As long as the aircraft's radar can't get a lock... those ranges won't really mean much
They don't need to be guided by the aircraft they are fired from. They can be directed by AWACS or from the ground or from a drone.
@@burlatsdemontaigne6147 But for terminal guidance the missile will need to use its own sensors, long range guiding isn't precise enough. The smaller radar dish in a missile will always have a much harder time locking onto a stealth aircraft.
It is all about the radar

The Russian-made R-37 missile has a range of 300 -400 km.
The KS -172 missile manufactured in Russia has a range of -400 -500 km.
'According to Russia' take it with a grain of salt.
@@the_beef4762 These are quite reasonable, as these are made to hit relatively slow moving targets like large transport, bomber or AEW&C aircraft. KS-172 is basically air launched Buk and are used only in 1-2 on largerst platforms ( e.g. MiG-31 ). There were tests that proved it ( at least for R-37 ) but this isn't as versatile and compact as R-77/AIM-120/Meteor/PL15.....

@@piotrd.4850 the thing is that Russia and USSR are famous for spreading bullshit. There are a lot of examples of them saying they have much more and much better things they actually have. Astra mk3 was first reported range of 350km by a british London based think tank.
Then drdo gave a number of 360km..
After some years & conducting multiple tests drdo revised the number to 340km for solid fuel ducted ramjet astra mk3 missile..
10th missile could have been astra mk2 which has 160km range..
Although i take this numbers with pinch of salt because astra mk1 successfully hit a target like size of shahid kamikaze jet powered drone at whooping 89km range...
Astra mk1 is stated to have 110km range. Missile have hit rate at very less range of there actual range..

@@Rahul_sharma... For you're knowledge aim120 had a 72kg motor which have it a range of 120km.
Now just think it this way that was a rocket motor meteor gives range around 220km with 190kg weights
Whereas astra mk3 which weights more 220kg has more fuel will give even longer range..
Just imagine a 72kg rocket which also has oxidizer gives this long range then a a air breathing missile which has increased 25-30kg fuel will give even better range. Than meteor.
And astra mk3 uses atmospheric oxygen so it does not carry oxidiser only fuel almost alot more than meteor.. so u can have an idea of its range.
Both have 178mm diameter. Astra is abit lengthy missile..
And Indian seeker electronics don't weight much different the aesa seeker showed in a exhibition displayed weight of some 13kg..
Fact is 178mm/180mm diameter missile have small electronics missiles like Russian r77 have 200 or 198mm diameter do not have much small electronics..

Bramos?
The Aim-54 range is a little bit longer but not as much as a newer missile on the list
I think you need to dig a little deeper into the AIM-260, the US wouldn't be developing a new BVR missile unless it was far more capable than the current US AIM120Ds and any adversaries. Most experts believe the AIM-260 will have a range of over 300km with faster top speed but also adjustable while on course. Basically, the new AIM-260 is only going to make sense because it will outperform anything any US enemy has at the moment or planned.
Thing is, AIM-260 was planned to enter service many years ago, then "late 2023", now it is 2024 and it is still not there.
Meanwhile the Meteor was introduced into European air forces in 2016.
So yeah..
USA has been lacking behind for quite some time and still hasn't introcued the AIM-260..
Remember the issue with with the AIM-9?
It was seen as underperforming really badly against the soviet equivalent, which was discovered in the 1990ies, with west Germany integrating the east German Air Force, and which caused the development of the IRIS-T.
USA seems to have a history of lacking behind on air to air missiles.
Funfact: many of this are never exist.
AIM-54 had the longest range of any western missiles. It has shot down a target drone from 212 km away. It also had a massive 60 kg warhead. The AIM-260 JATM will have similar range. Meteor is also a good western 200 km class missile.
The ones I was familiar with were the Sidewinders and the Sparrows; what are these you have -- especially the number one Monster? I ❤ it, though. Thank you for sharing this with us!

@chuckfarley4130 This Russian rocket (as all of others),is the best in the World,no doubt...Right example is war in the Ukraina .Russian military technic destroy NATO equipment as toys...
Meteor full range is also not disclosed by MBDA. It has longest no escape zone of any A2A missile of 60km.
True, and unlike the other claimed "ramjets" in this video, the Meteor actually has visible air scoops, oh yes and the ability to coast in mid flight then relight the engine for terminal guidance.
@@Paws4thot The R-77 has not a ramjet but a dual stage booster, for terminal guidance too
Doesn’t the MAR have direct correlation to the range?

