Hi. Before anything else just wanna say that this is by far the best tutorial for keyflower. Keep up the good work. I just have one question. Assuming that your transport has the number 4. You could do the ff: 1) move 4 resource in one tile 4 space 2) move 4 resource in different tile 1 space each 3) move 1 resource on one tile 3 zpace and 3 resource on another tile 1 space. Is this correct? The way i understNd transport is that you could move a maximum of 4 resource for a total of 4 move action. Please correct me if im wrong. Thanks again.

I've got to say, I've been subscribed since the second playthrough, and while the content quality has always been awesome, the production quality has become absolutely superb! One of the best produced boardgame channels by far. Keep up the good work! As for KeyFlower, this is going on my wishlist. Just from your how to play, I can tell there is an immense amount of strategy involved.
Great video. By far, the best I've seen teaching how to play Keyflower. Although the game mecanics are not difficult, the way it's played can scare at first those who are just casual boardgamers. Question: When relocating meeples from losing bids, I understand that you can move them to be used to bid or activate an active, but they have to moved as one unit - they can't be separated. Let's say I have a losing bid of four meeples, is it possible for me to activate an action on a tile using these four meeples? I'm guessing no since that would make the activation invalid. If no, then what if I had three meeples to relocate, can I then activate a tile (assuming there are no meeples in it yet).
David Sioson You can move 4 workers from an outbid location, to "utilize" a tile, as long as the total number of workers on that tile does not exceed 6. Six is the maximum number of workers that can be placed directly on a tile.
I'm a bit confused about the allocation of unused resources at the end of the game. Could you explain this a bit more? Why would I want to allocate resources to other tiles? This aspect is poorly explained in the official rulebook!

My memory says there are certain tiles that score you points based on the resources placed on them, so that's why you might want to move them around, but I'm not 100% sure.
At 11:40 you mention that if a tile is not chosen (bid) and there's a meeple over it, "even a green one", that meeple is returned to the bag. Is that correct? There will be green meeples in the bag, in some cases? (greetings from Brazil!)

Sat down to play the game tonight. Grabbed the rule book and started reading. My friend and I where so confused 2 pages in. We searched in RUclips for videos. Found yours, figured a fellow maritimer would help us. You made the game so easy to figure out. After watching, the game was easy to play.
Your tutorials really spoil me! They are unbeatable clear, that even people like me who aren't from an English speaking country could also understand well. Both your explanation and high quality of video production always help me get into the game in the shortest time. I wish you could have "How to Play" for all games! :)
Rodney, have you played Keyflower as a 2 player game? If so, what did you think of it? I'm really chomping at the bit to go to my FLGS and pick it up, but I'd mostly get to play it with my wife or best friend in a 2 player setup, so I'm curious how it feels with that player number.
I haven't tried this two player.. I looked online and have heard it plays well with 2, but its hard for me to know if that means you'll also enjoy it as a two player game. Wish I could be more helpful!

Hello Rodney -- I just wanted to post and say thanks so much for this wonderful instructional video -- we recently played our first ever game of Keyflower -- and we were able to set up and play the game by just using your video! We kept the rules by our side and scanned them for extra detail on the particular tiles that came up -- but otherwise the video was such a great way to learn the game and was all we needed. Your videos are so clear -- detailed and professional in presentation -- I just wish you had done instructionals and playthroughs for more games in our collection! Great Vid as usual! I do have 1 question though: Is it advisable to recommend this game to players who are new to worker management-type games? It kinda seemed complicated. :/
Hmmm.... I do make a point of avoiding recommendations, because everyone is so different and what is easy for one person new to worker placement may still be hard for someone else new to worker placement. If you found you were able to follow the rules as presented in this video, then with the game in hand and a second watch through, I suspect you'd come out all right.
Saw this on the shelf at one of my local board game cafes, but we didn't have time to sit down and learn it. This video really made it seem really accessible, so we'll definitely have to play it next time.
game sounds little like carcassone witch is one of my favorite games. In Winter, those who bid on boats get first pick, then after they have taken boats, people who did not bid on boats (going in turn order), also get to take one. Hope that helps.

