Thanks Richard. I purchased this beautiful and fun game and have enjoyed playing with five players especially. Grail Games have done a stunning job on this one. Thanks for the video.
hmm, they're both great auction games, though in both cases they're better with more than 2. it's hard to say which you'd enjoy more... watch the runthroughs and try to decide which looks the most fun :)
Are you supposed to re-remove cards each round? I was given a demo at Gen Con and told that you will "know" which cards as missing in the second and third rounds. ie, they are removed once at the beginning.
+rahdo I'll have to defer to you since I haven't read the rules, but why remove cards at all? If you can only take 16, just draw from the top, you'll never see the rest.
it didn't happen during the runthrough, but it's possible (and not entirely uncommon) that all players will pass on collecting a lot, which means the cards get discarded and new ones get drawn. Thanks to this, a round can end before everyone has a chance to get a full ship of goods...
I hate to say this 3 years later, but in terms of setting/theme, despite being set around the time of the 'discovery' of the Americas by Europeans, the goods seem inherently Old World/Eastern as opposed to New World. Grain - Europe or potentially Egypt Dyes (Indigo) - India/Middle East Furs - Northern Europe Fabrics/Silks - Middle East/China Spices - the Spice Islands/Far East Gold - well anywhere really
@@rahdo I did not expect a reply after soo long :) Anyhow, I am someone like yourself in that I like to find theme/story in games. Many Euro's could do better. It's there but you often have to find it!
very unlikely unless you're playing with total novices maybe. Scores are regularily well over 100vp, so if you never did anything, it's very likely you'd be in distant last place
+rahdo i agree! But setting/theme usually stays in the background, hiding the mechanics. I don't think many game designers and publishers care too much about the theme
coins is a universal term for currency just like buck (which is used in many different countries: USA, Canada, South Africa, India, New Zealand, Nigeria, etc.) so i don't quite see the difference. it's very unlikely that i'm going to start using the correct in game term, because in case you hadn't noticed, i tend to forget and make goofs in my videos... having to devote some of my limited mental power to actually remember to say 'florins' rather than 'bucks' would only lead to even more goofs... :)

Great gameplay, Rahdo. Thanks!
As far as auction mechanism is concerned: which one would you choose for 2 - Goa or Medici? :)

Hey Rahdo, just wondering if you have plans for A Feast For Odin runthrough? Thanks for what you do!
i'm on the fence about it, after fields of arle and caverna, tbh...
"I'm not very good at this game" ← what do you mean? You've got a 50 point lead on your opponent! :P
Hello there! I'm a new subscriber. :)
hi :)
Are you supposed to re-remove cards each round? I was given a demo at Gen Con and told that you will "know" which cards as missing in the second and third rounds. ie, they are removed once at the beginning.
someone demoed wrong... you're supposed to remove a new set of cards each round so you can never be sure what's available :)
+rahdo I'll have to defer to you since I haven't read the rules, but why remove cards at all? If you can only take 16, just draw from the top, you'll never see the rest.

interesting observation!

So basically you may do nothing and win. Great game.

perfect
Doesnt biblios triumph this in every way..atleast it seems from the gameplay
very different feel here, where the real skill comes from judging the right value for everything, since everything is inherently valueless...
Biblios is mechanically solid and interesting but just a bore to play.
The right pronunciation is "médici", not "medìci"
i've said it before and i'll say it again, it's areal shame game manuals don't include a quick pronunciation guide for stuff like this :)
+rahdo i agree! But setting/theme usually stays in the background, hiding the mechanics. I don't think many game designers and publishers care too much about the theme
Urkel is in the building.
"bucks", "dollars"... Facepalm! Don't kill the setting like this every time!
sorry, "monetary unit" is a bit too unwieldy, so I'll stick with buck, which is synonymous :)
+rahdo "coins" would be ok, or the proper historical name: that would be fun!
+Nicolò Marcato Given that the game is set in the Medici house in Florence, the currency would be Florins
coins is a universal term for currency just like buck (which is used in many different countries: USA, Canada, South Africa, India, New Zealand, Nigeria, etc.) so i don't quite see the difference.

+rahdo we love your vids and your goofs! So it'd just increase the amount of love we have for your work! Ahah
