1:10 on the emotional value. You know I love that. While we’re familiar with the negative presentations it’s also the beautiful opportunity in the hobby. An outlet for us to feel and learn how we feel.

That gas works site looks fascinating. It would be fun to work up some layout designs inspired by it.

Huddersfield is my home town. They have recently announced the demolition of the gasworks so it won't be there much longer!
The North Eastern Gas Board ran the gas works railway. They had an Andrew Barcley 0-4-0 saddle tank. If anyone is interested there are 4 great pictures of this railway in a book called 'railway memories No.13' Huddersfield, Dewsbury and Batley by Robert Anderson. It would make a great model railway.

I've just discovered the Alder Street coal drops too. There's another great subject for a little layout.

Huddersfeld Gasworks looks very cool. I’ve a dapol LBSCR 7mm terrier and too many coaches, and I want to depict a scene in London with a brightly lit station at night, full of life, with a radiant gasworks display building adjacent, in almost bas relief, a single siding in front opening to the right to a car lift, which goes down to a second, basement, dark and foreboding level, where the business of the gasworks takes place, amidst the squalor of, say Spital Fields, pale people on the ground and standing under a bridge on a bitter, damp night in December 1888. Two level layout, shelf mounted in from 6’-8’ length and 18” wide. I’m fascinated by the lack of context in layouts and remember that the institutions we represent lived beside and did ill as well as good. We don’t really want those worlds again. I’m attracted too by the art of layouts, wanting to really tell a story, using lighting, color, and arrangement very much.
I’m imagining a version of Heddersfeld set in 1890s southeastern PA, in American n-scale or possibly HO. Wondering what to do with a prewar, PRR B6sb 0-6-0 (Rapido 2025 release).
You seem to have a real fond affection for your trains; please be encouraged, there’ll be another train when it comes. I’m looking forward to more images of that fantastic graffitied coil car! Be well and dream on.

Georeferenced maps are an excellent web site for railway planning.
Now that Rapido trains have produced a Andrew Barclay Caledonia 0-4-0 in OO gauge I am tempted to model a gas works. I wish they would make the engine in O gauge.
