Third variation if it takes more than two minutes: do it for two minutes, and if you notice you feel well enough to continue, do it! If you focus on a task for just two minutes you will usually trick your brain into wanting to continue the task. If you still have a hard time after two minutes, don’t force it- might be your body telling you to take an active break (I.e. go on a walk, stretch, eat a healthy snack, etc) and then come back and try the task again for two minutes.
i'm watching this as an ADHD person trying to find ways to overcome the struggle with task initiation in my everyday life and i am so grateful to you for making this a literally-two-minute video. i was able to watch, focus, and digest the information all at once :) thank you
I don't have adhd, but I'm pretty sure I'm somewhat autistic. What helps me start things is making everything else a chore. For example if I need to study: I tell myself I'm just going to open all that I need. The paper, my text editor, the assignment. And I layout it all out on my desktop as if I was gonna get started but with the intention of not actually doing anything. If that doesn't get me going i then go do some small task like browse the fridge or just have a look outside and when I come back it's more of a chore to close everything and do something else than it is to get started. Also writing all of thoughts down as they come to me help get rid of it from my brain
@@veronica-AM i tried it but journaling (bullet and regular) just felt like another chore for me (specially the bullet type, because I'd waste like 30 minutes laying out my entire day instead of actually doing something), the only thing that has kinda of helped is trying to (kinda) "gamefy" some of the habits I that I really want to implement in my life, for that I used an app called Loop Habits or something like that, which is less distracting that Habitica (which is the one that does kinda gamefy your habits)
@@graciouscompetentdwarfrabbitBullet journaling is supposed to be fast and loose. I tended toward borderline chaos when I did it. There's this nice mix of structure and slapping things wherever they fit in whatever orientation they need to be in, then draw arrows between things if necessary. Kinda like using post-its.
That works on the flipside for bad habits too - I literally have my tv/xbox unplugged and sat high up on my wardrobe so it becomes a chore in itself to use them.
I was listening to a podcast that said, “it’s important to live life by design rather than emotion. Basically, sticking to a routine is what allows us to be the healthiest version of ourselves (especially when you're fighting these demons ex. OCD for me). I’ve had to overhaul how I approach taking care of my brain (exercise, journaling, studying etc) by practising mediocre consistency. Now I try to put in consistent 50-60% effort into my journaling habit - to make sure I do it I began recording it and posting it on YT. After a really bad depression phase I started to believe I couldn’t change and I’d feel that horrible forever. Historically I have a habit of going too hard, not being able to sustain the Herculean effort, giving up and hating myself. So now I’m trying to give a small, consistent mediocre effort everyday. And its crazy how it adds up.
@@farmgirl7891 It’s here! It’s an OCD podcast but I think the main points can be extrapolated for anyone: ruclips.net/video/CGyW1Rp1Y2g/видео.html&ab_channel=TheOCDStories
This also helps if you have ADHD/ADD. I make small things happen first, like gather the things needed to do a task. Then later when passing by I might get the urge to just pick up the things and start the task. Probably i won’t finish it 😂 but at least I got started and something was done!

I appreciate very much the 2-minute rule from Atomic Habits because if you study for just 2 minute not only you get started, but you also develop interest in the study material.
You won't retain any information from studying for 2 minutes at a time, compared to someone who sat down & studied for an hour or two. There is no logic from your statement.
@@CarnageJesterX How? If you studied for 2 minutes, you know it will end soon and will most likely pay your full attention because why not? It's just 2 minutes. That way, you'll actually retain a lot of information, a significant amount of what you studied (which may not actually be a significant amount of total study material). Anyway, that's not the point. The point is to develop a habit of showing up to study every single day. Once it actually becomes a habit, you're free to start studying for 5 minutes everyday. Then when that turns into a habit, study 10. Then 20, 30, 40 and eventually you will reach the one hour mark In Sha Allah.

Alright, here's my story that kinda relates... I work in IT and we have kanban system in place (many of you might know it), so part of the system is a "backlog". Sorta "to-do list" where all newly created task go at first, then it reviewed by the project leader to get thing prioritised. Something critical goes first to an "in progress" step, something that's not and can stay in a backlog for a while. Sorry for that long intro, the story needs it. So, anyway. I got on of these backlog tasks applied to me and marked as non-critical. It was a bug in our software, giant-ass one that i thought i would spend days maybe weeks fixing it. Everytime i looked at this task i thought: "For god's sake, i'm too busy for it right now" and keep to pospone it. Again, again and again. Months(!) after, i said to myself: "Fuck it. It's now or never". I was so nervous about i might spend for it so much time cause, i might recall, i thought this bug would take ages to fix. So, i moved the task to "In progress", opened up the code sequence and it took me 14 minutes to get things right.... 14 damn minutes, dude... Even the project manager said:"Woah! That went in "Done" section way faster than i thought i would" I never postponed a thing in my life since then.

