Several points: Exclusives hurt gaming and gamers, so saying Sony failed by not locking down their games is objectively not true, as Sony AND Microsoft sell consoles at a loss so selling on PC is pure net. Also, imagine talking about the history of indie games and not mentioning Cave Story...
Exclusives don't hurt gaming whatsoever. Probably the best time in gaming was when Sony and Microsoft were putting out quality exclusives back to back. Since Microsoft stopped trying, Sony has slowed way down because the competition is nearly dead. The only people it's bad for are those who don't have the console the game came out on, but emulation and patience rectify that. Without a killer app consoles will cease to exist, which will be bad as a whole since we'll have no company trying to sell theirs through incredible and innovative games. A lot of the stagnation we see now is due to the complete lack of competition in console exclusives since Sony is the only one releasing any quality games, and that has slowed to like 3 a generation compared to god knows how many during ps4 era. (Nintendo is and always will be in a separate ecosystem that doesn't really need to compete like xbox and ps) non exclusivity is great for consumers in the short term but at the loss of any incentive for these huge companies to make high budget games of any quality or originality, because it's not trying to sell a console with it. It will be much safer to just produce generic slop when all you have to do is justify a 60 dollar price tag compared to a 500 dollar console
We need more competition other than the existing companies we have already known about for the last 30 years. Google shutting down their entire gaming platform was a disaster. We want new platforms to find their own success in the market. Because that improves competition which means better prices and consumer friendly initiatives.
Honestly Nintendo’s gonna do what Nintendo’s gonna do. Also this video had you act like MatPat with the theory and Scott the Woz with every shot of you. This video was good
There's a lot of unused potential in video games currently. Growing up in the 90's, It felt the future of gaming was going to be awesome. Gaming wasn't Hyper focused on graphics or using the same bland copy & paste game features. Gaming should be focused on satisfying physics effects, fun movement, rag doll effects, games utilizing creative art styles, games had a range of different gameplay modes to play. Creative and fun gameplay mechanics is so much more important compared to "Realism" In my opinion I don't care about 4k resolution or Ray traced reflections, COMPARED to having satisfying damage effects, interactive environments, breakable objects, the ability to climb or play using a stealth approach. These are just random examples. It's important a game has good enemy CPU behavior so you can have fun in single player modes, or have CPU bots in offline modes. Current video games have focused way too much on nitpicking the least important aspects and forgot what parts ACTUALLY make a good game GOOD. It seems they have forgotten how much players enjoy just being able to jump in and start having fun playing a game. It seems like a bunch of game genres have been completely forgotten about.. As well as certain Art styles & certain subject matters. Old school PS1 & N64 style graphics can work, if a creative design is used. I seriously don't know why gaming had to fall into this rut that we are in..? Also: {We have seen that even if companies delay games, it isn't improving the quality of games being released. Which is a sign there is a MUCH DEEPER issue going on with modern games. No excuses, devs used to make great games with much less and they would have given anything to have certain capabilities to utilize that are available today. It just takes actual passion, focus & talent to make great games. Sidenote: It's so crazy how many people are still supporting super mega rich companies putting out unacceptable products.. i don't understand certain people. I don't understand how certain companies can be messing up so badly. It's frustrating that other passionate people are not allowed to make a version of a type of game that we used to have but no longer get anymore.. Yet these huge companies get full control over if an unused game IP gets made & they do everything they can so no other versions of a game idea will ever come out. Even if there's a huge fan base around certain ideas and there's a ton of passionate devs out there dying to make a version of a certain video game idea.. that frustrates me beyond belief} Lately I've wished Game Dev's would leave big companies & group together to make their own passion projects. These big companies need their devs yet they take them for granted, they restrict their creativity. I'd like to see these giant corporations make games without game devs and only big wig higher ups. Good luck
Video games are becoming expensive to purchase for gamers and most of triple a games are not for gamers and they are taking longer to develop while indie games are cheaper to develop and actual gamers want to buy these indie games because they are meant for gamers not the morden audience
an ad for a gaming related degree while talking about how that exact market and its biggest companies are struggling is crazy lmaoooo
Perhaps….. but I’m struggling too out here and indies are actually performing excellent
supporting this vid just for the effort.
