I met Walter in our Anglican days at ST MAry Mags in Oxford in the early 80's where he was on the clergy team and I was unemployed. I served him at "mass" and he was a great support during that sad period for me
All us lovers of Jack owe a big debt to Walter Hooper, I think his love for Jack was felt in every new book he put out.
I remember learning some years ago that a quality which C.S. Lewis possessed was unfailing courtesy. I see this quality profoundly in Mr. Hooper, a courtesy born from faith and love. I was moved by Tolkien's sensitivity to Mr. Hooper's grief. May he rest in peace and may perpetual light shine upon him.
Thank you for this video . Walter was my uncle , he was so intelligent , so dedicated , so charming, and so kind. I loved his humor. As a child I had a small dog , Walter suggested that I apologize to the little dog . He said his cats love it and my little dog probably would as well. Hahaha . Walter bought me my very own weight set when I was in my early teens , he found physical fitness to be very important . He will be missed .
Hearing of his passing to the next world and life made me, a big old Texan, weep. He is greatly missed; as men of his character, caliber and dignity are so desperately needed today - and always. God bless and keep you and yours!
~JL, Ph. D.
what a great story about Lewis
For a decade, Walter was the trustee of the Owen Barfield Literary Estate.
He had a 33-year affiliation with the Inkling author Owen Barfield, who was Lewis’s appointed Trustee.
We are grateful for the good-things that he did. May he rest in peace.
God's grace through the works of C.S. Lewis is amazing and Walter paid tribute to that so graciously.
Sad to hear this news. Walter Hooper was one of our living links with CS Lewis.
A kind hearted, gentle man. I am grateful to have met him and look forward to meeting him again when I leave the Shadowlands.
came here just after watching eric metaxas's 3-part interview with walter hooper. what a beautiful soul. sad to know of his passing, but i'm sure he had a full, joyful life, living out his apostolate under the light of cs lewis, as metaxas put it.
Thank you for putting this together and sharing it with us. So grateful.
