OSCAR PETERSON, is god tier on the piano. How he remembers all of those intricate rifts, chords, progressions, inversions, and key changes is beyond me. And at any speed and tempo. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Just noticed the way that Michel Legrand is looking at Oscar Peterson like an admiring puppy ! Fantastic - the admiration of one world class musician for another !
You're right, I noticed it too. Michel departed this morning in Paris France. He was 86. Our national radio station, France Musique, is doing an hommage to him all day today. He was a monument in himself. As to Oscar, my God, words don't suffice . All the best from France.
Two geniuses displaying unbelievable talent all at once. This one of Legrand best and prettiest songs and no two could ever do it better. RIP both of you and know you are gone but not forgotten.
I've always admired Legrand's genius as a composer, but am slightly embarrassed to admit that I had no idea his piano chops - JAZZ piano chops - were at this level. Playing with Peterson, and holding his own. Respect.
Michel, that I got the chance to know personally, was a tremendous jazz pianist. He was completely inhabited by something divine when he was playing. I am working for 7 years on a documentary on him that should be released for the big screen at the end of the year in France.
pure class.the look on michels face when oscars playing says it all.i sense real love between everybody here.n.h.o.p my hero.our own mighty world class martin drew.wonderful stuff.
What a video, wow. I'll treasure this forever. RIP MASTERS (in big letters) and thank you for leaving this to us who still love and appreciate what you did.
Nice to see a bunch of musicians just playing and enjoying themselves...no funny faces ...no funny dress ...just straight talent and love of what they are doing.
have ADORED Michel LeGrand since I first heard Brian's Song and Summer of '42 soundtracks in the 70s as a teenager.... saw him play with the Charlotte Symphony in 1986 & sat there with tears in my eyes, it was so moving and beautiful...
Absolutely the world has lost both these genius musicians, but you can hear and sense the joy and enthusiasm they have for their music and sense of enjoyment of their joint unmatchable performance.
This is what makes RUclips great! Wonderful to listen to the music but to see them play together does add to the appreciation - wow, they really just did that! Put them together and Watch What Happens (couldn't resist).
I definitely agree this a jewel in the crown of two great musicians. This is what I love about RUclips all this great music and other knowledge and the list is endless. Thanks for sharing this amazing concert. 💗💗
absolutely astonishing. There are times during this that I cannot help but giggle and laugh in admiration at the talent on show. Thank you all gentlemen !
Went to a concert in Mpls, Mn . years ago , VERY large sell out at Orchestra Hall in Downtown Mpls. Worried I would not get a seat . The ushers set up some chairs on the STAGE ! Well never to forget concert , just feet from Oscar & seeing the keyboard ! Looking out into the audiance & here I am Right next to Mr. Oscar Peterson ! ! !
This is a classic performance by 2 masters of the piano. We should also make a strong note that recognizes the superb talents of bassist Niels Henning Orsted Pederson and drummer Martin Drew who along with Joe Pass made some very outstanding performances with Oscar. Thank you for sharing.
I watched Oscar, Niels and Martin along with Ulf Wakenius in guitar when they performed here in Buenos Aires. However Oscar came with his left hand affected by the stroke he had sometime ago. Anyhow the emotion was great.
Your compositions and your playing have made my heart sing since I was a 5yo child. My parents were fans especially my Dad, thanks to them. Thank you Michel. RIP
I remember seeing this on TV in the UK some years after it had first been broadcast. Just gorgeous. Of the three, Oscar Peterson is the only one I ever heard live, also in 1984. Love the way composer of the tune Michel Legrand looks over in awe at what Oscar Peterson does with the piece. Great to see and thanks for posting this.
Looking thru the list of comments its so nice to see that there are people like me who appreciate the talent of these two pianists...not forgetting the bass and drums that provide the vehicle for lead instruments to ride on....just be yourself Jim Paterson i like your comment.....
I may have said it before, but the frisson I always feel when Legrand picks up from Peterson's elegant meditation and the rhythm section comes in simply divine. Someone previously asked, 'is this what Heaven is like'? I very much hope so.

