Yes. Yes I am.
This song just struck me today. Had to listen
Yup!! Forgot this song existed!! Love it!!
My husband loved this song. We used to take a yearly vacation on a houseboat with friends. The last vacation, he played this album/song over and over for 7 days. We were ready to steal it from him. He died a sudden and unexpected death at the age of 40. It took me YEARS to listen to it without crying. I no longer cry when I hear it. I now see him with that beer in his hand, in his wakeboard shorts, standing on the roof of that houseboat, living and LOVING his life and all that was surrounding him. Though his life was short, he probably lived more in those 40 years than most people do in a lifetime. And THAT is what immediately comes to mind when I hear this song.......along with a huge smile on my face and with so much gratitude that he was in my life. He was one hell of a good human being and I say that not because I was his wife. I say it because the world lost a very good soul the day he died. As I sit here and listen to it now, it occurs to me how much this song applies to my story. The circle of life....One dies and another is born. I hold on to the fact that when he took his last breath, he knew how very much he was loved. I wish that for everyone. Thank you for allowing me to share this most treasured memory.
That's sad. I'm sorry for your loss

throwback to when MTV still played music videos
Went to a rehab where we had a tv in the room and were able to play mtv in the mornings when we got ready for the shuffle and it helped a ton
This came long after they stopped being Music TV and became reality TV crap... I was still young when MTV started and I'm tot old to give a F anymore.. IJS...

I am 71 and just found this song!! Where the hell was I when it came out?? I play it daily...love it!!!!!
Don't worry. I'm 46 and every day discover "new bands" 😂
This song didn't get any airplay on my radio station until around the late 2000s. Not sure why I didn't hear it before then, and my town isn't behind the times, either.
A performer/song I recently found : Weyes Blood - A Given Thing. Lower register voice, very strong, beautiful. Karen Carpenter like. Hope you don’t mind me sharing, just enjoyed your comment.
You were busy making a living when this song came out.

You made me think of my Mom. May both of them rest in peace, until we see them again.💔💔
But hello new baby girl with your mom's soul. The circle complete...

I also saw them with BUSH at Woodstock amphitheatre a few years back and they stole the show.
Still have it for sure.
Still in my everyday playlist for 10 years
The 90s may be the greatest decade of introspective music ever. If I had only one decade of music to choose to hear until my demise the 90s gets the nod, and I'm old enough to have enjoyed the 60s, 70s, and 80s.
I agree, and I too would choose the 90's as well. I think however that the 60's was pretty introspective as well.
80s were better but the 90s were a badass second place. In some aspects maybe better
Music was made in the era of this song that just has no rival before or after. For some reason this particular period elicited some of the greatest music and the most unique music ever made. Not to mention it's extremely listenable
70's.
@@nonheinousanus6817 True, but the 60s was heavy on political turmoil - civil rights, Vietnam, political assassinations, college campus upheaval, hair rebellion, etc.

The emotion behind this song in undeniable. Such rich and raw talent back in the 90s. I would do anything to be back in that place when I first heard this song. Todays music will never touch the 90s decade.

💯 agree!
And there were avenues available for their creativity. Such tremendous creativity and emotion delivered to us in the 90s for bands. Now it's so packaged and sterile. Sell-out or disappear.

"The confusion sets in before the doctor can even close the door..." Flashback to August '96. My dad just passed away unexpectedly. I can't go back to the house and deal with people after his funeral so I go to the city park and just park my car. It's raining. It's cold. I'm alone with my thoughts. This song was playing on the radio. That's when it hit me and I finally broke down and let it all out. 27 years later and I'm still listening to this song as I miss him.

One of my mom’s favorite songs. Passed away in 97’, two days after my 8th birthday. I miss you everyday, every minute, every second, all the time.
This was my dad's favourite band. He died from cancer two years ago and since then I've avoided listening to them as much as possible, but sometimes I just do it, and I open myself up to all the pain of that loss, because even though he's gone I can somehow feel close to him this way. I miss you so much dad, and I won't ever be able to accept that I have the rest of my life to go without you. I wish I could see you and hug you one more time. I love you always dad.

