The Matrix was suppose to use people's brainpower to increase the computer processing power, but the bosses thought people wouldn't get it so changed it to people being batteries.
@@apophis40123 Cause the original Matrix came out in 1999, at best that means development had to have started around 96 or 97 right around the start of the internet boom. Computers around that time were still fairly niche and not everyone had one nor understood em well, for a good example of that just honestly ask ur, parents or grandparents, what a GPU or CPU is and you'll get a good understanding WHY it was changed. It was a bit a head of it's time tbh, if they had waited maybe 5 or 6 years then there could have been a better argument for keeping it as processing power. But at the time batteries is a better explanation, everyone knows what a batter is what it does, even back then.
In the first movie humans were suppose to be RAM and that's why they needed brain power, but the network said that people wouldn't understand and they should dumb it down, so: batteries. Which, like you said, defeated the purpose of a Matrix
It also makes more sense. The brain has a pretty impressive amount of computing power. A hive mind of a billion brains in unison would be pretty daunting. As batteries...we are rather unimpressive. Not like we *don't* use electricity in our systems that is generated by biological processes...but not particularly efficiently if you're looking for a battery.
Perhaps. Hard to say what the reaction would have been. I think the science would have held up better and I think the public *today* would understand it for sure.
@@TotalDec I mean that to be batteries you don't need a matrix to keep them alive and functional to that use, you can keep the humans in a vegetative state
7:23 Think of the agents as an anti-virus software. You can use one on your pc to perform a super quick virus scan but they still have to check each folder(cubicle) one by one till it finds the virus file(Neo). If it was as simple as "code google" searching to find a virus, anti-virus software wouldn't be necessary in the first place. And yes, if you move a file to a different folder then it literally does mean that the code for that file is no longer in the old folder.
Ironically, that whole idea of breaking away from a system of conformity and controlled thought where you don't have to love something everyone else loves is the major theme of The Matrix.
I do actually think that the French dude is actually a former One who survived as code and lived in the next Matrix. Think about it, he's able to manipulate the code of the Matrix, the only program to do so, he has the ghost dudes, former agents from a previous Matrix and other old programs working for him, he is allowed to capture powerful programs like the Keymaker with no problem, and the agents don't seem to want to mess with him. He survives Smiths attack unscathed, even the Oracle couldn't do that. Also, his wife his named Persephone, which makes him Hades, the King of the Underworld, like a God. Hence, a former One, who survived his Matrix movies and know lives in the next one.
@@TakeJanner sort of, he could bring programs into the Matrix. Although, he works for French dude, yet the current system allows that. I think the train man is a former program the French dude has allowed him to stay in this version.
Merv was not a former One. He was the Operating System to the first version of the Matrix. He wrote the code of the Cake, like how the Oracle wrote the code to the Cookies. His Twins are from the Nightmare version of the Matrix the Architect mentioned.
Eh. I still think the one on one from the first film has a lot more impact. Yeah, there are a lot more Smith's in the second, but even all together they feel less threatening than the single from the first. Add in the actual chemistry between the actors and the feeling of resolution? The solo fight felt like a solid conclusion while the group fight felt like an interesting footnote.
This was the first film I ever saw Hugo Weaving in. I had no idea at the time he was Australian, so I simply assumed he really did look and talk like Jack Nicholson after suffering a minor stroke.
a lot of people shit on that scene but imo it's one of the most profound moments, its a former agent going further than any other agent has gone. Instead of being part of the matrix he's like a computer virus within it, which is insanely ironic when you consider his speech to Morpheus in the first movie.
This is why Keanu decided to quit being Neo from The Matrix just so he can become John Wick instead. Cause he wanted to play a much more different, realistic and a way better character than Neo.
@@jeuryrabassa4724maybe cause the last matrix movie was made a few years before the first John wick? And people thought the third movie would be the last one?
Here's the problem with Doug's criticism of the Matrix's "plot hole." The human body needs the brain to power it. A lot of the body's biolelectricity comes from the brain, it's the most powerful organ in the body. Without the brain, the rest doesn't work. That's why the machines need the human mind to be active in the Matrix. They even say that in the movie.
I think what has aged the poorest about the Matrix movies were the outfits. The black suits and jackets were cool at the time, but what considerably normal person, in the real world, wears stuff like that on a regular basis? Most people today are wearing discount sneakers and cheap polyester t-shirts.
True but if you were a hacker and could literally program your avatar in the matrix with whatever you wanted, wouldn't you wear a badass leather coat and sunglasses? 😎 I think the only unrealistic thing is the lack of epic sports cars, I'd definitely program one of those.
@@geekehUK The unplugged humans are trying to “blend in” with the people in the Matrix so that it would be more difficult for the programs to find them. Appearance wise, they’re not going for realism, they’re going for “tactically stylish.” If someone showed up wearing an outfit like that, I’d think they’re either a cosplayer or someone who’s about to commit a shooting.
