend sizing for Vivo shoes since they vary so much so please keep me posted on what you decide and end up with!
Shoe was super tight in comparison to the primus lite…I actually had to take my socks off mid day 😓
Hoping to power through and get them a little worn out.
Yeah, wayyyyyy diff upper from a knit. It should loosen up tho
Shoe is nice and all but when I put it on it makes my foot want to under pronate like it’s caving i not sure if it’s just me
Is this your first barefoot shoe?
Just used your code to pick up 2 pairs
I picked up the all white motus strength, and the JJF motus strength, hurt the wallet but I like the look, I’m just super worried about durability
Sick, thank you for that! But for real, with the knit, I'd try reaching out. Typically Vivo is pretty good about honoring products that break down that fast.
Keep me posted on how you like the Motus!
@@thatfitfriend haha they probably won’t honor anything now I already superglued them back together, good as new in my opinion, if anything i reinforced them
@@curtisgaston2969 fair enough 😂
I’m a size 11.5 in regular nikes, should I go for an 11 or a 12 in these ?
I'd go 11 in these if you tend to have a bit of room in your 11.5s. If the 11.5 is snug, go 12.
barefoot shoes now should part ways with the label minimalist shoes by the trend which these barefoot shoes companies are going.
Do these fit any longer than the Trail Knit FG at all?
A tad shorter, imo!
Hey so I was wearing a 7/40eu on the primus lite 3 mens, what size do i wear for these?
I'd stay with the 7/40eu!

Speaking of new Xero shoes, think you'll do the HFS 2 as well? They mentioned they added a layer of "bare foam" to that one then decided not to share the thickness of the sole. Odd move for a barefoot shoe company.@@thatfitfriend
Do they have a similar fit to the Primus lite knit ?
For the most part, yes!

Worth a shot! Tough to say definitively though because Vivo sizing can be chaos. I'd start 44, then adjust accordingly
Got these in white and they are awesome. I actually really like their style as a pair of trainers for walking around town.
I’ve had to take the insoles out which really made them super comfortable so I didn’t have that issue with breakin. Will prob put them back in the future but I’m really enjoying the ground contact without the insole
curious how the white rubber color holds up and ability to clean, definitely white is my favorite colorway on my primus.
I don't mind their appearance that much either, tbh. They've def grown on me. My white primus have turned a shade of yellow fml.

Big facts!
They might run a tad long, honestly. Have you considered other brands like Xero Shoes and looked into models like the HFS/Zelen?
theyre $50 more than nano x4 though. Even more of a difference if you find a discounted nano x3.
They're completely different types of shoes, brozer. Compared a Nano X4 to a barefoot shoe like this is like comparing apples to oranges. I hear you re: price, but very different intents with each shoe