Great question! The purple meeple is just to show who is the start player for that round. It might be used for bonus points during scoring, but it cannot be used for bidding. If you have access to the green meeples before any other player does though, you can certainly bid with them (and likely guarantee you win that bid).

Love worker placement games, been playing a lot of viticulture/Tuscany and lords of waterdeep and have just ordered this as a xmas present to myself - great video sir you make digesting the rule book so much easier - have a great Christmas and keep up the good work
When you place your works on a tile, you will not be getting them back, unless you own the tile itself - in which case you get all the workers on the tile, not just yours (so you don't need to remember which of those workers are yours). And when you bid, you always place your workers on the side of the tile that faces you (each hex has 6 sides, for up to six players. Does that help clarify it better?

Just an instructional for this one because I have a few different games I'm trying to do before Christmas and time is running a little short. That said, at least one of them will include a play through - had to make some tough choices there!
Thanks for the great video - agree it's not an overly intuitive game. Could I clarify a couple of points? 1) You suggest transportation tile numbers refer to distance as well as the number of resources that can be moved. The rulebook doesn't (seem) to mention distance; so is this the case? So a number 2, for example, denotes I can move 2 resources 2 tiles (or each resource 1 tile, if I split them)? 2) Can I move resources to OR from the transportation tile, or just in one direction? In your example you moved a resource TO the transportation tile. 3) You mention I can use transportation in other players' villages, but why would I want to upgrade their tiles or move stuff about over there? I should mention we're newbie gamers, so don't judge us too harshly!! Thank you in advance.

Let's see if I can help. 1) In my rules on page 6, it shows that you can either use the value 2 on a cart to move 2 resource 1 space, or 2 resources, 1 space each. 2) It's been a little while since I shot this, but if that's what I showed, then yes :) We work with the publishers to ensure the rules are right, and sometimes the rule book is missing things, and so we include information you won't find in the rule book, that we got directly from them. 3) It's been long enough since I last played, that I wouldn't remember the strategy behind it anymore. The video is more to show the rules and what you can do, but not to get into the strategy is why one might do it.

I can sympathise that it must be hard for you to field questions like these on games and videos you may have played/recorded ages ago. You must have to store a lot of rules in your head :) I asked the transportation question on BGG also, and some answers on there suggested transportation can be done anywhere in your village - not only to or from your transportation tile. That is merely the facilitator; if I wish, I can move something from tile A to tile B, with the transportation tile (let's call it C) not involved at all - it merely enables the action. Or something...! Thanks once again, big help.
You don't have to move only from or to the transportation tile. I took a moment and rewatched the section of the video here that talks about transportation, and what I say is that by using the transportation tile, you can move resources along your connected roads. The example I show, of a good going to the transportation tile is just one example of a possible way you could move something. Hope you have fun playing!

Quick question though...is there ever a game where it’s not just a mad dash for the green dude? I mean, couldn’t you just about monopolize on that and win every time? Win the bid for the green dude, place green dude on the won green dude tile (thus blocking anyone else from getting green dudes), rinse and repeat. Seems like the game would be all about getting and holding the power of the green dude? I know eventually some may end up in the bag or maybe other tiles have green dudes as rewards but still...how many games have you played and how many of those have been all about the green dude?
@@Tennethums1 That's more of a strategy/review type of question. Here I just focus on teaching the game. I'm not enough of an authority on the subtitles of the strategy to be able to weigh in on that in an educated way. Might be a good question in the KeyFlower forums on BoardGameGeek though.