2) The R 33s had in 1981 an O. Range of 120 km, in 1999 an O. Range of 160 km and in 2012 an O. Range of 305 km... So, the R 33s actually have an O. Range of 305 km, not 160, we are not in 1999.
3) I don't believe in the operational range of the Astra MK3, i have my doubts in this apart.
You said China is lying. May I ask what your basis is? Please provide authentic evidence. Do you own these missiles?
There is no statement about 120 km range for R-33 . On 18 August of 1993 was carried out a series of flying experiments on the interception of target at maximum range. In the course of the first of them the radio-controlled target, which flies at the height of 10.300 m with a velocity of 189 meters per second, was locked on by interceptor MiG-31 (flight altitude 8480 m, velocity - 669,3 meters per second) at the range if 319,5 kilometers the launch of rocket R-33 (successfully destroyed target) was carried out at the distance 228 kilometers. You should learn about test carried out on 21 April 1994 became the most effective flying experiment, which entirely demonstrated the possibility of aviation complex, on the simultaneous fire of four aerial targets.

Hi to the author !
Hm, one question only, what were your sources for all of that data/ info ,military or civilian ones ?
Some real data for you and others..... If you want to know some info about AAM, must know that launch weight, rocket engine's burn time ,flight profile of the AAM, then the so-called ''time of the aerodynamic stability and controllability'' are the most important factors for one AAM. Of course ,we have launch parameters like launch speed ( in fact ,the first speed of the AAM ) and launch altitude as also important. ''Longest range'' AAM in the World ? Let me write some details about that so-called ( in fact, wrongly named ) ''range''. It is not range but max authorised or by FCS as Fire Control System calculated launch distance. Launch distance against big/medium/small then non-maneuverable or highly maneuverable air target.Launch distance against incoming or receding air targets etc....AAM's launch parameters can be changed in sec....
In first place is a completely new Russian heavy, very long range hypersonic AAM type R-97 ( Product 810 ) for Su-57 only. With launch weight more than 700kgs and with real Vmax 8 Mach ( after acceleration phase) ,this AAM has the longest possible launch distance, well over 400 kms. On Aug 26 this AAM launched by Su-57 from a distance of over 200kms hit and shot down Ukr AF F-16AM ( pilot was KIA).
Second is also Russian heavy, very long range hypersonic AAM type R-37M ( Product 610M ) with launch weight of almost 600kgs and with real Vmax 6 Mach. With this AAM it is possible to engage some incoming air targets from a distance of 400kms. Keep in mind that MiG-31BM can launch this AAM from 22 kms of altitude with real speed Mach 2.8 ( 3000km/h ) ! Fighters Su-30SM2 and Su-35S can also carry this AAM. On Oct 12 2022 one UkrAF tact recce aircraft Su-24MR was hit and shot down by R-37M launched by MiG-31BM and launch distance was 217kms. On Dec 2023 one Ukr AF MiG-29 was shot down by an R-37M launched from MiG-31BM ,launch distance was 125kms. Then in July 2024 one Ukr AF MiG-29 was shot down by an R-37M whose launch distance was 213kms. R-37M was launched by Su-35S.
In third place is the Chinese heavy, very long range AAM type PL-17.This AAM is about 6m long and has about 500kgs launch weight. Max real V is 5 Mach. Max launch distance is in the range of 300-400kms.
In fourth place is the new USN 'converted' heavy very long range supersonic AAM type AIM-174B .This AAM has launch weight about 860kgs but it is supersonic ( not hypersonic like Russian R-37M and R-97 or Chinese PL-17 ) with real Vmax only 4 Mach. F/A-18E SH can only launch this AAM with its real Vmax of 1.5M at only 15kms of altitude . Max possible launch distance is about 300 kms. In comparison with R-37M e.g. , it is about 100kgs heavier and 1m longer but has 50% less Vmax ( 4M vs 6M ).
In fifth place are old Soviet heavy, very long range hypersonic AAM's R-33 and R-33S( as still operational on MiG-31BM). With the launch weights of about 500 and 520 kgs and with Vmax 5 Mach ,both AAM have a maximum launch distance of about 300kms. During one special test in 1985 where Tu-95MS strategic missile carrier acted like USAF strategic bomber/missiles carrier B-52H ( V=1000km/h, H=10kms ) over North Pole region was locked on and engaged ( was of course only simulation ) by R-33 AAM on one MiG-31 ( V=2500km/h ,H-21kms) from about 300kms of distance. In several tests and exercises during the 80's and 90's, R-33 and R-33S were launched from 200-250kms of distance against the real targets ( RC-aircraft , high flying supersonic missiles and drones).
