    You should make more of these videos because people, especially young people like myself don't really understand the concepts that make someone successful. They don't understand that in order to be successful they need permanent good habits. I know because I was one of them and RUclips actually helped me realize this. Keep up the good work!

    Totally agree with basically everything you said. I think when I was a kid, I would've failed the marshmallow test, but one day my mum saw me eating my lunch or whatever(I would've been about 5 or 6), and she said, "why don't you save the cookie for the end. That way, when you get to eat you're favourite part, it'll be more enjoyable, because you've waited for it, and you don't have to eat the less enjoyable stuff afterwards. To the mind of a 5 year old, this was basically like an epiphany to me😂. It sort of allows you to see the world in a new light: if I'm patient, I can experience a better outcome in the long run.

      I am kinda same as you it's just that I learned to wait on my own (self conscious ness) around the age of 9-10

      I used to do the same as a kid but then someone said something like what if you feel full after eatin all those veggies and then u dont have space for the cookie? Life is too short just do it 😢

    I've been struggling with a phone addiction. It started when I wanted to distract myself from my problems instead of dealing with them. But once I passed those problems in my life, I found that it was difficult to not use my phone all day. I hate that I'm wasting so much time, and videos like these inspire me to do greater things in my life. Thank you!

      Hey man, I feel you on this. a good step will be to get a lock box for your phone. This will eliminate the option of having your phone on your and force you to do something else. With time, you will build the dicipline to have your phone but not look at it. I got a lockbox for my phone on amazon and it has helped me a lot more than I expected. Let me know know if you need more info on the steps I am taking to change my phone addiction. Will be happy to share.

      Taking just a few minutes out of your day to meditate will help you in all areas of your life. You will more easily become aware of your unconscious activity, and then it will be easier to let it go. I recommend headspace, there is a free trial for 5-10 mins a day!

      @@GLopez-yg9gj I leave my phone in the living room at least an hour before I got to bed. It makes me wake up with a clearer mind and get my day started immediately

      As a part of gen z, and wanting to be rich and famous, I will say that we got so overwhelmed by those "must have gadgets for a happier year", "That girl must have", "Plan my year using my new planner" trends. It's exhausting. No one sets us for the mental work to be successful. It's always about the looks, the expensive smart watch, shoes, workout clothes, water bottle...And it took me a long time to figure out that this has nothing to do with becoming successful. It's the mental work. It's always the mental work.

      @@sebb I have no issue with the principle of the video itself; it is clear that an influx of dopamine is unhealthy and is a filler for any form of productivity that will contribute to success. However, the three parts of Sigmund Freud's 'Conscience' not 'personality' are merely a theory and can be proved to be pseudo scientific. I think addressing addiction is correct however maybe don't link it with something that was based on a small number of case studies on deemed 'mentally ill' patients by Freud.
      Overall, Great video though

    Being 21 and struggling with self motivation due to video games and just not being productive throughout the days.     Man i have to say one thing: Thank you!
    About 5 months ago i saw this video,i stopped partying and smoking.i stopped playing videogames often and I focused on mh srudying and bussiness.I improved my grades SIGNIFICANTLY(from C to A), i earn 5k a month(working 4h a day basically,not on sundays) and my friend cirle hasnt changed.I tought that I would lose friends who partied(most),but i didnt. People around me respect me more now and i do not seek dopamine anymore. I have a lot of goals for the future,which i didnt 5 months ago.

    Your point on the little pleasures feeling "wrong" is so spot on and actually gives me hope that even though I do fall back into old habits, I am casting votes for a productive and healthy lifestyle more than I am solidifying an unhealthy one. It's not about the slip ups because we all have that, we're human. Rather, asking yourself what feels normal and what feels wrong is truly revealing.

    - meet your id's needs with authentic experiences, not cheap substitutes (e.g. healthy meals instead of junk food, socializing instead of watching your favorite streamer, pursuing relationships instead of watching porn)

    Awesome content! Honestly, instant gratification is a financial killer and it pays to learn this earlier in life. But, if you can’t get rid of this habit, the remedy is consistent investing. This would help you grow wealth as it has helped me overtime. I earn over a thousand bucks daily to make sure that I and my family are good in these troubled times. Great piece!

    HOT TAKE: As a psychology major in college and as a guy who enjoys gaming, I think you are 100% right. I like how you addressed that easy and enjoyable activities are very distracting, but I don't think one should skip them completely, rather reduce/limit them. Gaming, for example, isn't wrong or bad in and of itself. If you have some obligations you really need to focus on (i.e. exams, projects, crucial tasks) at hand, then put your gaming on hold (unless it's part of your job; i.e. esports player/content creator) so that you can succeed in said task. After that, you can reward yourself in the end, but with limits. MODERATION IS KEY. Same goes for TV, junk food, social media and stuff. As I said, I suggest ideally strictly limiting consuming content to reasonable doses for self-rewarding after succeeding a hard task (homework, gym session, etc.)
    See, Instant gratification is like eating a whole tub of ice cream for dinner. Ice cream is delicious but very unhealthy in that big of a quantity. Delaying gratification is like instead eating an actually healthy dinner such as a fish/chicken/beef filet (imitation if you're vegan) with a side of potatoes and spinach, followed by a small serving of your top favorite ice cream flavor. The protein and vegetables actually have nutritional value, but they don't provide the same dopamine high as ice cream. You eat the protein and veggies, first, but in my version, you don't skip the ice cream completely. Just only take one small scoop for dessert.

