bro dropping almost a MINUTE from a 20 minute record is so insane. amazing video cata, great summary and storytelling. it's incredible how much info you're able to pack into such a small space, and convey it all clearly and enjoyably. also a really good takeaway here about how expertise, for all the avenues it opens up, can also close down possibilities because of prevailing assumptions. outsiders can sometimes revolutionize a field because they haven't yet learned what is "impossible." last thing I love: the optimization to level strength because leveling is faster than doing two extra attacks. those tiny things are so gratifying to me as an observer, lol.
The amount of glitches, tricks, speedrun tech and optimization in this is absolutely insane. This has to be one of the most broken and impressive speedrun games of all time at this point. It's also crazy that people still find new stuff so many years after the game's initial release. I love it!
Know whats crazy, I used to run DS1 around the time Bloodborne came out (so 2014/15). The amount that the run has changed is honestly crazy to me. From a distance, I’ve kind of been checking in on the runs from time to time, but damn, it’s really a completely different run today 😯
Very impressive. My only question is why is Taurus Demon still fought with the existence of the Havel Tower skip. Is it just a case of it being faster to fight him for the souls since you already need to go up the stairs for Twinkling Titanite than not doing that?
@@TheMoogleKing93also, why dont they to do the parry the hollow and walk out of bounds into the sens fortress. Is that ds1 remastered only or why not?
@@DonzoArmy it's allowed, but to make the entrance to Fire link Altar appear (which you need to do the wrong warp) you need to either ring both bells or fight Four Kings. So it's slower to do Sens Gate skip in this route.
As per usual - brilliant video. Queuek's movement (aside from that one failed jump :P) was on point. Can you help me understand one thing though - what is the reason for not using Sen's skip? On the surface I would assume it saves time not having to travel to Blighttown for example, but other than this I just don't know. Is it that the souls received from killing the bosses in the route allow for weaponj upgrades and level ups? Looking forward to future videos. Cheers!
It's slower due to routing. You need the lordvessel and a way to access firelink altar. Fastest way is to ring the bells and since we already have a powerful weapon, we just kill quelaag right away.
Dude, I use to speed run this game back from release up until dark souls 2 came out. The evolution of these strats are just mind blowing. I remember when the blighttown skip (where you just slide down from the top to the swamp below) was a huge deal when it was found, but now you have wrong warps and negative item? Kudos
What a wonderful way to relate, unpack and explain in detail the process and the achievement that is means this run. Great video and great work my dude!
QQ is a great dude. Always hanging out in the hitless discord and chats. He's come up with some awesome lineups for tricks for us. Super happy to see him pull this off
Your vids are disgustingly well edited and informed and explain all of the tricks cleanly and quickly. I wanna make vids like yours. Also the performance by the runner was crazy. Love the firebomb lineups and the seconds saving bonfire menu tricks.
Oh yeah, more speedrun explained content from Cata 😍 Absolutely love the way you do these - such clear explanations and no unnecessary detail - it's like the perfect speed run of explaining a speed run!
Great video once again! Thanks for using the music from Clash, such a good game with inspiring music, art and gameplay also. I hope more people will try out this game. The first track you used was my favourite.
Love seeing records like this be broken time and time again across more than a decade, just shows you never truly know how far something can be pushed.
Great video. And thanks for including Quadruple farming bullshit quote. It reminds me of the times then I used to count undead jumping over boxes to fall asleep.
Wow amazing production quality. The graphics did an amazing job at explaining complex topics. Honestly the thing I was maybe most impressed with was the sound design. Any tips on where I can find sounds like the ones used on many graphics?
There is actually a reason to finish the fight with a riposte! It skips Gwyns death animation and quitting out with it allows for the final cutscene to be activated earlier.
catalystz videos never miss. the explanation is so easy to follow even if you know nothing about these tricks. but its not boring at all, he makes it all sound so fucking interesting and captivating. awesome vid again man, cant wait for the next one!
This may seem like a dumb question, as I'm not experienced in the speed run route or anything, but would Sen's Skip be faster than going to each bell? Is there like a flag that needs triggered by the bell or could skipping the bells be more beneficial? Either way the run is super impressive, and the work gone into is amazing!
I wonder what year they’ll find a wrong warp or other glitch that goes from firelink shrine to Gwyn, and then they’ll beat him down with the starter weapon in 3:42
13:01 Every single time I try this jump I miss lol and every time I miss I say to myself "I'm not a speedrunner why am I always going for this jump" and yet I'm sure I'll go for ti again on my next run...and I bet I'll miss again lol!
Could instability damage be used for a faster asylum demon? I saw in QQ's clip it used a jumping attack. Maybe hitting a firebomb during that animation would be enough to kill it with 4 bombs, since it has so little health left to use the 5th one on... Or maybe I'm stupid lol
"This run will never be beaten" Yeah, this is probably one of the worst adages of speed running I've ever seen. People keep trying to optimize times SO MUCH, alongside the psychopaths (take it as a compliment) hunting glitches, that sometimes a new glitch is just randomly discovered and it destroys a category entirely. Unless we start measuring runs in the milisseconds for tie breaks, the only time that won't ever be beaten is 1s runs at a certain point.
This is fantastic. The drop into Quelaag's Domain from New Londo Ruins is wild (as is pretty much everything else in here).
That part in particular was absolutely insane though i agree
