How refreshing - no vocal gymnastics - no hot dogging - just plain, straight forward focus on the message, not the messenger! One class act!!!
This is my favorite rendition of "The Star Spangled Banner". You can tell by the look on his face before he started singing that he understood the importance of singing the national anthem properly.

I remember when Meatloaf did this performance. Everyone thought it was a joke that he was chosen to do the anthem. Well those
folks where proven wrong, he did a stunning job. The fans started cheering before the song even ended.
That might be the best I've ever heard it sang, so many singers drag it out, slow it down, and change the time signature. This, this, was the way it was written, and it was great

Meatloaf was a theatrical singer and it shows every time he performed. You didn't need subtitles to understand the words. We all know your love for Elvis and although they were different in style and music type they both commanded attention while performing. Two great voices and performers.

FWIW, I once saw the singing of the National Anthem come to an abrupt halt at one of my kid’s high school soccer games. A big bolt of lightening hit not too far behind the young lady who was singing. Scared the bejesuz of of everyone there.

Well said.. he was a one-off! TRULY talented! Unique and had great range and power in his delivery! I think the techs messed up and didn't anticipate the power of his voice! Plus probably had a speaker too close to him and the mic! But just a guess..

I’m not sure if this is still the case, but I’ve heard many artists describe the difficulty singing the national anthem at a sports stadium. Something about the audio systems they use (or used) have a slight delay, so it sounds like an echo and can easily throw off your timing.

Yeah you seem to get an echo when you do in a stadium like that I've heard the same thing with other artists before and they were in stadiums to and plus now there's better equipment you don't hear it as much anymore

no Meatloaf had heavy delay on x2 cycle so the last word repeats twice we lost him for a bit in all that delay lol, plus the stadium natural echo and reverb added ti it, ive been known to hide "mistakes" with echo and delay I bet Meat was freaking out before the anthem put it on to cslm him down? just a theory😂 still got me in rhe feels🇺🇲😭❤️

The echo is just part of singing in a stadium. It takes a lot of concentration for the singer, else get lost in the sound!
I am a patriotic Vietnam veteran, but can we give all the hoopla over someone singing the national anthem a rest? Sure, it should be sung at sporting events etc. But why all the fuss.
For this performance it's a matter of the anthem being sung without all the vocal runs and tricks. Just someone with a great voice singing in a manner where you can understand the words and done with respect. To many singers and celebrities use the platform to promote themselves instead of honoring the anthem.
I am kind of laughing because the video title says what is being sung. You can always pass these videos by and it won’t bother you so much.