I remember the very spot I was standing when I heard this timeless classic…
Songs are milestones in our lives and we live this beautiful journey thru the emotions they imprint inside us.
I think we all have those special 5 or 6 songs we will take into the next life..
Just had to say, I randomly thought of this song today, and I remember exactly where I was when I heard this song. I remembered exactly what problems I was going through in life and in what phase. I just love that about good music and how the brain and soul make those connections so quickly
What landed me here to re-listen. I love your sentiment of taking a few songs with us into the next life. This world def be one of mine. Peace ✌️
This song gives me goosebumps everytime I listen to it. The 3rd chorus repeat after the breakdown when the guitar hits that high note and the vocal melody goes into a higher pitch. Every single time since I was about 10. I am not kidding. Everytime I hear that part and the tension building up to it, I get gigantic goosebumps and this wave rushes over me. No other song in the world does this for me. There is just something magical here.
What an awesome experience and description of the song

I shared a room with my brother growing up. He turned me onto a lot of music I still listen too today. He had a live shirt he got suspended from school for wearing. He passed away from cancer three years ago. I miss him so much. Anytime I hear underrated bands like this that he got me listening to I get emotional. I talk about him often to keep his spirit aLIVE. If kids today could understand the true meaning of music, society might be a better place.
My sincerest condolences, friend.
I know he's at eternal peace in a Paradise words couldn't describe.🕯
The 90's was just a great time for music. Just an explosion of talent. So much honesty and emotion in a lot of the music. So many artists did it because they had something they needed to express instead of trying to write a cool song to make a buck. That emotion is the difference between good music and bad music.
Well said
so true! was much needed.....
yesss jamie! 100% true
A new style of Rock and Roll called Grunge, same presents different wrapper. But I will say the 80's were full "just make a buck bands" but the was the 80's everyone was trying and making bucks. There were many good even great bands in the 80's however, you just had to use your nonsense filter to see them lol

Dear person whoever reads this,
Hey, you, yes, I am talking right to you. I hope you will see yourself with the eyes I see you one day, because I can tell you have some awesome music taste :) You’re such a beautiful human being and worth and enough. I hope you know that you do only need yourself to be happy, I know society build up the standard that whenever you’re alone you’re not living a happy live. But in fact that is not true, if you start to realize that you actually deserve all the good things happening to you, you will treat yourself a lot nicer. I hope you let yourself rest, don’t beat yourself up over past mistakes, over regret, and over everything your mind wants to destroy you. I wish I could remove all those demons inside of your head because you deserve to feel happy. If you ever feel lonely then watch the sky, because you know, someone, at the same time is watching the sky too, maybe feeling the same way..I am glad you exist and I hope you won’t ever remove your own spot in this world, maybe you don’t feel like you belong here but, Angel, then build your home here. I don’t want you to leave this world unhappy. I want you to live every little second, I want you to feel alive, I don’t want you to see yourself just existing. You deserve it. Whatever happened, it’s not your fault, the demons in your head recognize that you have a beautiful heart, they want to take it because they have never seen such beautiful heart as yours, so why let them win over you? . You’re not selfish for isolating yourself, but you deserve to talk to someone. If you’re reading this than please never forget to breath and smile.
Don’t live up to other standards! It’s your story and not theirs.
Life for those who couldn’t, smile for those who forgot what a genuine smile is, love like there’s no other, hug like its your last one.
I love you and send you hugs.
You’re so strong, you’re still here, and I am proud of you.
YOU ARE NOT USELESS. READ THAT AGAIN.
YOU ARE WORTH IT. READ THAT AGAIN.
YOU ARE LOVED. READ THAT AGAIN.
I AM GLAD YOU EXIST. READ THAT AGAIN.
YOU ARE NOT A PROBLEM. YOU ARE HUMAN AND YOUR FEELINGS ARE VALID. READ THAT AGAIN.
YOU ARE NOT BEING DRAMATIC.
You’re not a burden to anyone, don’t be afraid to talk, to use your voice.
I WISH I COULD HUG YOU RIGHT NOW, SO A VIRTUAL HUG WILL DO.
😢
May all your enemies fall from your presence in trembling fear.

I took it to a different place. For me, it doesn't focus on death to life only, instead it's about change from old to new. When the lightning crashes, a New Beginning starts. I'll replay when a change happens in my life, loudly and usually as a celebration of the change, a reminder of what was and will be, a recharge into the new, better. Many of us wish when we die, a start of a new beginning. We can die from more than our bodies going still. Always a New Beginning, when Lightning Crashes. Make it crash!
I'm not at all a fan of 90's music, (I was born in 70), but I still listen to this song at least 2 or 3 times a week and get shivers up my spine each and every time.

