Lewis is unappreciated in England because a prophet is never recognized in his own country and among his own people. In the same vein, Lewis' works will only become more treasured through time as his prophecies prove true. God bless him. my eyes water up just at the thought of him.

He became a major influence on my early Christian development. What a blessing he is...and there aren't many 'modern' Christian writers that are read and admired by such a broad collection of Christians in different traditions: Baptists, Catholics, Anglican, Orthodox....

Regarding Lewis and Orthodoxy, an interesting side note is that the Zernovs were very close friends with both Lewis and Joy. Nicholas Zernov was the Spaulding Lecturer in Eastern Orthodoxy, a position held By Kallistos Ware upon his retirement. The Zernovs were one of only a few couples who were invited on a regular basis to the Kilns, receiving Joy’s approval and without the dislike of her American ways on their part whatsoever. Nicholas was also one of the few to attend Lewis’ funeral, placing, if I recall, the orthodox cross of flowers upon the casket.

@@glorianomad6350 Perhaps you've never experienced the work of one Christ's saints, living or dead. The very fact that you pose the question as if CS Lewis is in competition is quite sorrowful. James 5:19, 20 speaks of a brother who saves a wayward soul. God is not in competition with the creation, or the creature, that He has established. And yet He uses his creation to bring us back to Him.
The writings of CS Lewis were able to break through my hardened and misguided heart, not because of the power of CS Lewis, but by the grace of God working through the life and writings of one the many saints that God has called to participate in the life of His Son, our Lord.

I am Roman Catholic, I love Lewis and owe him so much... Maybe you disagree, but I am convinced that deep in his heart (maybe unknowingly)he must have been very close to Catholic Church. He was a medievalist and in middle ages England was catholic, so arts, literature and everything else was deeply catholic. It is difficult for me to believe that he didn't surrender to extreme charm od the middle ages.
