I’m sorry but I don’t consider £139 for one sweater ‘Affordable’ to myself or any woman that I know, even with 15% discount. I love your styling ideas though.

There is a new concept about having fewer but higher quality clothing pieces. This trend is to purchase fewer more expensive items and slow down on purchasing fast fashion which is always cheaper. I'm somewhere in the middle. It is also much more eco friendly to have fewer clothes. I agree with this but find it very hard. I'm really paying more attention to quality. I would love to own that beautiful gray sweater. I like sales a lot. I may take advantage of Deidre's discount to get that sweater. ( I refuse to purchase polyester anything)

I thank you Christine for your welcomed comment most probably noted from my short feedback.
I love, where most winters can be below 30 degrees below and must admit the heating bills are high.
I happen to foster many animals
And thus keep living and snoring spaces warm.
So, warm sweaters are My way of life.
And sometimes under it , kept isolated
An animal will make it through.
Sometimes, there are choices to be made, I have done many.
But a strife in me exists.
And my old faithful cashmere sweater is still with me 45 years later.
      Very appreciated,

Thank you for this and all of your fabulous videos! I always enjoy them so much! I guess I’m an oddball because I prefer a v-neck because it looks more flattering on me. True that the crew neck is warmer -I only rarely wear a turtle neck or mock turtle neck because they make me look like my head is sitting on my shoulders 😅. …and no silk scarves around the neck. These are beautiful outfit and accessory ideas as always-a bit too expensive for me unfortunately using your links but understand that more expensive and /or quality clothes are usually better looking and theoretically hold up better over time. You get what you pay for, as the old saying goes!

    • @wendygreig4659

I agree that V beck sweaters are much more flattering particularly if you have broad shoulders as I have! I don’t understand why crew necks are so popular.

Hi Deirdre another great video 🤩Although I have to disagree a bit about favourite sweater necks as my favourite is the V neck, so much so I used to get my mum to knit me V neck arran ones, and I still have a couple that I still wear. As I am a triangle with heavy bust, wide shoulders and no waist (short body long legs), I find crew necks up near the neck tend to make me look enormous! That said I do love a cardigan best ...Soooo snuggly and at nearly 5 foot 8 I can get away with the longer length ones for extra snug ability.

Sadly I can’t wear any type of natural wool but will look out for man made fibres in these styles. I have those flat damson shoes from m and s and I love them..lived and died in the same style shoes in orange this summer ….so comfy. Thanks again Deirdre and Chanel for another great video. 🌸

I just moved my woolies out of winter storage, gave them a steaming and airing, then moved them into my main closet for the season. It’s still too warm for them here in Northern California, but it should cool down by mid-November. I’m longing to wear my autumn things like wool blazers, quilted or lady jackets, leather boots and cashmere skirts, dresses and sweaters. Summer seems to last forever here, which our British and other European residents love, but I like the change of seasons. Because San Francisco is such a tech hub, we have many UK/Euro friends here, we love them. We ❤ you, too, Deirdre, so chic and yet not at all preachy or condescending, just a classy, sweet personality. I would love it if you could recommend any brands on your side of The Pond that use natural-fiber fabrics, it’s nearly impossible to find them at US brands, Banana Republic is the only notable exception. I’ve had to replace my wardrobe this year and BR has got most of my business. Low prices are not important to me, only quality is, thank you for anything you can do on this. (No brand affiliations).

Hi Kimberly. What a great message, thank you! I love how you share all your sartorial experiences, they really enrich our community here.
Thank you so much for your kind words about me too. I love all of you ladies.
You may have noticed that my husband and I were in San Francisco for a couple of days in June this year. What a pity that we didn't meet up. I'd love to meet you.
For natural fabric brands in the UK and Europe, I would definitely recommend Boden. They ship to the US too and have mainly natural fabrics, although some items are blends. They are real quality though.
Other brands as well as Boden that come to mind (not affiliated with any of them, just genuine recommendations) are: Poetry, Sezane, Beaufort and Blake, Holland Cooper - and there are lots of others too! They're not cheap but they are quality.
      Hope this helps. XX

I’m petite and I love a “cropped” sweater. These just cover my (high) waistband, which is so much more flattering than those outdated tunic-length ones. If available, I order petites, but that’s often not enough. I lose all my shape in a long sweater.

Hi Deidre, love your videos, I love sweaters however, since I live in Orlando Florida, we get very few chances to truly wear them. I prefer cashmere with cotton blends, I try to buy quality over quantity, love neutral colors, I am busty so I prefer v necks. Love the gray sweater, classy!

Thank you Deidre, this was so useful - just what I have been pondering on this week (and some lovely styling tips). V-necks and half-zips are best for me, but it has to be cotton as even a hint of wool is too itchy. Ps. I hope that you, and sweetheart Chanel, were not troubled too much by storm Ciaran last week in your spot on the south coast. xx

I am new to your channel and I love your videos. But I have one suggestion. 50% of women at age 50 are going through menopause and when they turn 55-56, 100% of them are in menopause. It is simply impossible to put on sweaters or turtle necks when you are hot and sweaty. Can you make a video on layering and how to be elegant but at the same time to avoid sweating in these hot sweaters? Thank you.

