Found the start of level 2 very nerve racking and claustrophobic. You're confined to a machine gun turret, with flying machines swooping down on you with no means of dodging them. Then, when all seems calm, those blocky, jittery Scout Machines start advancing on you from the trees. Damn! It felt like such a reward when the truck pulled up alongside me and allowed me to get out and move around. Great game
Surprisingly I never played the PS1 game of War of the Worlds. However watching game play walkthrough's it remained faithful to Jeff Wayne's story being a soldier fighting the Martians with armoured vehicles to blasting them with cannons on the Thunderchild! This music is powerful... you really feel it. Blasting away at the fighting machines battling for Britain and for humanity.
Was playing World of Tanks yesterday. Game started in my T-54. Wasn't doing very well at all. Halfway through the battle this comes on in my playlist. Went on to get three kills in rapid succession and help cap the enemy base. Couldn't have got any better than that!
Which game, though? The 1998 RTS or the 1999 3rd person shooter? Both use this same soundtrack. I've only played the RTS myself, and I'd really like to play it again somehow... Will have to look into getting a Win98 VM running on my PC or something.
@@CrashHeadroom Agreed. The RTS was hard as hell, especially if you played as the Brits. Great game though and I would also love to see it get a re-release on GOG one day.
This game came free when we bought a new PC many years ago, along with Baldur's Gate too. My older self now appreciates how epic a bundle of games that was! But back then I was very young and found this game really difficult. This song reminds me of the excitement and tension of edging forward all my armoured lorries and track layers towards the death-spitting Martian base.

I'll always remember defending that barge on the first mission of the PS1 game. The music kept building up, I'm sat on the turret and red blips appeared on radar. As if it were scripted the first solo started playing as I opened fire on the first flying machine. Despite the sheer noise of the guns firing and flying machines exploding I could hear the guitar solo cutting through. I felt like a real hero! And it's all down to this bit of music. Love it.
KamisDisasterChild OH NO OH NO NOT ME... BUT IF MAN KIND IS TO SURVIVE, THE PEOPLE LEFT ALIVE, THEN WE WILL HAVE TO BUILD A NEW... AND WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO BE... THE CHOSEN FEW!
Damn, this music always makes me wanna play the game. It was fucking awesome with all the research, action, units and most importantly, music! I think this game is good even be modern standards (A remake would be AWESOME )
I have the PC game on CD but it doesn't start. I bought it like a year ago and just hoped that it miraculously works xD...... :( At least I have the PS1 game and that's super fun too.
@@Pasixable there may be a way to get the P.C version to work. Try going into properties after installation and try in a different compatibility mode? Just an idea :)
@SuperMrBentley Maybe a tip; If you're up against any Martian machine, try to hit the shadow BELOW the 'hoods' of the machine with any of the Human Vehicles. If done right, the Human tanks should inflict much more damage.
Controls clunky, graphics abysmal at times, but soundtrack slapped every time. Find it better than the musical or other versions somehow. Would kill to find these gems on Spotify...
With artwork like that, it's easy to believe the conspiracy theorists, that governments around the world HAVE underground bunkers, LOL and/or are in negotiations with aliens from other worlds, good or bad...seriously though, maybe we should have a SteamPunk version of War of the Worlds, along the lines of Mortal Engines?
MegaTNT32 Aye, that would be badass. Maybe have the music change or intensify depending on what happens. Imagine hearing 'The Artilleryman and The Fighting Machine' with an intense, dramatic choir as the martian machines are almost on top of your forces.

the beggining of this song is the most amazing epic thing ever
Reminds me of Alien Trilogy on ps1 the soundtracks are quite similar bro if you're familiar ?😊

I hope GOG games can add the game of War of the Worlds to their library.

I hadn't but i just did. I'm vote no.84

Still one of top games of my life thus far. This music always brings me elation with the memories it conjurs up.
The 1 dislike was from the Martian who entered an underground city while scouting, as it was about to get a cannon shot... to the face!
Then two others followed only to be taken out the same way.

are u sure about that?
I-Its so beautiful, I think I might cry
The game, despite the graphics was epic and this track was my absolute fave. Thunder child a very, very close second.
This song makes me wanna stand up, go out and start digging a ditch in front of my house in case a Martian invasion occurred XD

I would love a remake, as long as they use these sick beats! Only thing that doesn't need a remake
11 years later and no remake, that makes me sad
This music makes me feel like grab a shovel and start digging!!
1:13 best part in the whole song
Fantastic, I heard those remixes first time around 10 years ago and they are still impressing me!

It's all about the steam and water power here! States become united =)
"This music was made for the PC and Playstation game." lol... Oh This music was made for a nightmare in the late 1970's that began in the 1890s.
These particular remixes were actually made for the 1998 PC strategy game and reused for the 1999 PC and PlayStation 3rd person shooter.

This was my favorite sound track but this is not the remix from the CD.
It's from the PC game not the Remix CD.
Also the PSX version

I just...think it would be an awesome idea if done right. Perhaps a Martian faction in a Civ game would be cool too.
They did a pretty damn good one on Civ 3, they did another for Civ 5, but it kinda sucks. But imagine having a total war style Thunderchild scene.