> what considerably normal person, in the real world, wears stuff like that on a regular basis? School shooters. Those are the only people who wear stuff like that (at least in the late 90s when Columbine happened).
Definitely love your videos, including this one despite our overall opinion difference on the 1st Matrix. You always make valid points and do so in an extremely entertaining way. Love your work! Keep it up!
I shall love the Matrix Trilogy forever because it gave birth to the "pretentious blow-off" scene at 58'. Thank you Nostalgia, you made my day. THAT is Matrix...
Neo was already in the mountains in that mansion. The twins used the key makers keys to open a door to different area. The door did close and that's why neo wasn't in the same place as them when he burst through the door. THEY teleported, NEO was still in the same place.
1:07 The Architect is explaining that there has been 4 "errors" like Neo previously. And that despite him trying to make a hyper realistic virtual trap, humans always seem to see through it eventually. And that people like Nero is the easiest way for him to break people's spirit again so an uprising doesn't happen
Even if you dont like it, you have to admire how successful it was. Its advertising was genius. Especially in japan, getting an anime made with a million different animation styles.
@Jeury Rabassa Equilibrium is nothing but stylized action masquerading as a smart sci-fi movie. Just because it takes things from Brave New World and Fahrenheit 451 doesn't put it in the same league as those works. Also, since when is realism an indicator of whether a movie is good or not? Star Wars movies don't depict realistic space travel but, that doesn't make them bad.
Neo: That was you on my computer... How did you do that? Leslie Neilson: With a computer, but that's not important now Mondoshawan: Only life important
@@rasputincharlemagnemalahayati Or John Wick, When he already sounds way more better and way more badass than Neo/Tom. They don't call him "Baba Yaga" for nothing.
3:05 okay this has got to be the stupidest criticism. They dyed all the clothes slightly light green and painted some of the walls with some of that paint that same green, the green of early color monitors as an elegant way of visually distinguish inside the matrix versus outside. That green was first created by early hackers back when hacking was literal, and they were bending and breaking things to make them. It’s not “for some reason” it’s exactly the kind of clever subtle story telling you’ve praised other films for, and frankly indicates that your problem with the film is not that the film wasn’t well made but that it was so commonly recognized as well made that you don’t get to feel good for pointing it out to people. It is not proof positive of this, merely indicative. PS If you’ll notice, the local servers of the humans don’t have that green. They may even be slightly blue but that might be my green light comes getting tired.
"Made for one thing, Seach and Destroy" which is of course two things. The line where Tank calls Neo "a machine" like its a compliment to how fast he's learning - I never understood that either
In order to destroy something, you must first be able to locate it. Locating it is a part of destroying it. Mental fatigue and overload are a thing. Tank called him a machine because he didn't need a break. I mean, if they had the storage space Neo had, they wouldn't wait until a program was needed to upload it, like hot wiring a bike or flying a helicopter.
But unfortunately, Some people seems to not care about that just because it was only in the third movie and not in the previous two. Some people can be so dumb and stupid sometimes.
When Smith hacks into the crew member, it makes sense because if the person truly believes they are being hacked and truly believes that they are turning into an agent then their mind is not under Smith's control. It's the same concept as if you die in the Matrix, the mind believes that you died and you actually in the real world. I guess the Matrix could have a memory wipe code or like a reset code to make everyone forget the crazy events but it really isn't expalined.
What are you talking about? There is a giant metal connector attached to that guy's brain. Smith in the matrix takes over his body. That means the Smith data entered into that guys brain in real life because of that connector. Same thing how Neo learned kung fu.
I love these persistent skits that accompany the reviews, matrix and the devil being my 2 favorite. You should do these more, the pirates month one was good but felt a bit short.
"Why is there a Matrix?" Smith said why in the movie. They first created a utopia that the humans rejected and they lost entire crops so, they created a second reality that was more believable to the humans. This way they could harvest the energy they needed to survive. It's not a plot hole if it doesn't break the movie's logic and, that's the logic the movie established. It sounds like you don't understand the fiction part of science fiction and are instead basing your criticisms on how things work in real life but, it's not real life, it's a movie.
Not a plot hole. What would humans dream about without the Matrix? Our minds wouldn't have developed much farther than a fetus. I think less energy per body that way. I could be wrong.
After 1:07:15 I just realized when Neo is talking to architect or whatever, you can actually see some of the scenes where Trinity was fighting the agent between blowing up the station and jumping out the window.
What weird to me about Zion is that it’s portrayed as this like small group of rebel underdogs… but there’s a hundred thousand of them in the hell-looking orgy cave and Zion itself is massiveeeeee. A) how are they underdogs when they number greater than many cities, and B) how has this gargantuan enterprise not been discovered until now?
