Hey guys! I'm Alexandra Gater and I show you how to do rental-friendly upgrades and DIY projects on a budget. Today I am making over my childhood best friend's nursery for her first baby! She loves whimsical, cottagecore style so this nursery is filled with pattern, colour and vintage finds!

Do her office/guest room next. I want to see her style in an adult space.
yes please
I agree!
❤❤❤ love this suggestion

I would also love to see an office/guest room!
I love how dad-to-be is grinning from ear to ear. Great job on the nursery!
Yeah! His smile is heartwarming 😊
I love this. I'm so over neutral nurseries. I feel like a whimsical baby mobile could be added yet 😉
What a great idea! I was thinking the space above the crib seemed empty but I think it could get crowded if they continued the gallery wall or put a large art piece. A mobile would be absolutely perfect!
I think she probably wanted to leave some empty space for the parents to specifically decorate with stuff for the baby when that happens. For instance, buying a mobile for over the crib is a fun thing for new parents to do (at least I would think so, we never used a crib, babies slept with us, so never really had the experience of designing a nursery, although had a lot of fun painting and decorating their rooms when they were young children.) Fantastic job, as usual, Alexandra. Funny, all of my favorite designers, on TV and RUclips, have been from Canada, although I am in the US. Also my favorite vegan vloggers. Hmmmmm. Grew up near Buffalo, so did spend a lot of time up north in my youth, including yearly summer vacations in the Muskoka Lake area. Love you Canadians.
And a diaper genie 😉

The child may not be able to appreciate WHY the room is beautiful, but she will feel the vibe. If you are happy and content there, she will pick up on it and the happy comfort it brings. 🙂🌷
So true!!! 🥰🥰
The room is beautiful love the colors! Wish you would've put the beautiful wallpaper on the crib wall. You loose so much of it on with the window & blinds. The pink dresser & cheetah lamp were great touches!
I know this is so not the point but the cat on the bed in the "before" shots of the room is sooo cutee i really love that y'all just went for the shot even tho kitty was front and center
I loved the wallpaper and it deserved to be on the big Wall. Other than that super cute room ❤️ well Done
Yes I agree, it’s prettier than the paint and there’s too much going on by the windows too appreciate it properly
I also wish she wallpapered all the walls to be honest or if it was too expensive I wish she chose a wallpaper with a more colorful background and color matched the bag round color of the wall paper and continued it on… hope that made some sort of sense 😅
Love it but not enough whimsy, a bit too grown up
Oh Team AG 😍 Two-time mum here - what a beautiful, serene space for taking care of a baby. Especially during the late night shift, when it seems like all the world is asleep, and it's just the two of you ❤❤ I'm really moved by the care that has gone into this room.
I wish the wall paper was on the bed wall😢
Beautiful
I was skeptical about the plum trim but it all came together so beautifully! The plum pipe gives that wall a really cool graphic feel. That wallpaper is so wonderful too.
They could add a nice mobile hung from the ceiling and above the crib. Maybe little purple and white clouds or birds... New babies like the movement and the contrast in colours apparently. (At least that's what they told me about 20 years ago.) Lovely!
No one NEEDS a nursery for the baby but new parents need a serene space to cuddle and parent ....IMO you hit it out of the park for these parents, your friends. BRAVO
I swear, this might be the very best makeover you’ve ever done. The way you layered color and pattern is so sophisticated and unlike the usual baby room. It’s also not colorless as some of the overly neutral baby trends these days. Magnificent!
I think the same thing after every single one! Alexandra and her team just continue to outdo themselves time and time again.
Love the makeover! The colour, the whimsey :) just one tiny suggestion - raise that dresser with some legs otherwise moms back is going to suffer big time....
Oh yes, that change table needed to be higher. I used a vintage dresser as a change table and after the first week I had my husband add new legs to raise it up.