Hello Rodney -- I just wanted to post and say thanks so much for this wonderful instructional video -- we recently played our first ever game of Keyflower -- and we were able to set up and play the game by just using your video! We kept the rules by our side and scanned them for extra detail on the particular tiles that came up -- but otherwise the video was such a great way to learn the game and was all we needed. Your videos are so clear -- detailed and professional in presentation -- I just wish you had done instructionals and playthroughs for more games in our collection! Keep up the good work -- it is much appreciated :)

Hmmm.... I do make a point of avoiding recommendations, because everyone is so different and what is easy for one person new to worker placement may still be hard for someone else new to worker placement.
If you found you were able to follow the rules as presented in this video, then with the game in hand and a second watch through, I suspect you'd come out all right.

thnaks for the video. i've played Kyflower twice and i still don't get if (in winter) you only get a boat if you bid on it? or in the turn order tile?
In Winter, those who bid on boats get first pick, then after they have taken boats, people who did not bid on boats (going in turn order), also get to take one. Hope that helps.

can you use the purple meeple to bid? Like a color that only one player has access to
Great question! The purple meeple is just to show who is the start player for that round. It might be used for bonus points during scoring, but it cannot be used for bidding. If you have access to the green meeples before any other player does though, you can certainly bid with them (and likely guarantee you win that bid).

I feel like it would be very confusing to remember where all your workers are.
When you place your works on a tile, you will not be getting them back, unless you own the tile itself - in which case you get all the workers on the tile, not just yours (so you don't need to remember which of those workers are yours). And when you bid, you always place your workers on the side of the tile that faces you (each hex has 6 sides, for up to six players. Does that help clarify it better?

Thanks for the great video - agree it's not an overly intuitive game. Could I clarify a couple of points?
1) You suggest transportation tile numbers refer to distance as well as the number of resources that can be moved. The rulebook doesn't (seem) to mention distance; so is this the case? So a number 2, for example, denotes I can move 2 resources 2 tiles (or each resource 1 tile, if I split them)?
2) Can I move resources to OR from the transportation tile, or just in one direction? In your example you moved a resource TO the transportation tile.
3) You mention I can use transportation in other players' villages, but why would I want to upgrade their tiles or move stuff about over there?
I should mention we're newbie gamers, so don't judge us too harshly!! Thank you in advance.

1) In my rules on page 6, it shows that you can either use the value 2 on a cart to move 2 resource 1 space, or 2 resources, 1 space each.
2) It's been a little while since I shot this, but if that's what I showed, then yes :) We work with the publishers to ensure the rules are right, and sometimes the rule book is missing things, and so we include information you won't find in the rule book, that we got directly from them.
3) It's been long enough since I last played, that I wouldn't remember the strategy behind it anymore. The video is more to show the rules and what you can do, but not to get into the strategy is why one might do it.

I asked the transportation question on BGG also, and some answers on there suggested transportation can be done anywhere in your village - not only to or from your transportation tile. That is merely the facilitator; if I wish, I can move something from tile A to tile B, with the transportation tile (let's call it C) not involved at all - it merely enables the action. Or something...!

You don't have to move only from or to the transportation tile. I took a moment and rewatched the section of the video here that talks about transportation, and what I say is that by using the transportation tile, you can move resources along your connected roads. The example I show, of a good going to the transportation tile is just one example of a possible way you could move something. Hope you have fun playing!

Quick question though...is there ever a game where it’s not just a mad dash for the green dude? I mean, couldn’t you just about monopolize on that and win every time?
Win the bid for the green dude, place green dude on the won green dude tile (thus blocking anyone else from getting green dudes), rinse and repeat.
Seems like the game would be all about getting and holding the power of the green dude?
I know eventually some may end up in the bag or maybe other tiles have green dudes as rewards but still...how many games have you played and how many of those have been all about the green dude?
@@Tennethums1 That's more of a strategy/review type of question. Here I just focus on teaching the game. I'm not enough of an authority on the subtitles of the strategy to be able to weigh in on that in an educated way. Might be a good question in the KeyFlower forums on BoardGameGeek though.