      Yep, I find that the times I try to be too strict about being focused and do the “right thing”, eventually I bounce back hard, so ideally you want to find a balance that you can sustain over time

      I'm completely not a psychologist, but what I've noticed after paying some attention to my surroundings is that changing your mindset helps tremendously. Changing the way you think about some processess and outcomes can help you see the bigger picture. For example, I remember having troubles with studying for tests, thinking that I violate some sort of my "right to feel good" and that I'm not doing something that feels pleasant, as such I would be hurting myself and that would be against what I do want to do for myself. And while that worked for a long time, eventually I started thinking another way instead: "but if I don't actually study for the test, I'm going to feel even worse that I've failed it, and I'm going to hurt myself either way". This helped me massively, and not only with just studying, but it also shone some light on some other shitty habits I've maintained over the course of my life, like waking up at 4am for a longer day.
      (I hope what I wrote here made enough sense)

    I relate to this so much. I feel so guilty when I spend my day scrolling on social media and disregarding all the productive things that can improve my life quality physically and mentally, even spiritually.     Okay, this Video makes an extremely good point.
    Me and a Friend of mine were trying to figure out why we were so depressed all the time, and we kept calling the Internet "An Incurable Curse". So we finally came to the conclusion: If the Internet is a never ending curse, then the cure to it must be living in the real world. So for a few weeks we both extremely minimized Internet usage, and focused primarily on things in Real Life. And believe it or not, it made an extreme difference in the quality of our Lives. We were more healthy, more happy, and had better relationships with our Families.
    This Video really explains the Principles behind this, and in a really amazing and informative way. Anyway, you were wondering what we think of this kind of Video, I really like it, it's a really special and useful format. Keep up the good work man, you're a really awesome guy.

    I totally appreciated this kind of content man. There was definitely a lot I learned in this that I didn't know before. I definitely knew that delayed gratification was necessary for success but the way you broke it down made it make all the more sense. For the marshmallow experiment I kept thinking about those social experiences where they offer to give strangers money or double it and give it to someone else. Of course not the same thing as that looks at feeding your super ego versus your ID and not just feeding or starving the ID like in the marshmallow experiment.

    I agree with what this guys saying in this video. i go through stages of feeling like im really living and keep up these healthy habits that he mentions in this video, but then sometimes i get sucked back into the matrix of all the BS, causing me to feel these feelings of depression and not feeling good about myself. so thanks for this reminder.

    I love this! Lately I have been feeling like my brain is started to rot due to my consumption of those immediately gratifying things. It is so easy to become unhappy with your life circumstances. As a result of this many people choose to chase after those immediate yet fleeting doses of dopamine. This video was the last push that I needed to finally make a change and shift my focus on what’s most important. I just deleted all of the games and media apps on my phone. I will also be unplugging my Xbox because I have realized that those things do not add to my life!! Thanks again for the video, I love what you’re doing!!

    Just been forwarded a selection of your videos by my daughter who is 18 and just building her business and I have enjoyed them all as I want to upscale my own endeavours and you make complete sense. As a parent this video is so true - it saddens me that so many young people are detached from being human & experiencing all that is around them because they are on SM & their devices. We are heading for a complete societal disaster and lack of freedom if the trend continues so please keep up the great work - we need more young people like you and your followers.     Hi! I really enjoyed this new video style you're trying out. I'm really glad you brought attention to how bad instant gratification is. I'm currently a freshman and at the stage in my life in which I'm trying to become the best person I can be (flexible, positive, kind to themselves, hardworking) and I really got how important delaying instant gratification is when you used the example of working out. I've finally gotten to a stage where I see a lot of progress as a piano player after playing for 7 years and I needed that little reminder that everything takes time. So thank you.     A suggestion for a video is about how to nurture close relationships while building wealth, as I've noticed a trend in particularly males striving for success (the masculin energy), and then regretting how they let relationships deteriorate because of not knowing how to properly nurture them (the feminine energy). And since all areas of life are related, when one takes a hit, the others do too. I feel that you have the integrity to speak on this. :)

    I think for the marshmallow test I’d like to know more about the differences between the home lives of the instant gratification kids vs delayed gratification kids. A lot of the adult consequences of seeking instant gratification, drug usage, debt, health issues, etc., are also symptoms of growing up in abusive/neglectful households. Or maybe just growing up poor where your parents were trying real hard but couldn’t provide all the essentials like their full attention for deep connection, nutritious meals, social interaction, etc. So what were these children lacking that they couldn’t wait to satisfy this urge? Maybe a patient adult that can teach them discipline?
    Idk it just feels shitty to put it all on these kids’ impulse control. Like either you’re born with it or not. I think it can be more helpful for people that do have impulse control issues to have more context and understand what they can improve on. For example whenever I don’t eat lots of fiber and nutrient rich foods, like fruits and veg, I find myself craving shitty food a lot more and caving into these cravings. I could label it as an impulse control issue like fuck I can’t control my cravings vs I’ve been eating like crap so my body is desperate for more food because it hasn’t received what it actually needs. For those of you that struggle to eat enough fruits and veggies I recently started making liquid salad. It’s just throwing a bunch of fruits, greens, and veggies into a blender and drinking it up. If you put in lots of blue berries and other fruits it’s not that gross 😅 it’s helped me tons and relieves a ton of stress and pressure to cook veggies.

    Great Content! Instant Gratification is so common now and people know it's bad for them but they still do it coz they're now chained with it. If u want to change you have to struggle a bit and you'll be different from the crowd you're surrounded with but your future self will thank you if u do so.
