I really loved this season. It had the right amount of funny and serious, and House really grew as a character throughout the season. He went from jerk with bottled up problems to a jerk with a jerk willing to help and open up to others. I seriously didn't like that they rolled back his character to mischievous jerk in season 7, less so because of the way it ended, back to plain jerk.
OK first of all he didn't end up going back to full jerk in the end, he sacrificed everything for wilson. Second & most importantly is that the fact that his growth arcs are mostly in ssn 6 & 8 (last half) and are all heavily tied to Wilson just proves that when he was at his best it was because of Wilson & that he brought out the best in House, unlike with cuddy who brought out the worst in him as shown in ssn 7. Not that any one character was responsible for his growth, that just seems to happen to be the case so it is what it is.

That being said, please abstain from experimenting with hydroflouric acid and oven cleaners ;-D
