  • Hi everyone, welcome back to another video related to Psychology! After finishing my BSc in Psychology/Psychological Sciences last year, I moved to the United Kingdom to do my MSc in Organizational Psychology, from which I just recently graduated! Being the nerd I am, I am now working towards my second Msc, this time in Clinical Psychology! I decided to combine my top 5 tips for Psychology Students and I hope you enjoy! If you have further tips, I would love to hear them!

    love this video!!! I totally agree with you. I think the common misconception about psychology is that it is an “easy” course when in reality, it is hard affff. It requires a lot of reading, analyzations and critical thinking. This was very informative !!! Thank you for providing some insights about your experiences ❤️❤️❤️ I appreciate your advices a lot.

    Just wanted to point out, (because I think people get this alittle twisted as to how broad the domain of psychology is), I'm currently in my 2nd year Undergraduate for Psychology with Counselling. This means I study the main core modules that Psychology students do also, but instead of the additional modules they choose, mine are related to practical counselling skills and theory (both of which were in my first year. And yes, I counselled other students). I'm mainly mentioning this because I watched another tips video where the girl was disappointed because she had misunderstood the differences between general psychological occupations and therapeutic hands-on roles. Good tips for new and current students overall! 🙂

    • @mariagguerra
      @mariagguerra  Год назад +1

      Hi! Thanks a lot for your comment! ☺️ Where are you from? It’s interesting because it really changes from country to country, in Portugal and the UK for instance you have to do the undergrad in Psychology (which is very general yes) and then for the masters you choose the area, being it Clinical (Counseling is included here) Organizational, Educational, Forensic, etc.

    • @spectranwolfinfusion
      @spectranwolfinfusion Год назад

      @@mariagguerra I study at the University of Huddersfield (UK) 🙂 They also have a Psychology with Criminology course as well as a Psychology course, all of which are recognised with the BPS. I believe the University of Leeds (Trinity?) also offers similar courses

    • @spectranwolfinfusion
      @spectranwolfinfusion Год назад

      I believe that in 3rd year, the optional modules widen out between all 3 Psychology courses also. So there are modules on Clinical Psychology, States of Consciousness etc. What strikes me so far though it just how much I can tailor my interests to my work. For example, I'm particularly interested in personality and individual differences which has its own core module- yet I tend to include the theories and concepts within my work on the developmental module for example

    • @mariagguerra
      @mariagguerra  Год назад

      @@spectranwolfinfusion you’re right, now I remember that’s possible in the UK too!! I remember seeing those course options in the UK some years ago for I/O Psychology but the courses I was interested were not accredited by the BPS at the time, that’s why I kept assuming that. Thank you for correcting me!

And is there jobs available after graduating the bachelor degree or should we continue directly to masters degree? Thanks a tonnnn😭❤️

    • @mariagguerra
      @mariagguerra  3 года назад +5

      Hi Risha! Thank you so much for you comment! 🤍 Actually, before I wanted to graduate in Psychology, Medicine was my first choice too! I have some videos related to I/O Psychology and my experience at university that explain why I chose Psychology. In Portugal and the UK, at least, it's recommended to do a Master's Degree in Psychology after the Bachelor's. It is not mandatory, but if you want to become a psychologist or have more career options, it is extremely recommended that you do one! I hope it helped ☺️

    people on youtube come up with both positive and negative videos regarding their own personal experiences
    some of those negative videos regarding psychology major were horrifying with terrible clickbaits
    *reality of studying psychology* *reasons you shouldnt be taking psychology as major* blah blah
    but i have come to a point that no matter what im gonna make it!
    i know its a 4 years grad. 2 years masters 3 years phd and really competitive
    im a kind of a person that i would complete something i went into
    but why not doing something with interest and joy in it?!
    my dad wanted me to be a doctor but i couldnt have any sort of major interest in it

Due to covid, board result came out by the mid of oct and I didnt want to invest a whole year for shifting to canada. I planned as per the result declaration, as it was supposed to be declared by the end of August or start of September but it came out too late so the only document that I didnt have was my transcript. I planned to join any university in canada by January; the winter session. I hope you get the sketch 😂😂

      Usually you have to prove to a college that you're proficient in the official language of the country where the college is. If you haven't yet, look at the college's website to see what language certifications you might need. Expect as well to take some Portuguese as a second language writing courses before you take college level courses.

    So we have to be great at Stats? I HATED stats. And what's this with having talking points about things we never studied in class? That's why we go to class. To learn more. Not knowing is why I go. Haha. How much sense does that make that a portion of credit goes to stuff the teacher was never required to go over with us? I understand the whole "teach a man to fish" logic, but it seems lazy and manipulative to convince people to have to go this route. I thought a higher education would mean a more in depth look to theory rather than pulling concepts off of Google. What a waste of time and money. 2 more years to go for me... ugh.
