I think you meant "and Michel Legrand" (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michel_Legrand), the pianist who composed the music (note: Alan and Marilyn Bergman wrote these lyrics).

Tony Bennett, 93 yrs old, an American treasure. He rarely talks about being a US Army infantryman on the front lines in Europe in 1945 during the closing months of the war and the push across the Rhine. One of a kind talent and one of the last of the greats of his generation.

completly agree with you ! always been a fan of tony ! unfortunatly he's not very well known here in europe (i'm from France). he's an american treasure for sure, and not only, a jazz / vocalist one too, maybe the last or one of the last "crooner" from the old era still alive on this planet !

@@Martyprod2 I find it fascinating that certain people and films are more popular in some countries than others. For example, Jacques Demy’s “Umbrellas of Cherbourg” is very well known here in America while “Young Girls of Rochefort” which this song is from is hardly talked about here, which is a shame.

@@francisalbertsinatra9120 Hi Ian ! i'm from france, i studied jazz and piano a long time ago (30 years ago) with a pianist who worked for Michel Legrand on their last Jacques Demy's / Michel Legrand Collaboration, "3 places pour le 26" with actress Mathilda May and actor Yves Montand. we can see my teacher playing piano in one of the song in the movie. I have some anecdote about michel, that i can clearly Not tell publically lol.
I don't know if people outside of France started to know michel's work of his most popular songs because of Yentl or because of the nouvel vague era when the parapluie of cherbourg has been out. there was Summer 42 too. It depends on a lot of thing. Even in France, outside of the umbrellas of cherbourg and one or two specific tunes, people don't really know a lot the work of michel. I'm knowing it a bit more because i'm a musician, and studied him a bit but not more than that.

@@Martyprod2 I believe I discovered him watching “Cleo from 5 to 7” by Agnes Varda, who happened to be Jacques Demy’s wife. This was last October. Now “Young Girls of Rochefort” is my favorite musical and Legrand is probably my second favorite film composer besides John Williams himself. I love him as a jazz musician as well. I’m sure those Michel Legrand stories are very amusing.