IDK why people overcomplicate the matrix. The machines created a simulation for people but some didn't like being in the simulation and wanted to live in the real world. Those people broke out of the matrix and formed a community called Zion. The machines created programs like the Oracle and the Merovingian to make a game for the unplugged people to keep them from destroying the matrix. The one is just the accumulation (the remainder) of the calculation of the matrix. The longer the simulation runs, the bigger the remainder becomes; like dividing 10 by 3, you get 3.33333... The remainder keeps getting bigger. So to reboot the simulation, the machines trick the unplugged people to find the remainder (Neo) and take him to the source to reboot the simulation and start all over again. The architect makes Neo think that he is saving humanity because the machines are attacking Zion. He does it to trick him into plugging back in to reboot the simulation. What is special about Neo we see is that he chose to save his loved one over saving humanity. When he didn't plug back in, the remainder kept getting bigger which is why he had powers in Zion and why the oracle didn't know what to do because she wasn't programmed with that possibility. Eventually, Neo realizes his purpose is to plug back in to reboot the simulation and so he goes to Machine City. The problem was that Smith had gotten too big because his code got infected by Neo's code and became a sort of Anti-One (-1). So Neo lets Smith plug into him so they can cancel each other out and let the simulation reboot. The problem with making a matrix within the matrix theory is that people would then want to unplug out of that matrix and the machines would then have to make a third matrix for those people, and a fourth, and a fifth, and so on. You would basically end up with infinitely recurring matrices which would then overload the machine running the simulation. So the machines control most people by trapping them in the matrix and the rest of the people are controlled by a fake war between them and the machines.
As someone who is named Tom, that rant about Neo's real name still stings a bit, especially since I've always hated my name and how ... bland it sounds. I guess I now have a small taste of how people named Karen or Chad feel.
2:04:35 did she really just respond to someone asking what happens if trinity says no by stating that it's not Tom's choice to make. Like yeah, that's why she's asking what happens if trinity makes the "wrong" choice
I think its pretty clear in hindsight that the writers were having a mental breakdown throughout these movies starting with the end of production for the first movie. Maybe it was drugs maybe it was the pressure.
Personally I really like the matrix, and yeah it may be a little outdated but it's still a decent movie in my opinion. The key word here is opinion. Lot of people demonize a person when they don't like the same thing that the majority of people do, and that's just not right. Everyone's entitled to their own and shouldn't be judged for it.
2:44 I get this is early in the video, but the first movie is amazing. It doesn't really matter if it's dated. Maybe I'm biased for having grown up in the time that it was made, but the film stands up as an amazing an innovative science fiction story. Especially since the people in the present actually have no idea what year it is. If the movie was made today, I'd love it all the same. Time period and all. In fact, I think I'd like it even more for saying that the simulation only got as far as the 90's before it was rebooted. This concept was never done quite the same as these people did it.
The Matrix came out when I was in 8th grade. I saw it in the theater with my friends, and...I left completely confused and unimpressed. My friends were rambling non-stop about how cool all the action scenes were, especially the big gun fight in the lobby. But I barely remembered that scene and couldn't connect with anything they were talking about. The whole movie was just an unimpressive blur to me. A few months later I went to the optometrist and found out that I was nearsighted and needed glasses. I thought the screen being such a blurry mess that it made it impossible to tell what was going on was how everyone saw it, and indeed the world. I got glasses and watched the movie again. I loved it. Sadly, this is all a true story.
Yup these movies definetely peaked wuth animatrix... although that highway scene still is the best action scene bar none.. It's also funny how critic enjoys ressurections ( that movie is just gawd aweful 😂)
Zion control wasn't in the matrix, Zion is well below broadcast depth. They were in a construct, like the dojo, they're just taking advantage of the hardware the machines installed in them. Human interface devices are probably rather rare, the machines don't need them, and most of their tech appears to be salvaged from the machines.
Yea, it's pretty obvious that the matrix is software, so why couldn't the humans write there own software to run on the hardware? It'd just the difference who runs it
I saw the original Matrix movie so many times in theaters. My favorite matrix movie was actually the Animatrix because I feel that it was more closer to what the narrative should have been. I know I might be alone on this statement but I think they should have stopped at the first one then the Animatrix and left it obliguous.
Keanu got so much better at acting and so much more likeable, and you can tell that he really missed Carrie-Anne Moss, he almost sounds nervous when talking about her, its kind of endearing!
