    Good chat. I would not throw the same disc for both shots personally. Thumbers require an overstable disc to create the barrel roll, tomahawk requires a very understable disc. Also, heavier discs will create a wider barrel than lighter discs.

    Gracias for the tips 😎 ahhh so THATS why my attempted tomahawk over the fig trees yesterday didn’t land straight ahead…I threw it gently because the basket was only like 70 feet in front of me. I should have thrown it harder to get the full flight and controlled distance with angle. Guess it’s just something I’m going to have to practice until I get the feel.

    I rarely use tomahawks or thumbers with full power. Usually it's around 60-70% so it goes straight and then curves towards the end. Great for when the basket is tucked away 25 feet to the left or right of a tunnel. I know one of my friends can actually throw tomahawks farther than backhands. The disc does a 270 degree flip in the air and just glides forever

    Great tutorial. Both shots are definitely for those no other choice I need to find a way out kind of shots. That being said they almost always come in clutch when needed, and depending on how buried you are a mid range or putter can create a different shot shape for the needed route. I used to know a guy who only went by the name scum or pond scum who threw that shot religiously, even for a drive off the tee. He was actually a really nice guy who was always at the course and was fun to play with/watch his crazy throws.

    Thumber I use often to get over or out of trees, and have no issue with. Good out to about 230ft. My tomahawk almost never flips over. It just goes straight up and down like a grenade, often turning into a roller at the end. Never figured out why.

    • @tossingplastic
      @tossingplastic  9 месяцев назад

      Have you tried with a more flippy disc?

    • @subspaceanomaly
      @subspaceanomaly 9 месяцев назад

      you could also throw it at an angle rather like 45 degrees, so more over your head releasing more in line with your left shoulder

    • @daemn42
      @daemn42 9 месяцев назад

      @@subspaceanomaly yeah that's basically a scoob, but you can't generate any serious power throwing over your left shoulder. The issue seems to be one of nose angle so as to expose the top of the disc to the wind in the flight direction as soon as possible to make it flip. That's easy with a thumber, or a scoob, but I find that over my right shoulder it comes out dead straight and flies like a grenade.

    • @subspaceanomaly
      @subspaceanomaly 9 месяцев назад

      @@daemn42 interesting. I come at this as a long time ultimate player, and a good hammer (tomahawk) tends to be released at an 11 o'clock angle, thrown about 45 degrees off target that then flows in an arc. putting the noise angle down a bit air bounces the flight plate so you can play kind of fake out stall shots that make more of an s shape like throwing an anhyzer backhand with an overstable disc. If you throw your tomahawk with day an aviar it should curve and land upside down rather than as a roller. I've not thrown so many over arm shots since taking up disc golf as I fucked my shoulder serving too hard in tennis and ripped my rotator cuff and tendons and it never fully healed. But there must be a way to fix your tomahawk if you're getting power into it, with less stable discs or something. I like throwing big thumbers high with putters and fairways and can replicate/mirror the same throwing tomahawks if I have to. I'm certain you could too with some experimentation unless you have a shoulder problem too.. (in which case, from experience I would say just accept it and try and work around it..horrible injuries to flare up and takes ages to recover..)
