CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Marty Mikalski (Fran Kranz) and Dana (Kristen Connolly) have a brief moment of peace before the giant evil gods take over the world.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard team up for this bloody horror satire that offers an inventive twist on the familiar stranded-in-the-woods sub-genre. As five friends pile into an RV bound for a secluded cabin far from civilization, the operators of a mysterious, high-tech control room monitor their every move while preparing an arcane ritual that dates back to the beginning of time. Shortly after arriving at the rickety cottage, Dana (Kristen Connolly) and her friends Curt (Chris Hemsworth), Jules (Anna Hutchison), Marty (Fran Kranz), and Holden (Jesse Willaims) venture into the basement and discover a little girl's diary from the early 1900s -- which recounts a series of horrifying events that unfolded precisely where the vacationing teens how stand. Before long, the nightmare comes knocking at the door -

Gotta hand it to them it was worth the budget

Zyntrax Pablax 🤦♂️
we needa prequel to this shit so we can see how this all started and hopefully where the gods came from
wouldn't be necessary, the gods are a metaphor for horror movie audiences and their need for blood
it's why all the characters are forced into different horror movie archetypes
this film is just a huge parody on the horror movie industry
Seconding this.
@@kristobaz2474 jesus dude your blowing my mind
They were Titans. We remembered them.
if base on scp ..they are titans who created this world and yes they also the one who created monsters for killing human (monsters not killing each others, they only killing human). why ? because human is the most evil parasite of this earth. the only specie that always having an excuse for killing each others and the world they live.
Kratos : "I guess I forgot one. Boi where's me blades."
Hehe
Underrated comment lmao
@Guido Mista god of war bro
@Guido Mista it can be a god he forgot to kill you see what i did there LOL
Make it yourself..
Surely if we (the audience) are The Ancient Ones and we want a sequel then it will happen because they'll have to appease us... right?
Well we are the Ancient Ones, but the film makers are the Ancient Ancient Ones, meaning that they have more power over us.
Yup, the film makers are the titans and we, the audience, are ancient ones aka gods.
Mind Your Money alright weirdo. What do you mean?
I wouldn't hold your breath, they didn't appease the gods on this occasion
They’ll just create a new world with more competent mortals.
I didn't get the ending until reading the comments and looking at the clips and story, this film is literally a manifestation of horror movie cliches where the scientists are the movie producers, the teenagers are the characters played by a cast, and the giant gods are actually us. So because the gods destroyed the world, it's actually a way to show how the audience would be mad at the horror story they watched
and with the scientists in the role of producers/directors, it's a roast of the formulaic nature many horror genres fall into. I think the best part was the subversion and the first sign of this round of sacrifices going wrong was the Japanese division's monster being undone by a group of grade-schoolers, which looking at Japanese horror stories makes sense given how old many Japanese horror stories are, so of course, they'd be the ones savvy enough to know how to undo an evil spirit.
Um it's actually deeper than that. Its clearly a pagan ritual kinda like the wicker man
@@mrpoop123u had to be that guy
@@lilpaste2830 oh the smart guy? I guess you had to be that guy too the dumb one
so long story short, we sent monstrous cliches to attack the producers as well as any cast characters and actors, and in the end, we finished the job. by destroying it ourselves.
in a way, that's very true
Giant evil gods huh? Well that's why we made The Giant Robotic Mechwarriors from Pacific Rim.