Why would you paint the AC tubing purple? Why would you make it stand out? You could have painted it the same green colour so it blends in. I absolutely love that wallpaper though!!!!
I love the purple. It would still stand out painted the same color as the wall, so make it fun! ❤️
This turned out very nice. An elegant, cozy and fun nursery. There are a few things I would change. This is coming from a mother of 2 adult daughters. Babies will twist their little fingers, hands around many things. Fringe, tassels. Loose fibers such as faux fur can be pulled off. Everything goes in their mouths.
I never knew I wanted a old lady style nursery until now, this looks absolutely perfect! ❤
This is such a beautifully done nursery. You and DIY Dani are my Saturday morning favorites.
This is just beautiful. What a wonderful serene space for new baby. The rocking chair is the perfect spot. I love this!! ❤
Love the wallpaper love the green, not so much the Barney purple though.
Ficus trees do not like to be moved, so it was a good choice to just put the finicky baby back where it had been. Mine is nearly forty years old and STILL in its favorite spot. Happy plant; happy. . . . . . . . .plant. 😁
LOVE the colors and patterns in that room!
The nursery is so beautiful. What I like is that it's not matchy - matchy. But all the pieces go together. The wallpaper is so pretty and I love how you covered the blackout shade with fabric. What a fantastic renovation.
Gorgeous!!! I hope they sneak in a soft bed for kitty 🐈⬛
You guys are experts at taking a small space and turning it into a separate world. I can imagine parent rocking in chair as baby falls asleep and this being a refuge from the stress of the day.
Another great and creative redo. Wish I had known you when I had my babies- but that was a long long time ago.
How intimidating to do this for your childhood friend, for the most important occasion of her life and she's clearly very tasteful. Congratulations, you nailed it! Just gorgeous and so functional. Amazing work. So creative.
I freaking love that wallpaper. I love it so much I wish it wrapped around the wall behind the crib.
Woo hoo! So excited to see a nursery! I’m currently in the process of designing our nursery, and there is not a ton of content I resonate with out there to draw inspo from. Thank you for showcasing this on your channel!
I'm so happy to hear that!
I like the plum accents, but not on the pipe. A wooden box built around that would have been nice, for hiding the pipe and serving as a nice display unit. That would have worked with the plum paint better, maybe.
Great reveal. The nursery is "serene," and that wall paper is FABULOUS. Great colors and a great job. I'd add a trash can and a receptacle for whatever kind of diapers they will use.
3 years ago, when I told my friends and family I was painting my guest bedroom sage green and a plummy purple they were horrified. They ate their words, it looks amazing, I used A purple blackout blind I made myself that matched the paint and Olive green curtains. Painted the furniture to match and it seriously looks sensational.
I’m not a baby or an old lady but I need this room 😮 It’s absolutely gorgeous. Our bedroom is already a similar green with coral accents so now I have to figure out what I can paint in that plum shade, so dreamy!
Team Gater, I am freaking out right now. I LOVE this color palette and THAT wall paper is so beautiful & perfect. I adore the "grow into" direction you went with. Btw, your bestie is so pretty. Congrats on your new baby! Alexandra, you slayed this space!! 💜
Thank you so much, so happy you enjoyed!
Haven’t finished yet (so excited to see the finished room!), but was very relieved for functional purposes, to see that you chose to move the gallery wall to the side with the chair. Having been a nanny for so long and a lot of experience changing kids on changing tables, my first thought was “oh no! Once the baby is 7/8 months, they’re gonna start playing with the frames on the wall while they’re getting changed and then the gallery wall will have to come down!”
I really love that the style they chose is so prominent. The configuration worked out very nicely after all the tries. While I love the juxtaposing color of the pipes, my OCD eyes can’t deal with the asymmetry. I would have had Graham build a faux piping on the other side of the AC, to have a full purple frame around that wall, and I might even have wallpapered within that frame. But my first idea, when you showed the AC setup was that I would put up a curtain rod above the pipe and fill it with huge linen curtain panels to create canopy above the the crib and completely cover the piping. Either way, great job, Team AG, the room has lovely vibes 🙌
the blind is a roller blind is beautiful hack however it is not a roman style blind... a roman has pleating as it folds in a horitzonal stack. good hack - used that in clients homes since the 80's. Great job on the makeover.