Excellent description of what I have always thought about this song.
Absolute masterpiece. "Her intentions fall to the floor" is one of those lines that has stuck with me through the years.
Lead singer Ed Kowalczyk said, "I wrote 'Lightning Crashes' on an acoustic guitar in my brother's bedroom shortly before I had moved out of my parents' house and gotten my first place of my own." Kowalczyk says that the video for "Lightning Crashes" has caused misinterpretations of the song's intent. While the clip is shot in a home environment, I envisioned it taking place in a hospital, where all these simultaneous deaths and births are going on, one family mourning the loss of a woman while a screaming baby emerges from a young mother in another room. Nobody's dying in the act of childbirth, as some viewers think. What you're seeing is actually a happy ending based on a kind of transference of life.[5]
This song came on after my daughter had a stillborn son. The heartbreak was so intense..he was 2 weeks from being born..my daughter had diabetes and her sugars went to high the baby died.
My first grandson was born looking like a angel. Almost lost my daughter with him.
@@kathymyers3092 I’m so sorry. Grief is a horrible emotion. I lost my daughter five years ago.
@@kathymyers3092 I'm so sorry to hear this. I'm so glad your daughter is still with you. I can't imagine the depth of the shock and grief of your daughter and your grief and fear of losing her and the grief of all those missing this unborn child.
My brother lost his mind due to street drug use and mental illness, killed his best friend, then committed suicide in 1996. I was 20. He was 22. I'm in my 40s now. The family of the young man killed by my brother knew my brother was not in his right mind and showed grace toward my family even in their grief. My mom cried for days.
A mom losing a child is about the deepest depth of human grief a human can experience, according to my psychologist years after my brother's death.
This song Lightning Crashes reminds me of my brother. I don't remember why exactly. I think one reason is he just liked this band called Live.
Another commonality between my story and yours is my brother had diabetes.
He would sometimes go into diabetic shock when he was younger when his blood sugar would get messed up. He hated having to stab his leg with an insulin needle every day. And he hated pricking his fingers to test his blood sugar.
I can't imagine your daughter's grief of finding out her unborn child is dead before birth. All that time waiting and planning and dreaming for your soon to be born child and having the dreams for the child's future ripped away and a hole cut through your heart at the end. I'm so so sorry. My sincere condolences for the mom and family of this lost child.
I hope this comment does no harm and only let's you know other folks hate this happened to you and especially to your daughter. We wish nothing but joy and hope and comfort for the future.
I worry that when life gets that dark, the folks who are grieving may not want to hear about God. But I just want you to know my hope is that God will turn these unspeakably dark circumstances in your daughter's life and in your life into something beautiful one day, even if it's just letting those who are suffering know they are not alone, and that you have suffered too, and that you made it through by God's grace.
@@nursedk1 My condolences Donna. So sorry to hear this.
@@DavidMichaelHarveyLLC Thank you. I’m sorry to hear about the tragedy surrounding your brother. I hope you are now in a place of healing. It must have been difficult to see your mother grieve. I also think that when a mother loses her child, it is the deepest, darkest, most devastating pain that she could endure and hopefully will ever have to endure. I found myself angry with God for a time, but eventually realized He kept me strong through my daughter’s illness and death. I still look to Him for my comfort and strength. Thank you for replying. It’s nice to hear caring words in these trying times.

