@@MrMorj Maybe Imu’s fruit could be the sea king. Like instead of specifically the Jormungandr, the fruit is basically the same thing but a deity specific to One Piece, much like Nika is. So it would be heavily based on the Jormungandr, but with some elements such as the leviathan or the biblical serpent. And this deity could be the Sea King. As Ima is literally the king of the sea, and the first sea king we see is a serpent as stated above. This also ties in with the Mother Sea hating other fruits idea, as the Sea king could be possibly be this mother sea Vegapunk’s talking about. So everything else in Morj’s theory still works, there’s just a slight change.

Egyptian mythology also has a similar world ending event which I feels also ties in especially with vivi now involved. Ra ( the god of the sun) sails on his sun ship(sunny) with the other gods with must battle the serpent of chaos and darkness, and the original god before the sun came to be (apothikis) and if the serpent won he would then wrap himself around the world and swallow it into an age of chaos and darkness once more

Good theory! Something that might make the case even stronger is that having Imu be a snake doubles as the Biblical serpent from the book of Genesis. The devil fruits themselves seem to have some connection to the fruit that the literal devil offered Eve, and of course OP has the Adam and Eve trees that might well play an important role in its lore as well. So that in a way makes Imu like Satan, and the mythical snake fruit could well be the OG devil fruit (at least by implication) - quite a fitting endgame opponent on that front as weal!

Perhaps the Zoan isn't Jormungandr, but Tiamat.
In Mesopotamian myth, Tiamat was the primordial goddess of the ocean, the abyss and chaos, the great serpent or dragon. Coupled with her mate, Abzu, she created the rest of the gods, when the world was an endless sea.
The gods killed Abzu, enraging Tiamat, who birthed teeming hordes of monsters to command. The gods eventually killed Tiamat, and formed a new order out of her reign of chaos. Thus, we have our own world.
Going by this idea, the war for the Dawn would be a retelling of this myth, with the rest of the gods (the Strawhats) teaming up to fight and kill Tiamat (Imu) and her legion of monsters (Gorosei and CD).
This would work with Imu being "mother ocean", as she would be a holder of the "ocean goddess" Zoan, and would hate other DF users for being the "gods" that enraged her originally, or potentially stealing "divinity" for themselves.
Hell, perhaps Imu knows how to create Devil Fruits at will, and bestowed Zoans onto the Gorosei, thus making them her "monstrous children".

Definitely could see some aspects of this coming through, but Oda never takes 1:1 from anything, I mean he just combined Hanuman with Bugs Bunny lol

I think one nice thing to add here is the concept of leviathan as a snake like sea monster. I think many in the comments already talked about it so I won’t but a nice thing to add here is the book from the important philosopher Thomas Hobbes called leviathan. In which he talkes about the society and it’s needs for security he postulates people giving up there inherent freedoms to a mighty sovereign which delivers security for the people by oppressing them but also by doing this preventing the people to fight among themselves.
I think this adds greatly to the idear of the video and what’s happening with the government oppressions marine self legitimization of bringing peace and justice. Also it’s fits perfectly the theme of getting freedom back by killing the sovereign which is called leviathan in the book ergo a see serpent ergo another name for Imu

There are 2 other mythical comparisons to imu having some form of serpent associations. The christian re-interpertation of the garden of eden story, the devil takes the form of the serpent who tempts eve which fits in the sea devil theory and the adam & eve trees. The other one is Apophis from egyptian mythology, who is also an evil serpent, specifically, the end of the world in egyptian mythology is said to begin when Apophis devours Ra, the egyptian sun god. I'd argue that its still more likely though that Imu's fruit is referred to as the sea devil, and said devil takes the form of a serpent fitting the christian reinterpertation of the garden of eden.

  • @PMillan
    @PMillan Год назад +2

Great theory Morj, but I have some things to say about this:
1.- ''The norse battle of Ragnarok is supossed to conclude with the world serpent being slain''. Well, Jormundgander doesn't even have a prominent role during Ragnarok since it's basically a battle royale. Jormundgander fights Thor and they kill eachother, but that's not the end of Ragnarok, nor the most important battle.
2.- ''As in norse mythology Jormundgander is essentially a world ending threat. This is a creature that is basically the final villain of all Norse mytholgy''. Again, no. Jormundgander isn't the final villain, and the serpent is arguably not even stronger than Fenrir, another of Loki's descendant that also played a role in Ragnarok.
3.- You call Jormundgander ''final evil'', but we have no evidence of the serpent being actually evil. He is just a huge serpent, and we have no evidence that he had malevolent thoughts. Apart from Ragnarok, he never had any behavior other than that of a huge animal. And he, unlike other monsters in norse mythology, was destined to fight in Ragnarok probably for the simple reason that he was the son of Loki, the true instigator of Ragnarok.
4.- For me the main problem with this theory is that we already have a clear reference to Jormundgander in the manga: Nola. A large snake with a lot of physical power that shares appearance with the mythologycal snake and the ability to spit venom. As if that weren't enough, Enel used an attack called 'Thor' against Nola in reference to the battle between the god and the giant snake during Ragnarok.
5.- In my opinion it doesn't make much sense that the final villain of One Piece is based on a single mythology. Furthermore, I don't think Imu It's based on any mythology that we know of, for the mere reason that it wouldn't make much sense for the god Nika, a specific One Piece deity, to face Jormundgander or any other obvious mythological reference. It would be weird imo.
In any case, this is an interesting theory, but I wanted to clarify some points about norse mythology. Good job, Morj.
PS: English is not my first language so sorry for my spelling and grammar mistakes. Have a nice day

Another interesting note is when we first meet Kaido, he begins by announcing wanting to start the greatest war the world has ever seen. Kaido has a serpent like fruit, so that could have been a foreshadowing towards Imu starting off the greatest war the world has ever seen. Also, another thing I thought about was Kaido fell from a Sky Island. Which could be a foreshadowing towards Skypias old serpent god, and since Imu thinks of themselves as a god. They could also have a serpent like fruit to connect in the same sort of way? I don't know if what I am saying makes any sense. I hope it does. Let me know if something needs to be clarified. Also, I doubt I am the only one who thought of this, so I don't take any credit on this theory.