I would HIGHLY Suggest going back after filming this to ADD a raised rail / bumper around the perimeter of the front and sides of the changing table (so that it goes up at least 4 to 6 inches above the changing pad), BECAUSE it will help keep the baby from rolling OFF the changing table while it’s up there (extra safety for baby, and better peace of mind for mom & dad). Yes, I’m a dad, so please Trust Me on this! -Thank you!
Besides this Highly Suggested (needed) SAFETY addition I just mentioned above, GREAT JOB Alexandra & Team AG!
I agree. Maybe not new borns, but babies a few months older are mooving a lot and so much sometime that they can fall even under the watch of an adult.
Beautiful ❤️ Mom will feel the love every moment she's in the room.
Graham as Barney 🤣 brings back memories of my baby boys who are now 24 and 27 nothing like that new mother feeling ❤ All the best to the new parents
This style is so beautiful. I love it for an adult space not just a baby
I know you moved the gallery wall for design reasons, but as someone who just lived this, it was a great move practically. Having art above your changing station only works for a few months until your baby can start grabbing. Changing a diaper while preventing your baby from pulling a framed piece of art down on themselves is not the vibe. We have books behind my rocking chair and now that he's older, he loves looking at them while I rock him to sleep. My guess is the art will provide similar visual interest as their baby matures. Great job!
You and DIY Danie are my Saturday morning pleasures
Not sure why you feature a pipe. I'd rather it disappear w/the green color.
Color so important. That wallpaper and the tree to go with it. And that couple and their grins in reaction such a warm spot in my heart . Thank you , Alexandria and the whole team . It takes a village to raise a new babies room....
The closet? Baby storage! I was hoping to see some cool design hidden away in there. Great colors and design. I’d love it for myself.
What an honor for Auntie Alexandra to do! It is stunning! I love the paper and love the light!
I like the space! I think the curtain could've worked if it was white, but the pattern or pattern with the gray, just looks tacky and cheap.
I agree. The window fabric totally clashes with the wallpaper, and way off with the purple. Solid shade would have been so much better.
Ac pipe should have been painted green , now its an eye sore .wall should have been on crib wall, wall papered wall an curtains look funny together
This room and the inspo has strong "Penelope" vibes and I love it!
The lamp chef kiss!
Gorgeous wall paper. It’s such a great makeover because it’s easily convertible to a grownup room.
I love this room my only reservation is the purple aircon pipe. However that’s my personal choice. I have to say that your choices of colours are so on point . The blind is just a great hack and the furniture and rug are beautiful. You all seem to live working with each , so many laughs and fun . Thanks for sharing 😊
I personally would've moved the wallpaper to that wall so that the curtain and tree could stand out on their own, and then wallpapered over the pipe and air conditioner. Either that or just painted it cream to blend in with the base color of the wallpaper. There's something about this room where the far wall feels very busy and chaotic, and the large wall with the crib feels a bit empty and unfinished.
Seems a bit of an odd choice to bring so much attention to something as ugly as an aircon pipe. Most people would be trying to blend it in, not making it stand out
This is beautiful, but I wish you'd chosen a wallpaper with a green background on the bigger wall. Give that fairytale unique vibe with the tree and the colors on the walls. Still super cute tho
This room is timelessly beautiful. This child will have the perfect room for all ages. I’ve never been a wallpaper fan but this has converted me - love this room!!! 💜💚💝 Well done team AG!!! 👏🏻 🎉 👏🏻
Growing a ficus tree to that size means it gets to stay! Keeping it in the same light conditions helps to ensure it doesn’t drop all its leaves.