@@bluesow thank you from the bottom of my heart sister! God is near the brokenhearted and has never and will never leave me,hes enduring my suffering with me but his word promises that my mourning will be turned into Joy and hes working even when I dont see it or feel it!
Both of my folks died in 1990. The Lord became my dad and mom just like it says in Psalm 42. May He keep you going with His Love and Grace.
I choke on tears every single time I indulge in this song. Sometimes I don't even know why. It just pulls on my strings on the inside in a way I can't describe. Thank you for this gift.
It's a powerful song
I have the same reaction when I listen to this song. It's an indescribable feeling.
me too!! Very powerful song
Good to know I'm not the only one sniffling.
Kindred Spirits 🖤
I am a child of the 70s and early 80s, but 90s music holds its own with any decade
I was 18 when this music came out, and I didn't realize I was living in the early stages of a remarkable era in rock. I wish I had paid more attention back then, but at least I can appreciate it now.
so happy, i grew up with music like this. Miss this time...
hexe77100 he didn't write the first part my mother did
great mother. Thank you!!!
hexe77100 you no it bro
powerful song. im glad you could use it to help
hexe77100 nah bro
80's and 90's music...there will NEVER be another to compare.
🤘❤️🔥🤘
I like 80's, 90's, and 2000's. But out of those 3 decades the last one is the worst.
No comparison. Last 2 best decades of music & we were lucky to hear it all 💞
I can't take 98% of today's music & I like to think I'm open minded. Lyrics are repetitive and unimaginative. It's all about the sound. Sounds can make good music but lyrics is what makes it great!
I I it get be
Rubbish. Heaps of great music coming out all the time. Don’t get stuck in a rut.
I grew up with this song, but only now understand the depth of it.
Another deep song is , Children by the mavericks
@@chadthechad4365 I'll check it out
I'm 37 my Dad was rocking this.... Underappreciated to say the least ....he bought us all the cassettes as kids and tweens.
Ah, the 90's. The last decade of great music. I used to see this come on MTV all the damn time!.......you know, when they used to play music.
The last decade when great music could achieve mass exposure. It's still being made - but you have to look for it.
JoJo McJoJo So true!!!!
gr8latino i like your subtlety, but JoJo has a point there are thousands of songs while branching even here on RUclips that ive found that do justice, have you tried Alter Bridge???
scott keeping I love Alter Bridge's new album, "Fortress." Such good music. Definitely one of the best albums, or maybe the best album to come out in 2013. Its too bad that kind of rock gets very little to no exposure anymore. The only reason I know about Alter Bridge is because of Eddie Trunk's radio show which is only on Friday nights really late at night. Alter Bridge definitely blew my mind last year when I first heard their music. They might be the best modern rock band out there right now at the moment.
scott keeping alter bridge is awesome listen to calm the fire awesome
To me,this song is a tribute to every single woman out there who knows the the fear, exhilaration and amazing beauty of what it means to experience motherhood

I'm a 40 year old man and this song always make me cry.
Rest in Peace to Barbara Lewis, to whom this song was dedicated to. 🕊️
If you're referring to the singer Barbara Lewis, She's still alive
@@andrewclawson550 no, not the singer. The person I’m talking about was a longtime friend of the band before she passed a way.
I had a stillborn baby in 1995, the same year this song became super popular. I always felt like it was written and sang for me...
💜
I thought this song was about abortion. But I could see and hear could be about stillborn. It's still deep.
My body my choice didn't apply to the non effective killer Rona vaccine. How ironic.
I always loved this song... My son was born oct 29, 2009, my mom got to see him born... June 28, 2010 my mom passed from stage 4 lung cancer at the age of 50... This song has true meaning for me now... So I understand... Truly sorry for your loss. I can't even imagine that kind of heartache. ♥️♥️

One of the most haunting songs that you can't not listen to. ❤
Another hauntingly beautiful song is Shakespears Sister - Stay.
I first heard this song when I was 15 - I'm 37 now. After all these years, this song still makes me want to simultaneously cry and sing my heart out. It's a masterpiece.
8/27/84. me too
Same feeling here
Weird! I first heard this song when I was 37. And it still leaves me in awe!
This is the song I almost got divorced to. Thank god I tossed her the ring and walked away.
9/23/84 me too
My mother passed two years ago and this one of her favorite songs aside from Zombie from cranberries 😢❤
I love it who’s watching. In 24. ?
Me. One of my all- time favorites.
I love the way this song builds. The mix is haunting. This is Rock stripped down to it's core. Live has really captured the emotion of life and death. That's all I have.
+Rob Glen ..Amen to that!
+Rob Glen You are right in all aspects Sir Glen. One guitar starts sounds like a phase shifter, 2nd guitar comes in with what souds like a flanger, then the bass comes in with the drums then the guitars go into distortion mode at the same time as a the harmony comes in and crescendo which is a graduate increase of intensity, kicks it to the end. And yeah, the song seems to sound like a mother giving birth and the mother dies and the child lives, circle of life. But that is not what it is about. It is closer to me. They, especially Ed who wrote the song, had a high school friend who was killed by a drunk driver. My love was killed by a drunk driver. The new life that is talked about is because their friend Barbara donated all her organs etc... which would help with new life and save others. It is an intense song because of the feel of it and the increase power it has. This is just my opinion, just a dumb musician myself. Check out some of my songs if you want. Go to my Facebook page, under More/Videos and you can hear my music. Does not compare to Live, but I am not shabby either. ED KOWALCZYK is a deep thinker when it comes to lyrics and meanings. Rock On ~Fox
Very nicely said. When the song plays you, as opposed to the other way around, like Cs Fox says, it does take away all the superfluous interference (which is a fancy term for bullshit) that we have come to accept as what a song is supposed to be. I don't hear this song, I feel it. She died, just that quick.
One of the most intense bands ever
Amen
I love how the most replayed moment is the first second which means all of you wonderful people are also listening to this beautiful melody on repeat 🫡
Anyone else get goosebumps when listening to this?
Shokeyy every. Fucking. Time.
Ditto
Me too
I won't say I get goosebumps, but my head moves with the drums. Great moving song

