  • It was time for another ride - an overnighter to Tumut where we discovered a most amazing ride - another one to add to your bucket list. This time we shared the pleasure with David Powell and Renee Fraser.
    We follow Open Gate Photography who recently posted some beautiful photos of an area outside Boorowa. So this became our starting point - we left home at 8am on a chilly Saturday morning, and with David & Renee rode to Grabben Gullen, Wheeo and on to Boorowa where we stopped for a coffee before the main part of the ride - and that main part turned out to be amazing!
    From Boorowa we headed for Galong and then on to Copperbella Rd which is a fantastic scenic gravel road, featuring rolling mountains, beautiful valleys, plenty of livestock and heaps of gates to open and close. It takes you all the way to the Hume which we rested on for about 10km before a short break at Jugiong.
    From there we continued on more beautiful riding beside the Murrumbidgee River initially along a ridge, then through valleys and on towards Adjungbilly. First it was Bundarbo Rd and then Nanangroe Rd again providing plenty of variety - they were amazing with continually changing landscapes and surfaces. The biggest question now would be which of these two sections (before or after Jugiong) was the best?
    We eventually reached Wee Jasper Road which has had a lot of work done on it since we had ridden it last year - there was plenty of fine gravel and graded surfaces. This southern section of Wee Jasper Rd takes you all the way into Tumut where we were both greeted with a room upgrade at the Ashton Motel.

    Loved showing your video to my wife. Two weeks ago I covered much of the same route from Boorowa to Tumut bikepacking on my fat tyre mountain bike. I too did the length of Copperbella Rd and had to open and close all those gates. Only at the end of the road, I turned right onto Berremangra Road and back up to MacMahon's Reef Road for the run down into Jugiong.
    Like you, I crossed the Murrumbidgee out of Jugiong and climbed up the hills along Bundarbo Rd, but after the first 8km, I turned off Bundarbo Rd onto Hopewood Road for a fast downhill to the river and a wonderful section following the river flats. Hopewood Road turned into Gobaralong Road. At Gobaralong Bridge I turned onto Darbalara Road and followed this beside the Tumut River through to Brungle and Killimicat and on to Tumut. I took 6 days with 5 nights camping in my little tent.
    As I said, my wife, who followed my trip as little GPS dots on the map, enjoyed being able to see the scenery and to quality of the roads. Thanks for your video.

      And thanks for sharing your story - great stuff. I mapped your ride and it also looked very nice! It has a lot more sealed sections 👍.

      @@rideday01 Been a 'downed' rider due to life events since 2019 - five years is too long to be off the road but after I rebuild the motor [80k - camchain / runners, seals and general internal inspection] later this year - like to do 'Far Cairn' rally as my run-in ride.

    Last year, a Binalong local told me Galong is pronounced Gaylong.

      @rideday01  3 месяца назад

      Thanks. That’s correct. Unfortunately I asked my mother too late. She spent time in that area growing up and is like an encyclopaedia. 😂

      @@rideday01 I could see Galong becoming a sort of cult country getaway if that wonderful pub could get some traction and Airbnb’s developed there. Went through there on a couple of rides last year.

      Perhaps they need to setup and then advertise, like on bike sites, etc.

    I'm mapping out a few prospective trips for 2025 and you're making it very difficult! What with binging on your channel, I now have so many new ideas that it's confusing the heck out of my husband!! 🤣"But I thought you wanted to do the Tenterfield hinterland?" "I do", "And the high country..." "I do!" "And now Tumut?" "Now you're getting the picture...yes" 😂

    Another great video. I haven't had a chance to do this road but will make a point of riding it next time I'm down that way. It would also be good if you could work out a way to include Toni's voice when she is talking to you. It's very frustrating listening to only 50% of the conversation. I'm not a tech-head, but surely it can be done. Not a criticism, just constructive feedback. Safe travels.

    • @rideday01
      @rideday01  3 месяца назад +1

      Thanks! It can easily be done (you add an audio splitter cable and change a Sena setting), but at this stage, Toni doesn't want to be heard 🤣🤣. Maybe one day she'll change her mind. 👍