@Channel Awesome most of your movie reviews i agree completely with. but with this one there are things i think you've overlooked, if not trying to deliberately ridicule out of ha... err... bias! this ended up as quite a sizable wall of text from me writing it while watching. sorry about that. 24:41 logic of Merry Melodies? no. the Smith-occupied body died, just like the agent on the rooftop. he just took over a passenger's body, which wasn't worth spending screen time on to show, instead assuming that people can logic it out. non-Merry Melodie-like. 49:15 what indicates that being the matrix..? i always thought it's just a white control room with holographic computers in it. normally born people have no connection-sockets (or "jacks") on their body, and they handle computer stuff outside the matrix. so... in that case, they DID just go to a computer. 52:41 going into the matrix, their mind is converted into data. it's how they can exist inside a program. their data infected and hijacked by the Smith virus, they are still the same person, but are no longer in control. meaning that it was still Bane's mind, but Smith's will that got downloaded back into Bane's brain, thus bringing a copy of Smith outside the matrix in Bane's body. the real question is: why move the mind into the matrix and not just copy the brain's content? why not copy-paste as many Neo-s as many Smith copies there are and eliminating the danger of death of the real person? 1:00:56 she's a program. she meant that she can clearly see it in their code (they all are just data inside the matrix afterall). remember how Neo seen the "true form" of the matrix at the end of the first movie? programs need no real world-like visual interpretation of the codes to understand and interact with them. they are a part of it. it's like in videogames. regular players only see and enjoy the marvel of them as intended. and although it doesn't come close to the level of what Neo was doing, the devs of those games and those that understand how it all works - besides what everyone else sees - can also see the sprites, the textures, the polygons said textures are put on, etc., whereas from the perspective of non-player characters inside the games need no... well you get the point. the programs in the matrix are just NPC-s with advanced AI. 1:01:43 the french and his minions are supposedly rogue programs. anomalies that re-wrote their own codes to bend and surpass some rules. the white rasta dudes are supposedly the matrix's interpretation of ghosts, the OP minions in the chateau were vampires. 59:16 and 1:05:07 the keymaker isn't a "powerful hacker", he's another program (NPC). one who's job is to control the connections between places. he knows, because he's programmed to know. the matrix can't fit on just a single server, so it's divided up to multiple zones, among multiple servers. doors are the pathways between them. think of doors like cables between servers. he can make keys that manipulate where each door is connected. hence the location change, once the doors close. they revert to default. (bit of resemblance to Monsters Inc. doors to the human world on that part, imo.) 1:10:50 the dude's name is Bane. now imagine an arrow pointing back to what i said to the 52:41 part. and yes, all of this i've figured out by watching the movies. call me a nerd, a geek, w/e. but i never researched any of this. 1:19:17 again. programs. can read the codes of the human-mind-turned-data. 1:31:27 they COULD make yet another matrix, like they've done in the past, but that would bring the same result, like the 5 other times. and they'd rather want... you know... a solution instead of an endless loop of things always ending up with the Smith virus corrupting the whole system..? and before anyone says "just exclude the Smith program from the new one", it doesn't matter which agent it is. as long as there are agents, one will end up as a virus. like 5 times before. and if no agents are included at all, then who's gonna keep the humans in check? that would be like handing the victory over to them. 1:32:53 he's only fighting one, because the rest would be taken out like balloons. the oracle's copy that he's fighting is the strongest. just like Neo couldn't beat anyone in the beginning, but understanding the matrix more and more, he was able to get stronger. notice how everything shakes when Smith infects the oracle? someone with the sight of the oracle could see/know how Neo's powers work. and since we can see from Sati's example that Smith gains whatever knowledge the infected has, chances are that he can replicate it with that one oracle-base copy, thus his abilities becoming Neo-like. compared to the others, stronger, faster, can fly, etc. and since he can fly too, this time Neo couldn't run (fly) away from the fight with that single one. 1:35:24 the whole "balance each other out" thing doesn't seem right. see how the machine sends an impulse into Neo's body after he gets infected? Smith isn't a nega-Neo, but Neo's body IS directly connected to the mainframe this time. providing the machines with a direct connection to the Smith network. a simple matter to isolate what data got added to Neo's after the infection, thus having the exact sample of code that comprises the Smith virus, which can now be removed from every program in the matrix. as for the 4th movie... nope. got nothing there. xD
On the second point I personally completely disagree with you on it. Given all the stuff that we know about Zion I personally find it really hard to believe that room actually exists. I mean they are in a white void for crying out loud. But as they show throughout the series they can make their own Mini-Matrixes for their own purposes so it makes total sense for them to use that to give their staff better equipment then they would have in reality. And in regards to your opening paragraph I find it odd that when someone says a film is a decent movie but over-rated people somehow hear that as "HE HATES IT!!!"
The comment about neo being stupid for flying round the world was wrong, the location inside the door he breaks is the mountain mansion he's standing outside, the French man closed that door cutting him off from previous location meaning his only option was to fly. Really need to watch the film if your going to make fun of it lol