We are told they occupied the Red Line previously and what little we get of King in the Kaido flashback it seems like they were allies of Joyboy. So the Redline should ha e already existed during the Void Century. Really Kunarians living there calls a lot of older theories into question.

(Commented before watching video)Giant serpents / dragons like tiamat, leviathan, and Jormungander are associated with chaos and the ocean so I always felt that Imu had a tiamat fruit or something. Dragons and serpents are also associated with chaos, immortality, power, and temptation and sometimes fire. Some verses of the bible also imply that leviathan has multiple heads and breathes fire like how Imu was able to no sell Sabo's attack. Also keep in mind in the book of revelations, the first beast, also known as the beast from the sea has the body of a leopard like Rob Lucci.

Both natural born enemies but eventually have to team up to bring down the ultimate chaos in the world … Morj you should take a deep dive into Egyptian lore. My favorite one piece theory is that the source of devil fruits and also Imus power, originate from dream energy. Like in the xbox 360 game Asuras wrath, mantra is the power system, and it is comprised of the thoughts, prayers, and emotions of all beings, and on it's own, that power is only weak resonating vibrations that lie in abundance all around us. However the due to technical advancements they invented mantra reactors which capture mantra and turn it into an incredible source of energy. So then you get demigods which are cyborgs powered by mantra capable of destroying the planet. The seven deities were cruel however, and often killed humans to harvest their soul directly for a huge amount of mantra. What do we see big mom do, harvest souls directly for a large power up. Another big thing in asuras wrath is that Asura and the emperor are betrayed, and the self proclaimed seven deities rule over the world for 12,000 years only for asura to finally return and set things straight. I think that in one piece dreams are similar to mantra, and when there is an extreme amount of that 'dream energy' it actually manifests into physical matter, which according to Einstein's theory could happen. So basically these devil fruits are what mantra reactors are for demigods in asuras wrath, just tools that allow access to the immense latent dream energy in one piece. Off course imu has special technology that allows him access to this power without needing devil fruits, and he keeps the world in this post apocalyptical state because people will dream even more, which gives him more power, and that would explain how he's lived this long.

My take: The Great Serpent soaked in Blood Is litteraly the Red line and It represents the Ouroboros, the Snake of eternity that eats Its own Tail.
Jormungandr Is the Norse take on the Ouroboros.
But the Ouroboros was also known in ancient Egypt (aka Alabasta).
It's a recurrent figure in many mitologies and has tons of references in mondern culture. Even in science.
It could very well be that the Red Line Is actual body of the Ouroboros. Maybe Im is the One Who killed/defeated the snake and caused the Apocalypse, which destoryed the ancient Kingdom.
Also, I would consider Amazon Lily as a direct reference to Snake mitology in One Piece. They use Snake as weapons, they are guided by "gorgons", they even have LILY in the name of the country and their leader Is a former slave, freed by the future leader of the Sun Pirates, which is genetichaly in love with the new Joy Boy. ... Like... Come on.

I actually think Imu is the woman, goddess of moon, as opposed to Sun God- Nika, and Eve in the story of Christian mythology. (She can be the Goddess Maya in Sanskrit with means dreams, illusions (imu means dreams). I remember your theory that there are reversed narratives when it comes to stories esp with Usopp. And maybe in their universe, Joyboy and Imu were lovers, but Joyboy want to be free from the responsibilities or free the slaves worldwide, and was banished/left the Paradise or the Ancient Kingdom, idk (as Imu is seen in the Garden of Flowers). I mean, some of the ancient Kingdom were shit, pre-void history like in Tontatta tribe.
I also think that Imu has dual personality --- as I think she is actually Boa Hancock in disguise. Feminine has 2 energies with Lilith (dark feminine energy that became Samael/Lucifer's lover) and Eve (Adam's wife and the light feminine energy), and if associated with moon, has 3 personas (Maiden, Mother, and Crone --- Hecate, goddess of witchcraft, Moon and illusions, dreams). Kinda same with Blackbeard with three personality.
As being Boa Hancock being Imu, it's the Maiden persona (Kuja - means earth-born, which is similar to Amazonians and Hunters of Artemis, moon goddess, sister of Sun God- Apollo). But I also think that he is Luffy's mom, because it's a big insane plot twist that Luffy's parental lineage is kinda overpowered, well, he's family is insane anyway. While Imu in the Mariejois represented the Crone (wise old hag.)
(I have a whole lot explanation, just lazy to type them all)

In Hindu Mythology also; snakes plays a very important role, and among them, the most important is a snake wrapped around the world called Shesh Nag; a huge snake with thousands of heads; it's probably even more powerful than Jorgurmand, as it's other name in Anatha Nag; literally meaning limitless or infinite snake. Although, it's not portrayed as a villain but a loyal companion of Vishnu, the Protector God in the trinity. Interestingly; the strongest attack of Luffy is called Bajrang Gun; named after Hanuman or Bajrangbali; a monkey God in Hinduism who is often referred to as the inspiration behind Sun Wukong; who inturn inspired Goku and Luffy.....

His theory is that the one piece is a world filled iwth people from the 7 moons that once existed (6 of them being eaten by snake) and that the creation of the red line by the 20 kingdoms was teh decision to encase the snake around the world to create red line.
