Thanks for the video Rodney. There are many people on RUclips who I rely on to help learn to play games, but almost without fail i find i have to have at least studied the rulebook first to follow everyhting. Your videos are the only ones where I dont need to have read the rule book at all to be able to fully understand the game, which helps me decide whether or not the game is for me. After watching several turorials on CoB and being left confused, I eventaully came across this video and immediately grasped why this game is so acclaimed - and having now purchased it, it's arguably my favourite overall in my collection. Please keep up the amazing work.
What an incredibly kind piece of feedback to take the time to share. Thank you for that, it truly means a lot to know the video was helpful. I am so glad you enjoyed the game!
Impeccable job as always! As an aside, not only does the player reference help with reminding you which building does what, but also the tiles themselves have colors and symbols that correspond with its bonus action. The market has green/blue buildings for the livestock and ship colors. The carpenter’s workshop has a beige roof for the beige building colors. The church has green, yellow, and silver colored sides. The warehouse has a red roof. The boarding house has four gables. The bank has two silver domes. The town hall is omnicolored. The watch tower doesn’t need explanation lol.
By far the best and most complete tutorial as usual. Thanks a lot. I pledged to the new special edition on gamefound before I really knew how to play because people rate this game very highly. It looks really interesting.

Just to clarify, at 21:46 there was a building token in the 6 depot still on the board when you refilled it with tokens. Was that meant to be cleared, but mistakenly left on?
Awesome! I asked about a tutorial for Castles back during the Q & A a few weeks back so I’m glad they did it. My first time seeing the game played was when Rodney played it on Game Night. I found the video about two months ago and after watching, I immediately looked for a copy for myself. This game is amazing especially when you line up a super “Spicey” combo! Love it when monasteries help you practically break the game! 😁 Great video as always!

But i've been playing the BGA version this week (with artwork based on this update) and... i don't hate it? i may just update my copy after all. Thanks for the video, Rodney!

Hey Rodney at 13:35 you mention that you’ll explain the mine hex ability at the end of the phase but I can’t find the part where you explain it? Thanks so much for the video I’m about to teach it to my family for a gaming weekend!
The colors were indeed better in the old version, but the layout of the new boards are actually great in this one. I just wish the city in the background was faded. One thing I love though, is that the look of the each building gives you a hint about its ability. The expansions are also good and easy to add (except shields maybe).
I have a question about an expansion tile- when playing the white castle, are you able to “discard” the white die for workers, or you just have the result to be used? Thanks! ☺️
Another great video. It would be great if BGA linked your How To Play videos, it would really help people like me who struggle when first playing a game.
just got my copy today! thanks for the "how to play" instructions. I watch all the videos by you. Makes it easier! p.s. in the beginning when you tossed the game box...I know you had it empty. Can't fool us! its a decent weight when full :)
@@WatchItPlayed for sure! I laminated the player boards and it makes a big difference. At least put me at ease with the durability to withstand all the handling/in and out of the box.
Thank you for your awesome and clear explanations. I'm very new to this hobby and just purchased this game at a local toy store. I realize my version must be an older version because this version only contains the board where you show it is for 4 players (where you flip it to the other side. Mine does not have another side for 2 players). Will this version of the board still be good for 2 players? Thank you.
It’s hard to say, as I’m not sure what version you have. I’m pretty sure all versions of this game has boards for 2 players. You might need to check your versions rule book to see if it has any special notes about that.
I’m glad you did this video because I’ve been meaning to check this out ever since I watched the Game Night episode that it was featured in (where I think that you also taught the game). Anyways, It looks like a classic I should play.
Do you only move forward on the bridge with a ship? And do you get 1 to 4 workers and one diamond in every phase round or only at the beginning? Thanks for your help :)
I have a question: At the end of the video, how many times/takes did you have to twirl the top of the box before you were able to do it smoothly and place it right side up on the bottom half?
Hello, a question about an expansion tile: the "white castle" says to immediately perform an action with the value of the white die. Will this action be possible only when the “white castle” tile is placed or every time the white die is rolled? Thank you
The video is here: boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/84876/castles-burgundy You can only link a video to one game, so I decided to link it to the version that most people are following on BGG.
@@WatchItPlayed Thank you Rodney. I wondered why it didn't see it. I assumed since there were 2 entries for the game, it would be under the entry for the 2019 version.
I have a question about the bridge. I noticed that the bridge only has 7 spots on it. If a player were to advance on the bridge, but was already on the 7th spot, what happens? Also, if 2 or more players were on the last spot of the bridge, and one of them has to advance (like the player whose piece is on the bottom of the stack), what happens, and who would be the new first player? In fact, could any player in general go past the 7th spot, since I did notice that the board themselves only have 6 ship spots, and the ships are the ones that let you move your piece on that track?
I would say there's indirect player interaction (considering how what you take affects other players, or might limit their options). But no direct interaction (stealing another player's pieces, etc).
Did you decide to make this video because the game is now on BGA? Always wondered if there was a correlation with that site and some of the videos you do.
NOTE: In both the original Castles of Burgundy (and also the anniversary edition shown here), the English rules translated the original German rules wrong when it comes to tie-breaker rules. Very well made.
Thank you very much!
Another skilled exposition
Thanks Chris!
I’m glad you did this video because I’ve been meaning to check this out ever since I watched the Game Night episode that it was featured in (where I think that you also taught the game). Anyways, It looks like a classic I should play.
Yes, I taught it there and was glad to be able to give it a slightly more organized approach here :)
Do you only move forward on the bridge with a ship? And do you get 1 to 4 workers and one diamond in every phase round or only at the beginning? Thanks for your help :)
The ships only move in one direction, if that’s what you’re asking.
The other items you mention relate to the setup (not each new round). Cheers!
Fantastic game. My top 1.
Nice!
this great game is terrific
Glad you enjoy it too!
..great instruction!
Thank you kindly!
I think in "beginning a new phase" 21:47 you forgot to clean up the building in depot 6.
Sneaky token!
I have a question: At the end of the video, how many times/takes did you have to twirl the top of the box before you were able to do it smoothly and place it right side up on the bottom half?
Are you suggesting it wasn't on the first attempt?! *gasp* ;)
Hello, a question about an expansion tile: the "white castle" says to immediately perform an action with the value of the white die. Will this action be possible only when the “white castle” tile is placed or every time the white die is rolled? Thank you
Hi Trigun, I didn't cover the expansion material, so I can't help with that.
I'm requesting A Feast for Odin to be covered. Thank you in advance Rodney!
Thanks for the interest! I talk a bit about that here: ruclips.net/video/EdtDuvIUa6A/видео.html&t=342
I found your video on this topic. Ok I respect that. In that case hope to see it in the future and as always thank you for your work!
I think I have the digital version of this one 🤔 but never tried it... I should give it a shot
You should!!
Thank you!!!
You're very welcome Pablo!
Thank you for another great Video, Rodney ❤😃 #SoMi
Thanks Micken!
👍 great video
Thank you Fayde!
Rodney, did you know this video isn't on BGG? We could only find the video for the older version there.
@@purrceys7959 Yeah, I wish it could be under both.
You only advance on the bridge when you place a ship piece. The maps have spaces for 6 possible ship pieces.
So am I correct that there is no player interaction?
I would say there's indirect player interaction (considering how what you take affects other players, or might limit their options). But no direct interaction (stealing another player's pieces, etc).
Did you decide to make this video because the game is now on BGA? Always wondered if there was a correlation with that site and some of the videos you do.
Nope, wasn't aware this was coming to BGA. I've actually had this one in the works for about a year, but was having trouble finding an opening.
