This is truly one of the 5 best albums ever recorded.
HMS Thunderchild: Despite being fictional, One of the most under-appreciated Warships of all time
HalfLifeExpert1 amen!
Half life expert one what an epic name
The first half life expert
My parents own the album, and as a kid i used to listen alot to it. The great thing about the musical version of the book is that you can imagine the different scenes a events yourself, as the narrator tells the tale the music helps set the mood. No movie is as powerful as your own imagination.
great music, totally classic, thanks for posting..
Jeff Wayne built our hopes up. Then dashed them against the flames of despair! You will be remembered ThunderChild!
This was always my favorite track when I was 12. I would play it when washing up. The egg whisk was always the tripod and the wooden spoon was always the ThunderChild.
you are listening to this very differently than i do
One word can describe this sort of music: AWESOME!
The War of the Worlds is the best album that was ever made. Nice tribute video !
Fantastic. This is such an uplifting part of War of the Worlds (well, for a while, at least...)
"People started cheering, Come on Thunderchild!"
this is great with headphones on and turned up high, well worth watching the dvd as well
Moving swiftly through the waters canons blazing as she came, brought a mighty metal warlord crashing down in sheets of flame...
Sensing victory was nearing, thinking fortune must have smiled... People started cheering "COME ON THUNDERCHILD!!"
Damn how awe inspiring. Gave me goosebumps and made me think "AWWW!"
I remember the fist time I heard wotw as a kid it scared the crap out of me. Fantastic
It is so wonderful to hear Chris Thompson ( Manfred mann's earth band)singing again.
First, time I heard this I was about 15, I cried when Thunder Child, lost the battle and it still gives me a lump in my throat..
It is simple, yet sais alot about the futility of 'Thunder child' as she attempts to protect / cover the ferry.
I like the way you show the Tripods, you display their aim of total destruction. One is more than enough for the job,yet they converge en-mass.I also like the pods falling from the sky in the backround.
Nice one!
I can sing Thunderchild off by heart I've heard it that much lol...its a bloody good song and so is the Album!
Fantastic! Love the Thunderchild!
I cannot begin to tell you what this double set 8-track meant to a bunch of 8-10 year olds in an Art class! As I remember it. It drew off one side of our brains in order that the Art (painting, pastel, etc.) side could function.
i have no idea why but this song brings me to tears :')
This was used in War of the servers ... An Epic Gmod Movie!
oh man just came back back from the live show in Dubli and I will just say EPIC!!!! It was worth every bit of money its a must see.
nice vid , brings back alot of memorys, thank you for posting,
TRIPODS OMG THE TRIPODS I FRIKIN LOVE THE TRIPODS!
COME ON THUNDERCHILD!
ALL HAIL THE ALL MIGHTY JEFF WAYNE
oh no thunderchild. i love the war of the worlds songs, they're brill.
NeutronStarMusic:
"The War of the Worlds is the best album that was ever made."
That sums it up fairly well!
It's somehow comforting to know that I'm not the only one who thinks that.
I use to have the 8-track double cassette tapes and I love this soundtrack. I thought it was ahead of it's time back then.
"ULLLLLAAAAAAAAA"
One of my favourite songs from the whole album.
Wish they'd make an animated film to go with this album.
kinda what the live show does
Imagine if they made a War of the Worlds movie that actually follows the original story using the same funding they did for that modern remake.
+Meester Writer I'm trying to find a copy, but check out The Great Martian War 1913 - 1917
lcb027 thanks i will
I want to write a script for one in my own mind(i even drew my own tripod)but it might be garbage.
Meester Writer Then it would be orgasms on the big screen.
i would run to cinema for watch the movie
Farewell Thunderchild!
R.I.P. Thunderchild
I remember the Thunderchild from the book, it was one of the few things that could stand up to the Martian war machines, in fact the tripods didn't have force shields like in the movie, a twelve pounder took out one of them at one point, but by and large the human race was largely out matched, still I love the part where the Thunderchild makes a charge at the tripods.
i went to college last week and went on top of the stage and sung this song with my girlfriend
All Hail Thunder Child...
going to see this at o2 next year......best album ever made, even my 7 yr old son love this album
It was the machine illustrations that scared me. But the thing is, after I found out who designed them, I couldn't be scared. You see, I love watching kid's stuff like Thunderbirds, and I soon found out that one of the series' model makers designed these martian machines. From then on, I couldn't get scared of them!
I'm 18 and I cried to :"(
DashCRASH I did once to be fair.
I too would love a properly financed & produced movie to be released based loosely around Jeff Wayne’s production of HG Well’s “War Of The Worlds” - set in the correct era and location & in keeping with his soundtrack.
Until then, I’d suggest to everyone who loves this story to watch “War Of The Worlds: Goliath”, a 2012 Malaysian(!) steampunk/dieselpunk-meets anime film that is set at the onset of WWI, in which the Martians return, forcing the Earth’s armies instead to unite for the common good and fight back with our own steam driven Fighting Machines (and other cool tech), reverse engineered from those left behind after the first Martian War. Not a perfect movie at all, but a very well executed & imaginative one.
ULLA!
I LOVE YOU THUNDERCHILD!!!
Thunder Child is actually quite a small ship, a torpedo ram. In the book, she hurtles past the little ferry just feet away, leaving it rocking in her wake.