Hey Critic! I’m currently working on a pro-sequels video. Can I use some excerpts from this to refute? I came over from Reddit where I didn’t expect to like this video due to the comments. But it’s really funny!
Hahaha! I loved the matrix. I'm your age, but my friend group definitely fell for the cool factor. It's style etc was enticing to our simple minds. I always recognized the corny elements, and whether there should or shouldn't be a matrix I think is easy to brush aside as "this is the world they wanted to create" - but for what it's worth, you have convinced me to regard it as less cool, or rather - more corny. I love action movies though, and essentially the stylistic blend of film noir with action was obviously enough to woo me.
The matrix is in the category same as Jurassic Park. They both had their decades and should have stayed in their decades. The last matrix wasn't needed. The reboot of the damn dinosaur movies didn't need to happen
You know what, I think if you look at the Matrix trilogy as the first Action RPG Movie, it kinda makes sense, with all those damn speaches. cause then it's just characters spouting dialog like in a game....
1:27:58 Im not sure if your criticism was against Locc here NC, but you may have forgot he was AGAINST any ships leaving Zion to find Neo's team, and this was why. Locc is not a believer of the Messiah (you used the clip when he says this on your own video)
For some reason, 1:05:55 for some reason, the key maker is the one character I remember from watching these movies as a kid. I didn’t remember the French guy, or the architect or even trinity’s name, but I remember the key maker. Don’t know why
1:06:34 neo is the result of the reboots who built the matrix adopting the same programing philosophy as Bethesda studios or for normies: neo's code in the matrix has a glitch that makes him OP he is the fortify restoration loop of the matrix if you don't know what a fortify restoration loop is look it up I can't be bothered to explain
I hope next year he does an Edgar Wright month, it would give him the perfect reason to cover the Cornetto trilogy and Scott pilgrim Vs the world, blus sing, ant man or last night in soho
It was a terrible idea, but I have to give THE MATRIX credit for innovating that "puke-green" color scheme. For a few years afterward, it seemed as if every "serious" Hollywood film was experimenting with either dingy green or other weirdly colored filters.
Why is there a matrix? Because the machines have no purpose without humanity. Existence is not enough for a self-aware intelligence. Existence must have purpose.
Can someone explain what the reason was behind the music change at the end of the Matrix 1 review? Seriously, go back to the original video and it's just generic rock music and Jim says "hey guys." Here, the phone call is cut off slightly early, there's a song with actual lyrics playing over the "slow-motion," and Jim is muted. Why was this change made?
"Why don't people just stay asleep and dream instead of living in the Matrix?" I don't think people can sleep forever. Also, the machines have people live lives in the Matrix so they think it's real, and don't get the idea to break out. It's a big distraction.
I genuinely wish the matrix only had the first movie and then the animatrix or a short spinoff that didn't touch the original material. It wasn't fit for a trilogy.
(31:12) did he just say “Funky Buttlovin?” (LMAO Love this Rookie of the Year reference. In fact, ever since that movie “funky buttlovin” has been one of my personal “cuss” words I use from time to time)