Two fantastic piano musicians from two different countries, playing perfectly together and really enjoying their time together. I love both of them. SYLVIA! FL 10 19 2020
The Genius of Oscar Peterson is particularly to be heard starting 2:57 | Mind blowing succession of chords to say the least leaving soloist Bolling and Legrand in the dust...
So gorgeous .. Thanks so much for this treasure .. I love the overhead first shot of Oscar and his hands moving over the keyboard. So much musical love between them ...
Just great jazz !
The impression I had after watching carefully, is like a master and his piano lessons pupil. Michel Legrand is a great composer, fantastic, but here, the pianist is Oscar Peterson. Oscar transcends everything Michel thought about his own music. Look how Peterson plays with the harmony at the final of the theme presentation. My goodness ! What I have done to see on the same stage Oscar Peterson and Bill Evans, or Chick Corea... 🎷🙏🙏👍❤️❤️
This was in the mid 80’s. Oscar Peterson was 60 yrs. old and did some of his best playing. Michel Legrand, probably one of the best composers and no slouch on piano! This swings so hard, no strobe lights or smoke, definitely fireworks in the performance!! Martin Drew and NHOP more than pull their weight, love the way they trade 8’s and still keep it swinging! Gone, but never forgotten.
Awesome!!! Missing these talented persons. Thankfully we have the recordings and video to cherish their greatness. Much love fans and all good things!!!!!! HEY Bayne Bacon you seeing this...swinging!!!!
Although I'm getting on a bit now,I've finally "mastered" Watch what happens. After hearing Oscar's version,I feel like giving up.....the man is pure genius. If I lived to be 100,I would still be in awe at the "master".One disgruntled 66 year old....lol
omg, that's just beautiful! imagine nowadays, "they" (not them, new artist maybe) would record a 15-second lick and we would lose this fantastic play! music is essential for our lives, and music is minutes long. That's for sure!
I had a mind-blowing grandmother whose thoughts could send your mind into orbit for days. She once said "People are dying to live instead of living to live." She reckoned the heaven we're living in was no slouch compared to anything the afterlife might possibly offer up. The short of it is to enjoy the one you're in while you can -- just in case.
Oscar's LEFT HAND matching his right hand runs is 1 amazing reason he and Mr. Art Tatum are the 2 greatest piano players to have ever graced this planet! I believe Mr. Peterson is 60 years old in this video! Kudos also to some stellar stand up base!
Wow!!! Oscar Peterson was Simply. An utter genius are not a genius. But Michelle Legend was also an incredible jazz pianist!!, not to mention an unbelievable composer!! I miss them both dearly!!!
Moving now, oh yes. Real music by The Master : Oscar Peterson. Michel Legend. Don't you like comments where people like me, jut want to dance and not worry about putting some smart, deep insightful new words on here. Vibes are tremendous today. Enjoy life now.
Jazz doesn't get any better than this.

Sandy.. a meld of musical masters, I agree the ultimate of world class.
'Just saw this duet on Michelle's "Watch What Happens" for 1st time & was Elated to see their admiration for one another !!
I agree. I noticed this too. It was so beautiful. What divine magic.
Le mot " chiot " est , je pense inapproprié...........isn' it ........😊 blessant.😢
Two geniuses displaying unbelievable talent all at once. This one of Legrand best and prettiest songs and no two could ever do it better. RIP both of you and know you are gone but not forgotten.
A polished performance from Oscar with the brilliant composer in attendance and playing
Unfortunately Legrand was outsmarted by Oscar Peterson's style of playing with depth and ingenuity.
You can tell Michel Legrand is absolutely blown away when Oscar starts to play. Oscar completely transcends the music.
magnifique
Shit legrand much better
Two of the greatest pianists ever - BUT, Niels-Henning went BEAST MODE on that bass solo!!!
Sh#$%t the f#$$%up with your beast mode..fool

Two giants on the stage at the same time. Will we ever see the likes of them again?
Nice to see a bunch of musicians just playing and enjoying themselves...no funny faces ...no funny dress ...just straight talent and love of what they are doing.
Four of the best ones in their art and skills!
have ADORED Michel LeGrand since I first heard Brian's Song and Summer of '42 soundtracks in the 70s as a teenager.... saw him play with the Charlotte Symphony in 1986 & sat there with tears in my eyes, it was so moving and beautiful... It's 2 Musical giants who truly appreciate One another.....
Absolutely the world has lost both these genius musicians, but you can hear and sense the joy and enthusiasm they have for their music and sense of enjoyment of their joint unmatchable performance.

BENDICIONES PARA SU FAMILIA. UN ABRAZO DESDE CHILE.
Michel showed his awesome talent here with wonderful improvisations.
WOW!! Union of two geniuses, feel like I died and went to heaven,

it's like watching and hearing something approaching a miracle...that level of brilliance and beauty must be G-d - given

Magnificent artistry all around.

!! Superbe Jazz-Blues.. !!!!
Michel Legrand les moulins de mon coeur
Playing with Oscar was like a suicide mission for another pianist. It took a lot of courage - so kudos to Legrand.
What a blessing to have this playing! That touch is unforgettable!
GENIO MUSICAL. UN DELEITE REGALO PARA NUESTRA VIDA. GRACIAS DON MICHEL LEGRAND.
Seriously...holy shit! They're all unbelievable!
Bravo Michel ! Superbe Oscar.......merci Claude !

Superb conversation they’ve got!
Great musicians! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

You could study piano for 100 years, eight hours a day, and still not achieve the level of genius both of these men had! Just unbelievable!!

Omg, Oscar Peterson followed Michel Legrand with such precision @ touching! I didn't even notice when he did start to play.

I like it so much....the eyes and asking great Oscar and great Michel that did all for good music
The look on Michel's face at 1:44 speaks volumes. Wonderful stuff all round.

World class musicians performing to perfection! (The piano arrangement of the beguiling Recit de Cassard was particularly inventive and expressive.)