Spot-on. He literally pulls you into his orbit from the sheer gravitational forces times its acceleration with Mass, ( = ) equaling that linear/ Scalar quantity we come to know as weight. The same quantity that curves Space-Time...
@@gmeapetomoon7453 for me, it makes crying, and the pain that led to it, more tolerable. It’s really about three complex Harmonics, in brief integration- aka, Waveform’s. Every stitch of matter visible, or non-visible, has its own unique signature, the aggregate of which constitutes reality itself on the physical plane.
My grandmother's spirit is with me every time I listen to this song💚
This song came out 5 years after my infant daughter died. This song tore me up then. Decades later, it has become our anthem. Her way of whispering, that she is still here in Spirit.🙏💝 Thanks for one of the best songs ever.
Sorry
As a donor father, i feel your pain. They say that time heals all wounds, its just that when you lose a child, one lifetime is not enough time. God bless your family.
@@javierluna56 There is not a book written, a class taught, a sermon preached, that could ever prepare a parent to stand at their child's graveside. Though it's been 3 decades, it was yesterday in my heart. God bless you, and your family, Javier. Just know, your Guardian Angel is by your side each day.

Love this song
"I can feel it" is one of the greatest lines in rock music: the delivery is brimming with genuine emotion.
It's that genuine emotion that really makes a song something special. I still get overwhelmed with empathy when I hear "A Place For My Head" by Linkin Park. When Chester gets to "You try to take the best of me. Go away!", he screams into that mic like the those who hurt him in the past are standing right in front of him. Such an amazing person we lost.
Shake Thant bottle 😊
@@GammaSierra 💯🔥I'm so thankful I got to see him in concert sing that🙌

Why can't we have glorious, meaningful Rock songs like this on the mainstream radio nowadays?
you can if you pick the right stations to listen to
I heard this on the radio August 5th 2018 and here I am
Anyone who says rock is still the same is wrong. Rock died a long time ago with Live and STP and the list goes on. This song holds a candle with me for sure being a 90's kid.
I heard this song on my areas only rock station just today. Love when it comes on :)
It takes me hours and days of music binging but every now and then ya run across a new gem, but it's rare they end up on the radio main stream

"Outer Range" season 2 brought me back here.
Same I wanted to look at the comments to see if there were other people that came for the same reason.
This masterpiece is 30 this year.
First time I ever heard this song I was about 6 years old, it was right after my great grandmas funeral in the car on the way home & it was pouring down rain......that memory has always stuck with me, great fucking song.
This comment really got to me... It's crazy how we can associate songs with memories.
+Ben Mawyer I believe that the songs gets a tight grip on the memories of our youth and that's where they will be safely kept until the end of our days. If you think about it, it's the songs of our youth that open the floodgates and the memories pour out. It's an incredible gift music gives us.
+Ben Mawyer Sure is you took the thoughts right from my mouth
My mom loved this song and it came on in the car right after her funeral...fly high MOMMY

Sorry for your loss. It can be a sad song in a way.
Before, singing this song is like nothing, but now it hits differently. matured me.
REM fan transplanted from across the pond. Love listening to American music that never made it big in Europe. It's like reliving my youth but with less college gigs and a better appreciation of vocals and lyrics. Love this song.
I do NOT know why this song NEVER made it into the #1 spot.
I can only guess of the sadness it brings.
We all go through sadness --
My heart still bleeds for what I and others have lost.
This has to be the most amazing and beautiful song ever written. The lead singer has an incredible voice.