In sixth place is USN heavy long range supersonic AAM type AIM-54A/C Phoenix. With launch weight about 450kgs and with real Vmax 4.5 Mach this AAM could engage air targets from a distance of max 250kms. Max launch distances ever recorded were 203kms by USN F-14A in June 1973 and 244kms by IRIAF's F-14A in Jan 1979 ,both on tests.
In seventh place is also new Russian 250kgs heavy long range hypersonic AAM type R-87 also known as Product 180 ( wrongly designated as K-77M ) and for Su-57 only .This AAM has constant ( cruise ) speed of Mach 5 because it has hypersonic ram-jet engine. Max launch distance is about 200kms.
Note: AAM type AIM-260 JATM is not operational in USAF and AAM type R-27EM does not exist in fact.
In eight place is the European MBDA Meteor as supersonic ram-jet powered AAM .With launch weight of 190kgs and max long range cruise speed of 4 Mach ,it has a max launch distance of 150kms. It is interesting to note that this AAM has max launch distance in the level of the 350kgs heavy Soviet AAM type R-27ER. 190kgs vs 350kgs but thanks to supersonic ram-jet and special flight profile it can achieve same launch distances as much heavier AAM like R-27ER.
In ninth place is the Japanese AAM-4B, which is very modern and capable. With a launch weight of about 220kgs and max real V of 4.5 Mach ,this AAM has a maximum launch distance in the range 100-150kms.
In tenth place are Russian AAM's type R-77-1 ( Product 170-1 ) and R-77-2 ( Product 171-1 and only for Su-57). Both AAM have launch weight about 200kgs and with max Vreal of 4.5-5 Mach have max launch distances 100-120kms. RuA&SF fighters Su-35S on several occasions engaged Ukr AF fighters MiG-29 and Su-27 with R-77-1 from a distance of about 100kms.
Now where are that US AIM-120D AMRAAM and that Indian Astra Mk1 ? They are in eleventh and twelfth place. But why? They are small and light AAM's with the same body diameter of only 178mm and with launch weight of only about 160kgs ! So how can one AIM-120D that has a body diameter of 178mm, launch weight of about 160 kgs and with length less than 4m have a maximum launch distance of 160/180 kms as wiki tell us ? Even if it is ''nuclear powered'' ,it can not have such a big launch distance. AMRAAM means ''Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missile'' not Long-range !
AIM-120D e.g. has a dual-pulse engine, yes, it is right ,but what is the weight of the solid rocket fuel to reach that big launch distance? Then in March 2021 happened this ( citation ): ''An F-15C Eagle fighter jet destroyed a target drone last month in the U.S. Air Force describes it as “the longest known air-to-air missile shot to date.” Exactly how far away the fighter was from its target when it fired the radar-guided AIM-120 AMRAAM missile has not been disclosed, but the test is a clear signal that the Air Force is making very long-range aerial engagements a priority.'' Next citation from the same article : ''An F-15C recorded the longest known air-to-air missile shot, firing an AIM-120 AMRAAM at a BQM-167 last month. Release doesn't say how long it was. So, China and Russia will have to guess, I suppose'' Next : ''While official performance figures are classified, it is generally assumed to be able to hit targets at a distance of between 75 and 100 miles. ''
There is no way that AIM-120D can have a maximum launch distance of 160kms and my military source told me that AIM-120D was in fact launched in March 2021 from about 100kms away from the incoming target/drone. And in the end ,USAF planned to order several thousands of European MBDA Meteor . Why would they say that the AIM-120D has a max launch distance of 160 or 180 kms, whatever and Meteor has 150kms. Because AIM-120D certainly and simply has not so big launch distance as they used to mention.USAF at the end did not order Meteor because they waited for that AIM-260 JATM. Many sources state that the max launch distance of that AIM-260 will be about 200kms. 200kms ? And AIM-120D has 160 or 180kms ,so what progress is that?
All mentioned values are for engaging big non-maneuvering air targets ,keep that in mind. For the real end, the largest ever recorded launch distance was achieved in April 1994 when prototype MiG-31M ( number 057 blue) launched 6 test AAM's type K-37 ( Product 610 ) on 6 differ targets where one of them was launched from record-breaking distance of 304kms and hit/shot down its given target.

