Another interesting thing I was reminded of this week was the proposed Islamophobia legislation in the UK. From what I have read it explicitly makes 'Muslimness' a racial identity, and defines 'immoderate' criticism of Islamic religious belief as racism. This seems like giving the connection between race ideas and religious ideas a legal status, there could be some interesting developments from this if it is passed into law.
The 'Noeud democratique' book seems to lend itself better to translation, it's more compact and a more concise presentation of Gauchet's making ideas (it would go well with the translation of 'Disenchantment of the world'). I found the section which starts on p. 39 and runs to p.71 especially interesting, where Gauchet gives a concentrated summary of his views on the religio-political order, its origins and how it broke down. I thought this could be useful to someone like AA, as an alternative to his cyclical history idea and relying on Evola, Gauchet provides a different and I think stronger account of the deep origins of traditionalism and how it is related to conservatism.
