    How attentive , gracious and brilliant the great Legrand is following the orchestration of the great composer John Williams -between the both of them , who have probably written hundreds and hundreds of magnificent scores -2 giants of the music world on that same stage Legrand and Williams wish I could have been at this incredible concert.

    Legrand's masterpiece is outstanding... and his arrengements just equally incredible. What a tragedy his best score ever was lost in a fire and never saw the light of day in a proper underscore release. I only hope the 40th anniv. edition we're gonna get in 15 days from now includes the AMAZING end titles suite from the movie. Williams and Legrand, what a treasure!

      Hi , are you talking about the universal fire ? didn't know the yentl masters were among the victims :( . speaking about "the best", it's always a matter of opinion. my mother was listening to the yentl vynil in loop in the 80's, after seeing the movie in theater. so even if as a musician, i can clearly accept the fact (lol) that it's a fabulous soundtrack, because of the "loop" effect, it's clearly not my favorite ;)... (i don't have a fav soundtrack from Mr Legrand, but love tunes from here and there, from different movies and Tv release).

      as a fun story, (i'm the owner of this channel), I studied jazz piano with the rehearsal session pianist of michel legrand on a movie that michel scored called "3 places pour le 26", featuring yves montand (original singer of the autumn leaves song). the movie was featuring as well Mhatilda May, an actress who can be seen in the funny/awful movie Life force :D.

  • @organboi

    Correction: Only one true composer here, and that's Michel Legrand. Williams was merely a copy cat of post romantic composers that came before him. Legrand was a true original.

      @Martyprod2  8 лет назад +3

      +organboi lol !!! ....

    • @jsphotos
      @jsphotos 8 лет назад

      +organboi Agree completely. Williams is NOT an original composer;most of his music is derivative and has a *sameness* that is really, really boring!

    • @Martyprod2
      @Martyprod2  8 лет назад +4

      +jsphotos the amount of **** censured **** comments told on all of williams music i posted here is very impressive. each day i'm impressed by how far some people can go in the negative and non objectivity by telling .... whatever... the lack of knowledge expressed is very impressive.
      you think that legrand is true original ? how do you think he learned music ? (i studied piano with one of Michel Legrand's pianist).
      Music is about copying, and transforming, improving the learning to something else. it's all about copy, and inspiration and that since the beginning. without the ability to be inspired by someone else from the past, music would just not exist.
      the amount of wrong notes Michel can miss while playing in concert or on TV can be pretty big.
      guys, i don't know where you come from, or what you know in music, but your both comments are ... well, just re-read yourselves ...

    • @jsphotos
      @jsphotos 8 лет назад +1

      +martyprod2 I'm a musician and was involved for many years in the music industry. Sure,ALL music is derivative, but how many people go around humming a John Williams tune? Williams is a good film composer, but he made that reputation by composing for blockbuster movies. Compared to someone like Ennio Morricone, Williams doesn't hold a candle.
      Music IS subjective, but I find a very distinct *sameness* to Williams' compositions. I don't deny he's a great film composer, but he's far from the greatest! For instance, he's not even in the same class as Herrmann, or Korngold as a composer.

    • @Martyprod2
      @Martyprod2  8 лет назад +8

      +jsphotos I suggest you to remember who was sat next to Mr Morriconne at the Oscars, and who Ennio thanked...
      at this level of music it's not anymore a matter of who is the best or not, just taste and a matter of opinions.
      Telling that Ennio is better than Williams (or the reverse) is like telling that Apple is better than Banana, that Herbie is better than chick or Mc Coy, or Bill is the best and the others are beginner etc .... just a matter of taste and opinions, absolutly impossible to be objective at this level of musicianship.
      you tell music is subjective but it seems you don't beleive in what you tell.
      i'm impressed that you didn't told the usual cliché that Williams stole everything from Korngold. at least, you didn't told it. one point for you for this !
