Imma be honest, to this day I only watched your videos and never really listened to your music, all because I didn't like getting out of my usual comfort zone of artists I already listen to. but man, was I missing out. this is really really good. I especially like your vocal style.

I know everyone is different and I totally respect it, however I cannot understand the mindset of only listening to the artists you already know. Human beings, experiences and cultures are all so different. And that shows through in music so amazingly. Les claypool is the ONLY person to create the music for Primus. Biggie is the ONLY person to flow with as much specific Charisma as he had. Daft punk were the ONLY artists capable of creating their specific brand of intimately layered dance music. It’s the discovery of unique souls that’s the most fun thing about music in general. I feel like you should try and really branch out homie✌️✌️

RUclips jokster and singer/songwriter, Kyle Alexander Reid, strikes a balance of intense ambition and accessibility on his sixth full length release. From the fifth floor provides an intensely large creative pallet in comparison to his earlier work (take 2017s strictly indie rock in pieces). Instead of falling into one category, kyle cohesively mushes a dozen or so genres into one 10 track 50 minute release, while still making it a relatively easy on the ears listen.
On the opener, “The Parking Lot Kids”, Kyle delivers poignant lyricism that gives a good description of the subject matter presented on the record. He speaks on him moving to Portland (which is where I live), in September of 2020 for college. The entire record is based on his experiences in Portland over the year and some change that he lived there. Its a vague and uninteresting concept at first glance, but Kyle’s lyricism and storytelling gives the concept a very human atmosphere.
Kyle keeps this concept heavy in mind on “Halloween or Something”. The chunky car seat headrest guitars and drums, mixed with Kyle eerie vocals and lyricism combines into an immensely interesting listen. I must say, however, I find the vocals on this track to be slightly intolerable. Kyles almost halloween esc vocals (get it) make the track relatively annoying. For example, one of the sonic highlights on the record appears on this track. The instrumental breaks down and turns into this beautiful wall of sound, but its over the most ANNOYING woaaahhhs on earth. It distracts from how brilliant the instrumental is and knocks points of the track. That being said, the ending turns Kyles vocals into a part of the wall of sound, and its a brilliant ending.
The records consistency and accessibility is at a high point towards the middle of the record, weather that be the post punk mayhem of big beautiful dance, the female vocals and hypnotizing samples on New Light, or the surprisingly tuneful vocals and alt rock instrumentation on Skater People. Kyles lyricism is so specific and reliant on very oddball phrases, that its almost haunting. For example, the “I am afraid to dance, its the only thing I haven’t done yet”, line on big beautiful dance is said so eerily thats its almost disturbing
The longer tracks on here are occasionally harder to swallow. This record is immensely sample based. The problem is, when the sample is something you don’t love, it makes the longer tracks a struggle to get through. For example, the last track, while greats, drags on 2 minutes longer than it should, and because its the last track I cant fall into it.
Wow, not bad. Safe to say kyle has made his mark on RUclipsr music, cause this is one of the best records made by a RUclipsr yet. Its spotty and occasionally jarring but god damn he really put effort into this. The subtler cuts on the record really leave an impact on me. Some of these tracks really blew me away. Keep it up kyle
    80/100

I feel like I've been in this position before. I was getting out of high school, and I had a 4-track. I played guitar, I owned a bass and a drum machine, and I had a clutch of effects pedals. I wrote an entire album, blending influences and styles, and going out of my way to write songs outside of convention. I experimented, played/fucked around and came up with songs I was happy with at the time. I think you're drawing on what I consider better influences, and you have much better tech to bring your thoughts to reality. Lots of potential here, and I hope you keep going.

Actually I wasn’t but there’s been a lot of people saying that it sounds like I was which was interesting. I had the idea for the album about a year ago when I started recording it. I wanted to make an album based on my experiences living in Portland from mid 2020 to early 2022. I didn't really have anything figured out going into the recording process. It all just kind of fell into place as I worked on it