    • @50FabulouswithMyFriendDeirdre
      @50FabulouswithMyFriendDeirdre  10 месяцев назад

HI there and a big welcome to my channel. I totally agree with you about the menopause and issues that we all have. One way I deal with hot sweaters is to put a cotton t shirt underneath them which is breathable and keeps the wool away from the skin, whilst being warm. I don't know if you have seen my video on layering which you may find helpful: ruclips.net/video/OYqI1RkH8Dc/видео.html

Hi Diedre. Loved all the outfits you put together. I couldn't afford the Lillysilk pieces, but could try to recreate something from M and S maybe. I'm going on a cruise in 7 weeks to Norway, but unfortunately just had a hip replacement, the timings aren't good, but just wondered if you could do a video with how to style more relaxed type if trousers for casual wear as jeans and tight trousers would be out for me for a while.

Ask anyone who knows me (or even if they don't!) - am usually in a turtleneck style especially in fall through to spring - haha. I love sweaters and have knit many for myself over the years ranging from vests to cardigans to turtlenecks. (the next project I'd like to make a cardigan that can be worn backwards if desired). And yes, the fiber content of the yarn will help predict how well it holds its shape and how long it lasts with the proper care. So your presentation today was most enjoyable for many reasons! thank you.

Aaah the Gaspard (indeed your first pronunciation is the correct one) it’s such a soft, beautiful and versatile item. I adore this one and have it in 4 shades (beige, washed jeans, soft grey and kind of spruce green) and don’t know if I’ll stop there😅. Bought to be a cardi I find myself wearing them backwards most of the time. Love them and recommend them highly. Although being French they size quite big I think. Something to be aware of when buying online. Would suggest to go to the smaller size when in doubt.

I find that so many people advise staying away from crewneck styles if one is larger-busted but no one ever mentions the length of one's neck or torso. I have a larger bust, but I also have a long neck, as well as a short torso. If I wear a v-neck, I'm nothing but breasts from neckline to waist, wheres if I wear a crewneck, it gives my torso more length and makes my neck look more proportional.

Hi Rose. Yes, it all depends on each person's individual body shape.

I have a larger bust too. I find with v necks and crews it all depends on the shape, and width of the neckline. Some v necks are fine but others aren’t. Some crews are fine but others aren’t. It’s all about trial and error for me. Also, I find if I add a pop of white it helps.

I support Deidre, because 50 years ago in Wall Street, a really little poor unsupported grad made it because of
Full match pants, grey, black, navy.
The huge masculine world was indeed the master.

I just want to say how much I've enjoyed your own evolution over time - you look GREAT! While I now get to winter in a sub-tropical location and cannot wear your 'sweaters', I wish I could - and the silk trousers!!! Cheers.

My favourite outfits on you were 2,3 & 4. The zip sweater really suits your figure, and you have given me an idea I would never have considered. The silk trousers and belt were lovely, too. The whole outfit suits your colouring. Loved the red shoes and cardigan with the jeans. Looked girlie. Outfit 4 looked great too. The skirt definitely made you look taller and the skirt and jumper suited your colouring. Love monochrome looks. They really do work giving a slimming, elongated look. Thanks for your video.

I don’t like crew-necks, they are not as flattering as V-necks or other more vertical necklines on petite, but busty, me. Mostly, though, it’s a practical thing, if I put a coat, jacket or sweater over a crew-neck top or sweater, the weight pulls the crewneck up too high in the front, making me feel a bit strangled. I was constantly pulling them down and away from my neck, then finally stopped buying these when I realized the problem. Even trouser fabric can do this with long sweaters or tops. My favorite-ever sweater style is the (US) Polo style, which has an open V-neck with a pointed “shirt” collar (I know “Polo” can refer to turtleneck styles in the UK). These really are flattering and classic, I searched for them for years and they’re finally widely available again. I love Banana Republic’s cashmere ones, they’re quite short and they come in petites and lots of beautiful colors. Quince makes nice ones, too, but they don’t offer lighter colors, yet. Thank you for saying sweaters for us Americans, but this American Anglophile has picked up your British usage of “jumpers”, I’m very suggestible! All pants are “trousers” to me for years, now.🙂

Great selections in this video!! I always gravitate to V-neck sweaters, but for some reason, crew necks look more "modern" this year which is kind of ironic. Loved the "chocolate" pieces and the shoes too. Just purchased an oversized navy cashmere turtleneck that I think I will wear a lot this winter.

Lovely knits ❤. Unfortunately I can’t wear wool of any kind as it makes me itch so have to stick to less luxurious fabrics, which is a shame as cashmere and merino wool have a very lux look.