@@TakeJanner sort of, he could bring programs into the Matrix. Although, he works for French dude, yet the current system allows that. I think the train man is a former program the French dude has allowed him to stay in this version.

Not gonna lie, Neo's fight against the army of Smith's after his meeting with the Oracle is the best damn scene in the entire trilogy.
Nah, those special effects did not hold up well. Its all pretty silly looking.
a lot of people shit on that scene but imo it's one of the most profound moments, its a former agent going further than any other agent has gone. Instead of being part of the matrix he's like a computer virus within it, which is insanely ironic when you consider his speech to Morpheus in the first movie.

Even then the plot is still convoluted as hell.

I think what has aged the poorest about the Matrix movies were the outfits. The black suits and jackets were cool at the time, but what considerably normal person, in the real world, wears stuff like that on a regular basis? Most people today are wearing discount sneakers and cheap polyester t-shirts.
This is why John Wick characters has way better outfits than all Matrix characters.
And their all assassins.

True but,
Equilibrium is a much better Matrix movie than the actual Matrix movies.
And it feels more realistic.

It’s funny that you mentioned the Smiths combining into one big monster, because in one of the Matrix games they actually do that.
1:33:00 he mentions it here
3:05 okay this has got to be the stupidest criticism.
56:00 to their credit at least they don’t fight him one-on-one while the others just stand there. They save that for the third movie.
But unfortunately,
Some people seems to not care about that just because it was only in the third movie and not in the previous two.
Some people can be so dumb and stupid sometimes.

I hated the Sopranos while everyone was gushing over it. Tried a few episodes but just couldn't get into it.
I'm right there with you. I've tried watching it several times but have never been able to finish it.
I’m dyslexic and thought you might be interested to hear on my first read through of your post I got “Will Smith jacks onto a crew member”
What are you talking about? There is a giant metal connector attached to that guy's brain. Smith in the matrix takes over his body. That means the Smith data entered into that guys brain in real life because of that connector. Same thing how Neo learned kung fu.

"Why is there a Matrix?"
Smith said why in the movie.

Wow. Perfectly put 👏
Wanted to sound like Hugo Weaving, ended up with drunk Nicolas Cage 😂.

0:40 sooo, in reality all science fiction movies are silly. So that not really a solid argument.

(bit of resemblance to Monsters Inc. doors to the human world on that part, imo.)
1:10:50 the dude's name is Bane. now imagine an arrow pointing back to what i said to the 52:41 part.
and yes, all of this i've figured out by watching the movies. call me a nerd, a geek, w/e. but i never researched any of this.

Why is there a matrix? Because the machines have no purpose without humanity.
Existence is not enough for a self-aware intelligence. Existence must have purpose.
The matrix was totally cool. However, the comedy has me laughing so hard!.
Them: "did you just take both pills?"
Me: Confused stare
"Why don't people just stay asleep and dream instead of living in the Matrix?" I don't think people can sleep forever. Also, the machines have people live lives in the Matrix so they think it's real, and don't get the idea to break out. It's a big distraction.
I genuinely wish the matrix only had the first movie and then the animatrix or a short spinoff that didn't touch the original material. It wasn't fit for a trilogy.
We need a Nostalgia Critic episode on the John Wick films too please
Thumbs up just for ‘Mr Algiacritic’. 😁
For me, the choreography and the music was the love. Snip the best bits out and that’s all you need.
1:40:56 "No more of the color green."
*Screen instead becomes offputtingly blue*
I can't tell if it's a self aware joke, but god damn is it funny
(31:12) did he just say “Funky Buttlovin?”
(LMAO Love this Rookie of the Year reference. In fact, ever since that movie “funky buttlovin” has been one of my personal “cuss” words I use from time to time)