And all that, just because Thor lost his hammer.
XD
Damn that invisible force field really told thor "you ain't worthy"
lol
Oh, are you telling me he is the god of hammers?
Yeah sure you are
The movie was just a big stand on how horror movies were all the same thing back then. Personally, I think the gods destroying everything means like "This has gone too far. Let's start over" for the horror genre.
The gods represent the audience. All horror movies were the same because studios had discovered the safe formula and kept copy/pasting it over and over, almost to the same level as stock characters in the opera. All this is done because it's a simple, safe way to please the gods. When Cabin in the Woods deviates from the formula and the guy shoehorned into the role of the fool survives the movie when he's not supposed to, the gods throw a tantrum and destroy everything, just as the lazy studios feared audiences would do if they tried something new.
@@mikewaters2126 its deeper than that though the esoteric meaning of this movie is clearly pagan
Do you mind sharing babe @@mrpoop123
Like the lich said
Before there was time, before there was everything, there was nothing
And before there was nothing, there were monsters
is that Adventure Time The Lich quote?
Yep
How does that fit the situation at all?
Such a simple quote and you messed it up good job
Here's your gold star.
The giant gods everyone is calling dumb is kind of brilliant. We (the audience) are the gods and we bash on scary movies that aren't cliche so since they broke the system the gods (us) destroyed the world or in this case (the film)
Considering the fact that I've had to sit through several college lectures, make a presentation, and then write an essay on this movie... No... Not Really...
+Simon Lu. hahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahyahahahaha
Simon Lu. There is no way you felt intelligent after typing that. He posted the comment to try to give some context to the 10 year olds who bash the film without knowing it's meaning.
Its Galactus
Griffin Scott
Seeing as it's a movie where the Gods are watching young attractive people get killed (like most horror movies) I think you might be under thinking it. This was literally the point of the whole movie.
Imagine a stone killed the stoner last second and the gods were like: “Oh okay.”
“Haha Good ending ngl” - the evil giant gods
The last high moment before one scary hand slams at us. After the movie came out, everyone got a huge case of the shivers. That ending scene is so scary that everyone had to close their eyes when that giant hand pops up and lunges at the screen!!
Well, with all the shit they've been through, I'm certain that they had a reason for not not caring about people as they were about to die.
Yeah, but *every single person on the planet*?!
I would have made the same decision as them. I would have chosen to end a system which sacrifices young people so others can live in comfort.
People are dying for the greater good for millenias. Agricultures, mining, building houses and other buildings, all involved a lot of suffering and even a good proportion of people dying just so people can eat, use metals and have bridges or churches to prey to an invisible man in the sky. It is still stupid to kill the entire mankind just because the system isn't perfect or unfair. The whole thing is just pretty typical misantropic edgyness, ignoring the greater picture for the sake of being edgy.
@@valeriacaissa4552 Say that when *you* are the sacrifice. Knowing that you are just the latest in a long line of chumps who has said it. Knowing that the next chump has to say the exact same thing or everything ends. And the next one. And the next. And the next... Unless the world gets fixed at some point, eventually one of those chumps will just say, "Screw it." There are millions upon millions of people out there who get absolutely nothing from "the system" and if that does not change... "Giant evil gods. I wish I could've seen them. I know. That would have been a fun weekend."
@@stephaniem9561 Do you live a comfortable western lifestyle? Do you know how many people around the world, young and old, suffer for it?
Someone tell Percy Jackson to deal with the evil gods.
Percy Jackson prob got killed by one of them damn monsters 😂
LOL, Percy jackson annihilated monsters far more superior. Those monsters would be a catwalk hahahaha the merman would probably serve him also since he's the prince of the fucking sea. HAHAHA
Carlos Munoz no get Kratos from God of war. He's an expert when it comes to killing gods
actually you have no idea how bad these evil gods could be, they could be from a time before the gods in Percy's universe, or these evil gods may have created the other gods. Idunno.
Pennywise they would be like chaos before the Giants and titans
Honestly the best "scary" movie ive ever watched with probably one of the biggest twists in a movie ive ever seen
Such a must watch 11/10
I think Marty's lines in this scene easily make it the best part of the movie.
What most of you don't realize in this movie is that the stoner was the smartest most self sufficient out of the entire group. Also he was the virgin lol, such an awesome movie.
Um no the girl was the virgin...
@@mrpoop123 She wasn't, it's clear in the movie, but she was "pure", so the Gods were ok with it.
I realized that too. In my head canon, the world didn't actually end

Communist Yaroslav Pokrovsky In movies in general, if you think this was bad you don't understand satire.

CatBitch82 this film takes common horror movie tropes and pokes fun at them. Pretty blantantly obvious lol. So yes, it is indeed satire.

I don't really care for sequels but this movie had a lot of good possibilities for one.
Fun fact: originally Left 4 dead 2 was supposed to occur during or somewhere before/after the events of this movie, and would have had a DLC campaign to tie it in. This can be seen in some shots during the elevator descent, where in some of the cubes special infected from the game can be seen.
While it was ultimately scrapped because of budget issues, it's really funny to think four survivors of a zombie apocalypse would face up against an all mighty God like being.
Uhhhm what possibilities ?? the world ended !

Basically, avoiding the first Dragon's Dogma bad ending. Instead of sacrificing your loved one, so that the Dragon leaves the rest of the Duchy alone, you fight the Dragon, knowing that there's a good chance that the Dragon's death will cause the Everfall. I imagine that fifteen minutes after this the Ancient Ones get put down with modern technology and the organization discovers it's been slaughtering people this whole time for nothing - for beings trumping up their own hype, specifically so they just get to watch people die.
That would be a hilarious ending
Modern technology wasn't helping the organization when they were getting slaughtered underground. Those monsters were likely nothing compared to the ancient ones.
