Third variation if it takes more than two minutes: do it for two minutes, and if you notice you feel well enough to continue, do it! If you focus on a task for just two minutes you will usually trick your brain into wanting to continue the task. If you still have a hard time after two minutes, don’t force it- might be your body telling you to take an active break (I.e. go on a walk, stretch, eat a healthy snack, etc) and then come back and try the task again for two minutes.

    • @dromedda6810

I don't have adhd, but I'm pretty sure I'm somewhat autistic. What helps me start things is making everything else a chore. For example if I need to study: I tell myself I'm just going to open all that I need. The paper, my text editor, the assignment. And I layout it all out on my desktop as if I was gonna get started but with the intention of not actually doing anything. If that doesn't get me going i then go do some small task like browse the fridge or just have a look outside and when I come back it's more of a chore to close everything and do something else than it is to get started. Also writing all of thoughts down as they come to me help get rid of it from my brain

    • @graciouscompetentdwarfrabbit
      @graciouscompetentdwarfrabbit Год назад +7

@@veronica-AM i tried it but journaling (bullet and regular) just felt like another chore for me (specially the bullet type, because I'd waste like 30 minutes laying out my entire day instead of actually doing something), the only thing that has kinda of helped is trying to (kinda) "gamefy" some of the habits I that I really want to implement in my life, for that I used an app called Loop Habits or something like that, which is less distracting that Habitica (which is the one that does kinda gamefy your habits)

@@graciouscompetentdwarfrabbitBullet journaling is supposed to be fast and loose. I tended toward borderline chaos when I did it. I was listening to a podcast that said, “it’s important to live life by design rather than emotion. Basically, sticking to a routine is what allows us to be the healthiest version of ourselves (especially when you're fighting these demons ex. OCD for me).
I’ve had to overhaul how I approach taking care of my brain (exercise, journaling, studying etc) by practising mediocre consistency. Now I try to put in consistent 50-60% effort into my journaling habit - to make sure I do it I began recording it and posting it on YT. After a really bad depression phase I started to believe I couldn’t change and I’d feel that horrible forever.
Historically I have a habit of going too hard, not being able to sustain the Herculean effort, giving up and hating myself. So now I’m trying to give a small, consistent mediocre effort everyday. And its crazy how it adds up.

Alright, here's my story that kinda relates...
I work in IT and we have kanban system in place (many of you might know it), so part of the system is a "backlog". Sorta "to-do list" where all newly created task go at first, then it reviewed by the project leader to get thing prioritised. Something critical goes first to an "in progress" step, something that's not and can stay in a backlog for a while. Sorry for that long intro, the story needs it.
So, anyway. I got on of these backlog tasks applied to me and marked as non-critical. It was a bug in our software, giant-ass one that i thought i would spend days maybe weeks fixing it.
Everytime i looked at this task i thought: "For god's sake, i'm too busy for it right now" and keep to pospone it. Again, again and again. Months(!) after, i said to myself: "Fuck it. It's now or never". I was so nervous about i might spend for it so much time cause, i might recall, i thought this bug would take ages to fix. So, i moved the task to "In progress", opened up the code sequence and it took me 14 minutes to get things right.... 14 damn minutes, dude... Even the project manager said:"Woah! That went in "Done" section way faster than i thought i would"
I never postponed a thing in my life since then.

This is 1000% on point! This is the method I used to become consistent with working out. I used to stick to working out, at home or going to the gym, for maybe 4 weeks then run into a reason to stop. In 2019 I decided that every day I was going to at least do 10 pushups or some pull-ups, squats.. anything, even if it only took me 2 minutes, as long as I did some sort of exercise to build the habit. Now I feel weird if I don't workout in some way every day.

Here are two strategies that you can try to help you beat procrastination:
1/ The Two-Minute Rule: This rule states that any task that can be completed in two minutes or less should be done immediately. This rule helps to tackle small tasks that might otherwise be put off, and it can also help to build momentum for tackling larger tasks.
2/ The Pomodoro Technique: This technique involves setting a timer for 25 minutes and working on a task until the timer goes off. After the timer goes off, you take a short break (usually 5 minutes), and then you repeat the process. This technique helps to break up tasks into manageable chunks, which can make them feel less overwhelming.
I hope these strategies are helpful in helping you to beat procrastination!

I might not have tried the strategies yet, but I can't say how much I agree with that. I remember I used to do a lot of different things as a kid, and it's so easy to do it when it's already in your comfort zone.
I went to a Tae Kwon Do dojo to train three times a week, and had to walk 1,5km (almost a mile) to get there and then back, and I could do it so easily, even more than once a day, since I did that same walk for school, and even everyday when I was only a few weeks shy from a belt test, including Saturday mornings.
Nowadays I'll be avoiding to try new gyms in like half the distance...

    in brief:
The video is a personal productivity tip sharing session by a med student who has read several productivity books and successfully applied some of their principles to his studies.
The two main rules the video covers are both two-minute rules:
    1. The first two-minute rule is from David Allen's "Getting Things Done".
It suggests that if a task takes less than two minutes to complete, it should be done immediately rather than written down or put off.
This approach helps prevent procrastination and ensures small tasks aren't forgotten or unnecessarily delayed.
Examples include taking out the trash, organizing your desk, or watering your plants.
    2. The second two-minute rule is from James Clear's "Atomic Habits".
This rule suggests simplifying a daunting task down to a two-minute version of it.
For instance, an extensive reading assignment could be broken down to just reading one paragraph or memorizing the periodic table could be simplified to memorizing just 10 flashcards.
The goal here is not to complete the task but to establish a habit of starting it.
The speaker shares his personal experience of using this rule to establish a daily study habit in med school.
The speaker acknowledges that these might seem like mind tricks, but emphasizes their usefulness in building habits and combating procrastination.
He encourages viewers to start small when establishing new habits and offers more productivity tips in other videos.

I've been embarrassed and scolded upon enough by my teachers. I am ashamed to step into college.
Sure I would love to First make a habit of starting to study without exceptions progressively day by day but there's too much work to do so, and teachers won't be allowing this. :D everytime I open my textbook to read chapters and highlight imp points etc., or watch youtube explanation videos, I GET "TIRED ALREADY" AND SLEEP IN MY DESK AND GET SCOLDED LATER BY MUM LIKE WTF??

But like any talent, you have to start with the basics. Start with idk, for example a skateboard, start with standing on the board, then standing on the board with one foot, then push, learn basics first, then expand on harder stuff when you master the basics.

And she challenged me to study for 15 minutes a day, that’s it!Once I was committed to that 15 min, I was able to become the person that I wanted to be-one who studied at least one hour a day. I’ve grown in various ways applying this concept. It does work!

Love it! The book is amazing. But it was really good to be reminded. And I really appreciate that you value our time by getting straight to the point and not making a 10-minute video out of it 👌🏽

If things take 2 minutes to do them, I literally do them to procrastinate the things I actually wanna get done… there’s a lot of 2 minute things you can find if you look hard enough