AG: I love you, you love me.
Graham: Okay byeeee. 😅
I like the green walls, the furniture, but I don't like the purple (it's too dark, compared to the shade of green, it looks almost black), I don't understand why the AC pipe was painted purple (it's not something you want to highlight, ideally it shouldn't even have been on the wall or it should have been hidden at the border between the wall and the ceiling), the wallpaper is beautiful, but I would have put it on a bigger wall, so you could actually see it (too many elements on that wall, it's almost completely hidden and it clashes with the print of the blinds), I would have changed the lamp shade (is it black?), I don't know if there is enough storage space, the room is big enough to fit a bigger closet system. Probably my least favorite transformation on the channel, but I appreciate that it is not a regular nursery.
I feel the exact same way unfortunately. In addition to everything you pointed out, I feel like it's missing that really British and whimsical feeling of the inspiration photos. This feels more American pastoral as opposed to old-money London.
Dad’s reaction was so cuteeeee
This is giving a lot of nostalgia about my own childhood room. I had the exact same green on the walls, and my Mum styled it to give a garden kind of vibe. And that wallpaper is stunning!
Such a beautiful makeover These parents are bringing the baby home to a very magical nursery. Peaceful and relaxing. Love the crib. Great job
The purple on the pipe should continue past the aircon qnd down the other corner of the wall! Itll make it look framed and more intentional
Just found your channel last week and I have really enjoyed seeing others people's style and comfort with bright colour and print, it's not my style but I enjoy seeing the spaces come together, great work, watching from the Caribbean.
Hands down my favorite makeover to date. That purple paint and wallpaper is stunning. The ceiling light- wowzers! The pink paint and hardware, yes please! I’m obsessed with everything!
Love this. Plus I bet it can age well as the baby grows. The purple pipe makes it look like the crib is in a picture frame. Wonderful. 😊
GEEZ LOUISE! Alexandra is Really, Really, Really, Really Good at her Job.
It came out so beautifully! I love seeing you experiment with bolder colors like that purple. That baby is so lucky and she doesn't even know it yet!
To be fair, the baby-to-be really doesn't know anything yet 😂
@@erinjohnson7329 Maybe she knows the secrets of the universe and will forget them shortly.
Lovely makeover i would have added some fairy lights on that huge tree to make it more whimsical but what an amazing makeiver
What I love most about this baby room is that the color, wallpaper and rug could be a guest room for adults.
The nursery is beautiful, whimsical but not juvenile.
I love this design! I could have seen the air conditioner pipe covered in fake moss or made to look like a branch, like to play off of the wall paper 🤔
I really want to put a little plushie barney in the crib😂😂 I like this room because if u don't want the nursery anymore, just switch the crib with a double bed and u have ur guest room back
I don't have good feelings about that shade over the long haul. ( not to mention the inside mount lets in too much light. I think the paper would have been better on a wall without the window breaking it up so much. I liked you friend's description of where and how she wanted the room to go. You nailed part of it. Loved the wallpaper and paint choices.
The crib is just BEGGING for a canopy over it
This room will need a hamper and a diaper pail, and the changing table needs to be taller. Also, im worried about that heavy lamp. But the vibe and the direction of growing into the space are great!
The only thing is the micro over the freezer! I would build a table next to the cleaning supply closet for the microwave! The rest is beautiful! I think I’m going to do the title thing on my kitchen! ❤
The plum is just too much for me, but everything else is 🥰
I'm not a new born...but I want this room design for MEEE! Very nicely done...Bravo!!
I lovedI the shade cover up. I did this hack 20 years ago when I duped some Pottery Barn Shades. I used sheer leopard print facbric and hot glued it to a roller shade. I attached 3 loops at the bottom and hung a brass curtain rod through the loops. At the time the Potter Barn shade was $129.00 each. Mine cost less than $15 a piece to make.