Those Russain air air missiles are not performing as advertised in Ukraine
The long range ones have done nicely. Russia sorted out the ability for other systems to guide the missile compared to the plane that fired it. They did a similar thing with the S400 missiles. The Russians are always thinking and changing things, that is one thing the Ukraine war has shown. The other is Russia does not fight wars like the west or Israel, Israel killed more children in two weeks than Russia has killed as civilians in over 2 years. Or less than civilians by drone strikes by USA in other countries USA is not at war with.

Aim 120
Range is irrelevant, the most important is the no escape zone.
NEZ: These tend to be low to very low range from what I read (speculations online, all the real data is obviously classified).
4th Gen aircraft will not even spot a top stealth fighter like the F-22 or F-35 in time.
One of the shortest range ones here could thus be the best missile…however my $ is on the AIM-260.
Range is important, but what is more important is the range of the No-Escape Zone.
The great part about the AIM-260 is that it's going to have a throttleable Solid Fuel Rocket Motor on it... which allows it to either just do a full burn to the target or throttle it back to conserve fuel and extend its range.
Combine this with pretty much the best electronics and guidance systems out of any missiles on this list... its going to pretty much be the best at distance and closer ranges. the Russian missiles are pretty much only good for large slow moving aircraft. (AWACS, Bombers etc.)
By the way, the AIM-260 is one of half a dozen missile programs being worked on...its just the closest to service.
We also have the Peregrine, which has the same range as the AIM-120D but only half the size... which allows double the normal amount to be carried. SPAMRAAM type shit.
R37 💪
Very disappointing if the AIM-260 range is only 200km
200 is also enough . during engagement only no escape zone do matters. all the details about missiles are absurd in the video.
AIM-120D can already reach 180km. Then their is the latest iteration AIM-120D3. Then AIM-260. Doubtful if its 200km. But for stealth a longer range is not a problem. It can just get in close enough as no fighter radar can detect 5th gen stealth at beyond visual range. Even if its radar is as strong as an AWACS, it will only be able to detect F-35 at a 100km or so.

i say : "in real war condition" AWACS will be the first target, long range missiles work in peace time conditions versus a target drone but the facts and the optimistic tests are not the same things
Where you heard in this video about "hit" "war" and so on?
There are just numbers of longest potential range.
If somebody tries to compare all aspects it will be 10 hours video of speculation because of only real war with friendly information exchange can show the truth but it is impossible fantasy.
INDIAN ASTRA MK3 has the latest technology in this line up….and the fastest 5 mach…
My money on PL17电线杆
ASTRA MK3 still under testing, not in service yet.

Meteor is French or USA?
French
Multi national European Sweden France Germany and England MDBA.
Its standard Missile to Jas 39 Gripen. (The first nation to have them in active service was Sweden.)
The only missile on the list in active deployment that has the most advanced targeting system that works in highly ECM contested environments.
we have also modified the Finish F 35 to carry the missile in the end of 2024 that will including England that will follow be the only F 35 that will be able to carry them in their Modified weapons bays .
The rest of European F35 users will most likely follow in the future.
(What people dont realize these missiles are quite large they need to fit eternal weapons bays.)

