    Hey guys! I'm Alexandra Gater and I show you how to do rental-friendly upgrades and DIY projects on a budget. New videos every Saturday! Today I’m turning the tiniest studio apartment I've ever made over into a dark & moody industrial style space with tons of personality. Austen has lived in this apartment for five years but it hasn't ever felt like home - until today! I add in a custom DIY air conditioner unit cover and a 3-leaf Murphy table to give him lots of space to work, craft and dine.

    I think this is my favourite makeover you’ve done. You really made such a tiny space look much bigger and the drop leaf table is so great because of him working from home and being a sewer. I know the intention is that each leaf is a zone but I just think it’s great that he can make the table longer as needed since for sewing that’ll be so useful! So happy he kept the chest, it’s beautiful on its own but also works perfectly in the space. The dark wall at the back actually makes the space look bigger I found because it made that wall look like it was further back that it is. Even if he had been a less minimalist person with more clothing I think the layout chosen was great - could have added shelving above the drop leaf table or something. Great job!

    • @sandieedward8214
      @sandieedward8214 2 года назад +3

      Like I said that shelving in white could have been applied to wall and it would've been another great storage for sewing 🪡🧵 & art 🎨 🪛✂️🔗📌✂️📍🖍️🖌️📏📐Needs: if shelf is still around could fix it similar to hallway shoe storage above on wall space as peg boards and all those things need storage... But the comments being made could always result in upgrades to one initial marvelous creative Space 🤔 It's a Fantastic Designers Choice💕🥰💯% 💥🎯

    • @mariogrenadine
      @mariogrenadine 2 года назад

      I'd have added shelved behind the folded tables ... they'd be hidden when the tables are down and serve as nice storage space which could be styled nicely too. Some shelves above also wouldn't hurt but that's just cause I'm personally definitely not a minimalist :D

    I love that transformation! For everyone who is thinking about Brimnes bed for a small 100sq feet bedroom - I’ve never used the handles because I knew my legs would be covered in bruises ;) Use some leather straps or a decorative string. You can also have nothing (but holes) - it’s easy to grab the drawer from the bottom.

    your BEST makeover imo: dark dramatic colors / contrast, fewer but larger artworks etc. for proper scale/proportion, so sophisticated and *expensive* looking! Great art choices and fabulous wood tones w. copper…beautiful choices for entryway, and all f course the 3 drop leaf tables and AC cover /table are genius.

    This is an incredible makeover ! I think the only thing I would change would be to have the rug which is under the bed cover the space between where the current rug ends and end it at the wall rather than having the trunk half on half off. Otherwise - BRAVO ! Graham is a genius with his DIY inventions. I love the a/c cover.
    These makeovers are not only for small spaces, they can be applied to larger spaces , and spaces that are 'tricky' to decorate with windows, doors,non- functional fireplaces, old french built in closets all over the the place :)

The only thing I would change is the caning on the AC cover. I would have changed the color of it to copper or used a sheet of perforated radiator grating to really complete the industrial look.

    You asked about air conditioner treatments. Years ago, I was in a small 1920s era unit that had two double-hung windows with an AC unit punched through the wall between the windows. I was already an avid salvaged (this was 1960s before salvage was cool) and I got three sets of movable-louvered window shutters and used them over the two windows and AC unit. I also built 12 inch deep shelves all the way across that wall at top-of-shutter height to the floor, creating four bays of bookshelves (two flanking the outsides of the windows, two filling the spaces between windows and AC) which felt like a single unified horizontal motif, all stained the same dark oak the shutters were. It all allowed airflow throughout but also blocked view of the garage I was next to, six feet away, with a passage sidewalk right next to those windows. A visual disaster converted to a privatized dominant theme that felt like a Victorian library.
