    Lewis’s “Mere Christianity” was an amazing introduction to Christianity for me when I was just starting out exploring the faith.

    Truly captivated by how Lewis manages to bridge the gap between various Christian traditions, including our cherished Orthodox brothers and sisters. 🙌 Yet, here's the curious part - how do we even discuss his profound impact without weaving in his timeless words? It's as if with Lewis, the very way he communicates becomes a vital part of the wisdom he imparts. 📚✨

    At a summer Christian gathering at a campground my sister would read from the Chronicles of Narnia to anyone who could fit in our tent in the early afternoon. I wish I had a copy of her Narnia books because any time anyone recognized something from scripture or philosophy or church history or the church Fathers they would raise a hand a share it, and she wrote the reference in the margin. In the first few books those margins were full with no room left to write more -- that's how rich his writing is.

    This was great, thank you! I know lots of folks led to Orthodoxy by starting out with C.S. Lewis. Kind of amazing the influence he has had.

    Not only was CS Lewis an intellectual giant. I believe he had a very profound awareness of the spiritual aspect of our existence. This is why his light has grown over decades.

    Lewis was key to bringing me to Orthodoxy. Interestingly enough, of all his works, his sci-fi novels, the Cosmic Trilogy, were what brought me the furthest along in that journey.

    His broadcasts on BBC to soldiers and airmen were developed in Mere Christianity as a paperback book and so became available to those who travelled on railways Post War. ( I believe from reading introductions to his work) Radio to servicemen and paperback books were the internet of that period in history . The railway station bookstalls were a great way of spreading serious books to travellers . along with detective novels. to while away the time on the cold miserable long distance .

    Have the Orthodox Elders ever considered Lewis' observation? - "The Christian is called, not to individualism but to membership in the mystical Body. A consideration of the differences between the secular collective and the mystical Body is therefore the first step to understanding how Christianity without being individualistic can yet counteract collectivism."[C S Lewis]

      Yes, Orthodox saints have stated that the experience is correctly about personhood in the Church not individualism.

      There’s nothing wrong talking about those outside of church, it as well helps those of the church be able to go look at his work in the Orthodox way.

    • @habibsabanekh2437
      @habibsabanekh2437 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@Iziah_Smith there is barely any need for the Orthodox to look outside. Any advice is in scripture and writing of the holy fathers within the boundaries of the church. Looking outside to find what exactly? The fullness of grace, not lacking any thing or a hint of deviousness, is within the church.

      Fr. Andrew is a CS Lewis scholar (from the time before he was ordained), otherwise he wouldn't be discussing CS Lewis. I try to ask interviewees questions about things that I know they have an expertise in. Also, many, many converts to Orthodoxy cite Lewis as an important influence on their path to Orthodoxy. And you are correct, the Church is glorious in Her Saints...as you may have noticed, I wrote a book on contemporary Greek elders (which I advertise in every video)...you can signup for our mailing list and get an abridged eBook at the link above!
