He's still incredible, however, he's dodging the chorus completely and some higher tones here and there. Still a great performance considering his age and the amount of touring these guys do
@@xanderguldie He's not singing the first half of the chorus, which is the smart move to do here. He's avoiding straining and tiring out his voice and gets to rest it and prepare for a stronger delivery on the second half. Besides he got an amazing backing vocal band with him there is no need for him to sing in the first half as the backing vocals are covering the really high vocals too. Why expend yourself unnecessarily when you need the voice to be intact for the rest of the gig?
@SAJ Music & Production First of all, it wasn't criticism. As you explained, he's looking out for his voice, which was damaged, and it took a long time for him to recover. I just wanted to point out that although he's still incredible, he can't sing as he used to be. Nor should people expect him to.

This song didn't make it in the U.S in 1987/88 because at the time Totos popularity was declining , though the songs were good "Isolation" their first album after TOTO IV flopped, and people need to be honest, a record that sold massive and garnered 6 to 8 grammys like TOTO IV and add the departure of Kimballs voice (I know how and why he was fired) It would be difficult to damn near impossible to repeat that success again, especially with a change in personnel. The Eagles were under pressure to duplicate that success following "Hotel California" with the "Long Run" and "Heart ache tonight" their fastest song to get to no.1 and the pressure to repeat still broke the band up in 1980 till 1995 "When hell freezes over" the very words they said about ever regrouping after the break up. Lukather should be grateful to still have an audience.
One of the rare bands that still perform on their original key - and still deliver big time! I'm only 29 years old but I grew up with TOTO songs after playing Vice City and this brings a tear to my eye hearing Joseph and Steve perform like they've never aged! Amazing!

Love that Joe and Steve are keeping live Toto going. Shame that David Paich and Steve Porcaro can’t be with them, but the musicians they have filling out the band are awesome.
With all due respect to Joseph Williams and other vocalists, I enjoyed listening Africa from Bobby Kimball more than anyone else. TOTO is the Master Class...
YES!!! I'm not familiar with Robert, but he had some seriously big shoes to fill, and he totally held his own. Nothing but respect! He deserves a ton of credit for this!
I was introduced to Joe on star search in the days before Fergie Ferguson joined Toto and after the 1st Kimbell exodus. We were fans back then. In later years, I learned why Joe was outside the band and the infamous Past to Present experiment had occurred. The fact that his voice was I tatters from drugs and oversinging, he did what he needed to and got that amazing instrument back. Google 35th anniversary live, Joe was in peak form over the next 5 years. He earned the right to succeed Bobby Kimbell the 2nd time. This is why Joe remains one of my vocal heroes to this day. What a hidden Gem for US Toto fans: one of my favorites. Performed impeccably some 30 years later! Who does this? That voice has not, yet, seen better days. Keep belting out memories!
It is a real shame that this song wasn't released as a single here in America.
