      I love how Summoning Salt is seen as the gold standard of speedrun commentary, and this style is taken and used in so many videos, and everyone is like "hell yeah this is great" instead of being all shitty about copying styles. We all just wanna know more about speedrunning and this is the best format we've seen.

    • @jstrandquist
      @jstrandquist 3 года назад +65

      I completely agree. Summoning figured out a really clean documentary format that clearly communicates the techniques, routes, and runners and how they all changed over time. I remember his videos better than most of my lectures from undergrad. It's absolutely worth emulating by anyone that really wants to do a historical overview of a given speedrun's progression.

I mean really he couldve just multiplied 11 by 3 then subtract that from 1 hour and he wouldve realized 59:27 is more than 57:43. Tho ig when it comes to time lots of mistakes are made as you subtract that 33 seconds from 60 seconds not 100 seconds. Seems obvious, but its a common mistake.
      I love math. It just makes sense with so many tricks to take advantage of.
      Instead of multipling 19:49×3 which isnt as fun or easy. Going 49×3÷60 ending with 2 with a remainder of 27. 19×3=57 finally ending with a 57:00+2:27. Seriously if you had to do all math this way id hate it to. The little tricks is whqt makes it fun. Since 19:49 is so close to 20:00 i can just multiple 20:00 by 3 then the difrence would be those 11 seconds multiple by 3. Subtract those 11 seconds and done. Tho thats repeating myself. Mught as well do it again. Finding these little tricks with logic and reasoning is a lot of fun.

    Man I love these docs about DS and the history of speedrunning and glitch discoveries. I would sure like to see that story for another time about the splitting of any% categories in 2017 you mentioned. Very interesting to a dedicated From fan.