Beautiful room! Two suggestions, though. Switch out the mustard (eyesore!) foot cushion to a dusty pink. Plus, secure a soft cloth floral (complimentary to the wallpaper) or vintage baby tapestry over the crib. It would be very safe and add interest alongside the art gallery. Otherwise, it's a very sweet room.🩷🌿
„I love you and you love me.“ „Okay, bye!“
Okay bye is my favourite part!
The cat lamp is a protector spiritual animal🐾
My suggestion: a blue light bulb in the cat lamp with remote at the door. When checking on baby during the night, these bulbs do not disturb as a white light does. Soothing, perfect for that last feeding time also.
A baby monitor in the room also, please.
Such a beautiful, beautiful space for a new precious one.
amazing space, wow! Also, the blooper ending reading to Graham...toooooo funny LOL
What a beautiful job you and Team AG did on this nursery! It's a room that will definitely grow with this lucky little girl! Every detail is always so well thought out, and we could see that Mommy and Daddy were both thrilled! I hope we get to see a picture of the new baby in her lovely room! Best of luck, Adelaide and Felix!
loveee it! the combination of colours works sooo well! My only concern would be the box shelves having sharp corners for when little baby starts to crawl and walk. Could easily remove that bottom shelf or add those corner protectors. Overall gorgeous!! that tree is everything!
i remove the hugh plant out of the room and the lamp with the black shade is a baby room other wise the room looks beautiful Alexandra...
Love the room you could have add the wallpaper inside of the cubbies for more colour 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
The baby will test the strength of those storage cubes when they're grown enough! My 1 year old's mission in life is to climb anything and everything in sight.
You did an amazing job with the nursery, I would only add utility carts from Ikea or Michaels for more movable storage and can be use later for art supplies, toys etc...
The tree will be cute until the baby starts chewing on it. Make sure it is not poison when eaten. The wallpaper is beautiful as is the light fixture. Wow!
This is so precious and beautiful! Whimsical while still being fully functional. Knocked it out of the park!!!
The babies room turned out so beautiful. ❤it
WOW 😍 You totally nailed it Alexandra. I absolutely love the 'Cottagecore/Granny' vibe and you made it look so easy to put together. I so want my bedroom to be like this and I thank you for the inspiration!!👏👏👏
I would have continued along the wall with a picture rail in plum to tie into the AC conduit and painted the Dow section in green to completely disguise it.
When I saw this was a nursery makeover, as a grandma of 8, I was like, oh I don’t want to watch that (sorry). However, it’s beautiful and could be any bedroom. Great job team AG! ❤✌️
Very pretty! Gives me Jane with a hint of Tarzan 💜💚 I almost wanted a shelf across that air conditioner tube.
Seriously, I'm 64 years old, and I would love this room for one of my own! An office, a craft room, a study...
Absolutely love this, the only thing I'd have changed is I'd have used a spray adhesive to stick the fabric to the blind, only using hemming tape on the edges of the fabric leaves a large chance for it to come loose or bulge in the center. Absolutely brilliant idea though 😊
Spray adhesive is too toxic for a nursery, though, isn't it?
@@kansasgirl8371 I genuinely don't understand how this would be an issue. If you were to use it in the room with the baby in it with you then yeah, probably a bad idea, but using it to adhere some fabric to a blind when the baby is nowhere near and with ample time to dry and for the room to air out (or ya know, do it outside of the room) then there would be nothing to be concerned by. That's like saying you shouldn't use super glue to fix things when you have kids because it's toxic. I'm genuinely confused by your comment.
I love this so much. Not just for a nursery but for a calming regular room to. The temptation to o my bedroom in this style is so high
It’s lovely and I adore the inspo/practicality/wallpaper/furniture but I just wish the paint colours were slightly different🥲 like a more warm toned olive green maybe, and maybe a slightly darker green instead of the purple? Or else something pink/peach/coral but less dark. Also I feel like it needs curtains! But it is very beautiful regardless
That's a beautiful room