The whole novel, which you can download for free, is scarier and more thrilling than any film interpretation so far. In fact, you could shoot a film straight off the pages, and it's about time someone did just that! Its effect on Victorian readers must have been shattering.
LOL,
I use to run around on an Aircraft carrier flight deck at night, during heavy flight ops singing " Flashing ropes and smashing timbers ---flashing heat rays peirced the deck--- "
LOL
That song and I would also hum Darth Vader Emperors march song
2 minutes of solid shivering achieved, definately my now favourite song (although it's been up in my top 100 since i was 5)
Just returned from the live performance of TWOTW at MEN. This is one of the really powerful songs redone. All wonderful versions. Not getting into the creation arguments as they are irrelevant to this excellent music.
This whole album kicks ass.
omg when i was 6 i listened to this song and it scared the the shit out of me ooooollaaaaa
many thanks to H.G.Wells and a big thank you to his brother who placed the idea, and again many thanks to Jeff's father that seeded the idea.... the world would be a less.....well just less thanks.
the f.p.s game was out on the PS1 i still play it today they should make one for the PS 3 or XBOX 360
then i must be something like a victorian reader,i read alot and was much more interested in books than my classmates :D
I'll go dl it now.
Those brave men... Knowing the fate that all other resistance had been met with, they still gave it their all and by God, they took one tripod down with them!
Farewell, Thunderchild!
Ullaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa............Ullaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa -*till eternity*-
Thanks for posting !!!
why does every goddamned movie cut out the thunder child? WHY GOD WHY?
Off to the Oddyssy Belfast on 2nd December to see it, can't wait :D
The Thunderchild was fighting the martians so the steamer could get away, so the martians turned their attention to the Thunderchild
The legendary Thunderchild, rest in peace knowing you saved countless refugees from annihilation. COME ON THUNDERCHILD!
I tell you where you went. To the bottom of the lake/ocean (im not sure what it was). But you went down fighting, and you will be forever remembered as that one battleship that fought for our freedom!
true. such is the reality of war unfortunately :(
so awesome
I LOVE THEM TRIPODS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Tyrelcorp166 FFS WIND UR NECK IN !! THIS IS A CLASSIC !!!
no matter wot money or WHO tries to redo this THEY CANT !!!
its like trying to tell a group they can be bigger and better than THE BEATLES , it JUST CANT HAPPEN , its been around 4 years and it STILL will be around for years !! our great , great , great , great grandkids will STILL be talking AND LISTENING to this , get used to it Xxx
AWESOME! I've loved this book since 1st Grade and the musical since 3rd. Oh, btw, the Thunderchild doesn't sink in the book.
ULLAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Any time I hear this I think if there is a ship named Thunder Child it's a doomed ship, but at least it will go out in a blaze of glory.
@cleareyedcleanheart they have done a really really good musical of this just a few years back, is worth seeing if it ever runs again.
the part of this osng with the synths allways reminds me of an old game i once played XD like, REALLY old XD
such an epic song.
I named my car in honour of HMS Thunderchild.
I cried when the thuderchild admin battle ship sank :(
I stand corrected. Cool. Thanks.
you will live on thunder child in all are hearts
+1 Kudos for that!
¿A quién no le puede gustar ésto? Todo el musical de Jeff Wayne de la Guerra de los Mundos es increible.
*has epic images of a Baneblade ripping through walls*
you damn Mon-keigh! haha
Thunderchild.....HaHa a very good song
OMG CHUCK NORRIS SAVE THUNDERCHILD!!!
You're so damn right!!
Chris Thompson is superb still!!
Coolest part of the book.
FULL STEAM AHEAD, WE'RE GONNA RAM THOSE BRUTES BACK TO WHERE THEY CAME FROM!
lol glad i wasn't the only one.
@kyon813 In the book the Martians actually say the word "ALOO" or "ALLOO" i can't remember which-Jeff just turned the letters around, probably because ULLA sounds better?
This is one of my favourite JW'S MVoWotW song. The others are Forever Autumn and Spirit of Man. But this one...It's without a doubt the most epic.
Too Right!!!! :)
Thunder Child is a fictional torpedo ram that went down in history which saved our asses from double no lotioning by the martians. She saved us all. I hope there's a new ship that will be called "Thunder Child" at some point.
Got my tickets....newcastle 2/12/2010 row G
It makes for more dramatic viewing :D
*COME ON THUNDER CHILD* !!!!!
Come on thunder child !!!!!!
In the follow up comics of War of the World Britain goes on to rule most of the world with martian technology.
In London there is a square named in honour of the captain of the Thunderchild, of all Britain's military forces he fought best against the Martians and sacrificed himself and his ship to save the refugees.
Spielberg, you fucked up! Where was this ironclad beast? Where!?
Why in the world don't they make a movie based on the book? They could even do a musical using Jeff Lynne's father's vision as a soundtrtack and it would not only be awesome, it would be one of the only musicals worth watching.
I STARTED TO TEAR UP AFTER THE HMS THUNDERCHILD SANK
i dont want to sound like a know it all, but in the musical it says "invisible rays of heat" yet in all the pictures the rays are visible
@jdnice1000 I remember that when i was about 10 :L such a good game for its time and i wish i had a ps1 so i could play it again :P
Good for you
"come on thuuuunnndeerrrchild!"
I have the original album! It's gr8! Red Weed!
