This was the song that was playing when I was born and my father held me for the first time… we danced to it at my wedding. Now that he’s passed I listen to it and imagine he’s listening in heaven. ❤
Picture it: 1997. Secret Samadhi comes out. A super awkward, 13-year-old me hears and loves this song. My dad has since taken me to my first (and every) Live show. I tell him, someday, this will be our father-daughter dance at my wedding. At 36, I am finally getting my wish. My wedding is 8/15/2020 and this will be the father-daughter dance. With my dad's blessing. I asked him while we were tailgating before seeing Live, Bush, and Our Lady Peace in 2019. **EDIT** we have postponed our wedding to 2021 due to COVID but will hopefully have the day we planned and dreamed, complete with my father-daughter dance. Also, when my fiance and I started talking, I asked him his favorite band. When he said Live, it was sign #1 that he was the one. I hadn't even met him in person yet. I've taken him to see Live twice since we've known each other and we've rocked out to our favorite music together. A couple that rocks out together stays together. 2021 UPDATE: I got my dance with my dad on 8/14/2021. When the song came on , it brought a tear to both of our eyes. For many reasons, but we loved the moment we had together on my most special day. It was honestly everything I hoped it would be back in 1997.
Aside from Daniel Johns of Silverchair, I can’t think of anyone else who can transition so perfectly between a raspy vocal and a falsetto, and back again. Amazing.
No album sales money killed the money publishers used to scout and develop rock bands. The only money now is in pop and rap targeted at teenagers with short attention spans - with some exceptions who are earning solely through touring. Publishers used to shower young and unrefined rock bands with money and studio time, to develop their talents and experiment. That's gone. We pirated it all away.
Taystation I agree. That and there are music contests on TV for the past 18 years that people think that by winning a contest that is how you get discovered. Used to be someone would see a band in a bar and give them a chance but not anymore. Now its a kid singing a hit by someone else trying to sound like that singer. I'm thinking that is nice for karaoke but where is your voice at?
It's 2024 and i still listen to Live EVERY NIGHT when I cook and clean. Like it's the first time I've ever heard the album. And every night, every song, i have a different interpretation of what every single song means to me personally. My personal favorite song and video is Dolphins Cry. It must be a curse for Ed to be this brilliant in music. To have your lyrics interpreted in so many ways but still stand the test of time for anyone that can truly hear it.
If I can get someone to take it I will load it on my RUclips account. It's on my back out of reach and so high up that I'd have lift a shirt too high for a mirror shot. I may have one on Facebook, I'll take a look.

One of my best friends, an old buddy since middle school some 20+ years ago, we get together once a year around Christmas time and go driving down all the back roads we used to drive on in high school, drink beers, and listen to music. Well, last time he played a lot of Live and when this song came on he told me this really sentimental story about how it was the song of him and his wife... How he was listening to this song at work one day and literally turned his head and saw her for the first time. I'll never forget the look in his eyes or the reverence in his voice as he told it. The whole song is just too well crafted. The music and the lyrics just amplifying each other.