@@Sumitpande-fc4rs body and warhead was developed by Sweden
read on wiki :
Forebody
The active radar proximity fuze subsystem (PFS) is provided by Saab Bofors Dynamics (SBD). The PFS detects the target and calculates the optimum time to detonate the warhead in order to achieve the maximum lethal effect.[58] The PFS has four antennae, arranged symmetrically around the forebody. The Impact Sensor is fitted inside the PFS. Behind the PFS is a section containing thermal batteries, provided by ASB, the AC Power Supply Unit, and the Power and Signal Distribution Unit. In August 2003 SBD received a contract worth SEK 450 million to develop the PFS.[58]
here is something that is not on wiki
MBDA was founded 2001 to allow nations outside NATO to collaborate and upgrade weapons programs
Mainly Sweden Finland South Korea and Japan.
that's why for example the K2 tank will be Poland's new main battle tank.
NATO nations wasn't allowed to purchase systems outside NATO before 2001
(combability issues )
@@tony18662Just England? Whatever happened to Scotland, Wales and Norn Island? UK is a better term, for the moment at least. ❤
USA just successfully tested a live AGM-183A Air-Launched Rapid Response Weapon, or ARRW. It travels 1,600 km.
Just launched 😂😂😂it's been there for years 😂😂😂
Эту программу уже закрыли) эта ракета ни разу не пролетела более 400 км
It is a air to ground missle
You're right but I don't think the 183A is considered an AAM
Completely different thing. Not related to AA
First
Congrats
Between all of this freeks only Aim-120 and Meteor really exist))
R37M?
PL-15?
Actually, the AIM-54 Phoenix really exists, too. Its just not in use anymore since the only aircraft capable using it was retired in 2006.
No, they all exist. Some are still in testing and some of the Russian and Chinese claims about range are doubtful
@drgonzo305 keep underestimating your opponents
R 33M 228 km
hats off from india for typing error /// 350km/3.5m and astra range might be above 300km in ur dreams but its officially its around 120km . So no need for the over hype range.
Teri jali naaa 😂😂😂😂
Uninformed people like you make comments like these.Astra mk1 which is already inducted has range of 110 km,astra mk2 around 160-200 km finale test being done, and astra mk3 with range of 300-350 kms for awacs sized targets has also been tested.Pls get some info before commenting not just comment anything because of jealousy.

Acha bro mk 3 enroll hogya . Mei toh update hu hi nhi mujhe laga bas mk 1 enroll hua hai jiska sayad 120 paper range tha. Koina 350 wala bhi 4-5 saal mei enroll + mass produce ho jayega
Bruh even Astra mark 2 offical range is over 150 km and it's well know that astra mark 3 will going to have 350 approx km range , it's going to at same category of Metor missile of European weapon system, and no one is hyping it's just facts, u r the only one having anxiety attack here , go watch ur anime weeb
KS 172 is missing here
It never made it into production, and is more of phantomware than an AAM.
Astra range 3.5 miles?
Latest AIM 120D3 range is 180km
Not it is official stated to have 160km even I have heard of 153km by some officials of rtx aka raytheon
If you read at f-16()net forums, their are simulations where AIM-120D can reach even further. Replace () with a dot.
Lol china missile 400km haha their radar also can't track so far, how the missile can shoot so far, joke

The Storm Shadow from the UK is known to travel.
Its air to ground...
Not so fast yet Britain
😂

Congratulations
😂😂😂😂😂
Lol😂
Guys, the Russians are making the most advanced missiles
Yes, we do
Yes russia is the only country who uses lamps in their missiles, most of the world gave that up about 80 years ago but not russia… most advanced NOT
Wow, obviously hasn't been keeping up with the news or is really mentally deficient. Their most advanced missile was shot down last month by a Ukrainian patriot battery and it wasn't going mach 6.

Its strange the Top 5 missiles are all not from USA.
The US has not invested in this capability for a very long time.
A longer range missile is currently in development, but isn't ready yet.
Because this list is stupid and wrong.
Be assured that only Meteor and AIM are really effective.
It’s been a long time since China overtook us in Missile. And soon radar. I’m not a CCP bot, like some TikTok kids would say. I’m just being realistic, trying to get people to realize how dangerous it is and get our asses to work
@@elsenm3965 really? I would keep an eye on the Chinese missiles. All the Chinese jokes aside they achieved everything they said they will
You don't seem to understand propaganda do you.
Meteor is the best one. The list is bs.
Nah the US has better. We just don't know it
lol. Cope
The US will get better stuff soon. Just still in development.

Latest AIM 120D3 range is 180km
Can you show a link to a valid, authoritative source? I don’t think so…
@@frankcessna7345 The AIM-120D is an upgraded version of the AMRAAM with improvements in almost all areas, including 50% greater range (than the already-extended range AIM-120C-7) and better guidance over its entire flight envelope yielding an improved kill probability (Pk). Initial production began in 2006 under the Engineering and Manufacturing Development phase of program testing and ceased in September 2009.[38] Raytheon began testing the D model on August 5, 2008, the company reported that an AIM-120D launched from an F/A-18F Super Hornet passed within lethal distance of a QF-4 target drone at the White Sands Missile Range.[39] The range of the AIM-120D is classified, but is thought to extend to about 100 miles (160 km) or potentially up to 112 miles (180 km).[40]
Source:en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AIM-120_AMRAAM
@frankcessna7345 The actual range is classified, and the only thing the U.S. said about the test is that it achieved the longest range air to air kill on a drone target.