This is 1000% on point! This is the method I used to become consistent with working out. I used to stick to working out, at home or going to the gym, for maybe 4 weeks then run into a reason to stop. In 2019 I decided that every day I was going to at least do 10 pushups or some pull-ups, squats.. anything, even if it only took me 2 minutes, as long as I did some sort of exercise to build the habit. Now I feel weird if I don't workout in some way every day.
Thank you so much! I have to work out very often, too and I didn’t think I could apply the rule to this, too. I only thought of studying. But since I struggle so much with doing my exercises regularly, I think when I tell myself to only do them for 2min every day, it will work out fine. Thanks! :)

Hidden Time Wealth is so unique. I can’t believe I hadn’t heard about it sooner. It’s amazing how life-changing this can be for anyone battling procrastination.
This video CHANGED MY LIFE! NGL, it hit me smack in the face. 2 mins! I can do lotsa stuff in 2 min. And what i found is that id finish the 1st 2-min task and see another 2-min task and do it. Then another and another, and so on...its like a body in motion stays in motion. And i didnt feel all the pressure to keep going because i knew i could stop at any time. Wow!! Something so simple was actually very profound.

Here are two strategies that you can try to help you beat procrastination: 1/ The Two-Minute Rule: This rule states that any task that can be completed in two minutes or less should be done immediately. This rule helps to tackle small tasks that might otherwise be put off, and it can also help to build momentum for tackling larger tasks. 2/ The Pomodoro Technique: This technique involves setting a timer for 25 minutes and working on a task until the timer goes off. After the timer goes off, you take a short break (usually 5 minutes), and then you repeat the process. This technique helps to break up tasks into manageable chunks, which can make them feel less overwhelming. I hope these strategies are helpful in helping you to beat procrastination!
Ty so much I will do this on a daily basis. Because yes I was doing something like that and them having the feeling I wasn't doing enough. Some times im too hard on my self but I liked what you said we all have to start at one point. And if I regulate my time to 2 minutes on all my tasks I can overcome the fear of failure which is the reason of my procrastination. Tyvm bro ❤
You know this actually makes sense and I can see it working just by hearing.... I got exhausted working out cause I was doing a lot of routine exercises everyday and I just got tired of it,I'm gonna rethink that with this in mind...thanks a lot 😊
"A habit needs to be estabilished before it can be expanded upon". I might not have tried the strategies yet, but I can't say how much I agree with that. I remember I used to do a lot of different things as a kid, and it's so easy to do it when it's already in your comfort zone. I went to a Tae Kwon Do dojo to train three times a week, and had to walk 1,5km (almost a mile) to get there and then back, and I could do it so easily, even more than once a day, since I did that same walk for school, and even everyday when I was only a few weeks shy from a belt test, including Saturday mornings. Nowadays I'll be avoiding to try new gyms in like half the distance...
This makes so much sense. I'm such a procrastinator especially with studying and cleaning, but recently I've told myself I'll clean something for just 10 minutes a day and it actually does make a difference! I'm going to start with the study thing next thanks!
I don't know how I stumbled upon your channel but I'm so happy I did! I've "Liked" and Subscribed :) I have practiced the 2-minute rule for years now and it is a life-changer. You're right, by the time it takes you to write yourself a reminder note, the task I was writing down often times could have already been completed. I think your idea of keeping the video to 2-minutes was a creative idea. I've read Atomic Habits and it's fantastic. I'll be checking out your other videos. Thank you again. Happy New Year!
in brief: The video is a personal productivity tip sharing session by a med student who has read several productivity books and successfully applied some of their principles to his studies. The two main rules the video covers are both two-minute rules: 1. The first two-minute rule is from David Allen's "Getting Things Done". It suggests that if a task takes less than two minutes to complete, it should be done immediately rather than written down or put off. This approach helps prevent procrastination and ensures small tasks aren't forgotten or unnecessarily delayed. Examples include taking out the trash, organizing your desk, or watering your plants. 2. The second two-minute rule is from James Clear's "Atomic Habits". This rule suggests simplifying a daunting task down to a two-minute version of it. For instance, an extensive reading assignment could be broken down to just reading one paragraph or memorizing the periodic table could be simplified to memorizing just 10 flashcards. The goal here is not to complete the task but to establish a habit of starting it. The speaker shares his personal experience of using this rule to establish a daily study habit in med school. The speaker acknowledges that these might seem like mind tricks, but emphasizes their usefulness in building habits and combating procrastination. He encourages viewers to start small when establishing new habits and offers more productivity tips in other videos.

The "getting the small tasks done" is actually really amazing. Makes you feel a drive of productivity too. Lmao Atomic Habits is a good book bht as a student I cannot study for TWO minutes and not study the rest of the evening-night (Morning to evening college) I've been embarrassed and scolded upon enough by my teachers. I am ashamed to step into college. Sure I would love to First make a habit of starting to study without exceptions progressively day by day but there's too much work to do so, and teachers won't be allowing this. :D everytime I open my textbook to read chapters and highlight imp points etc., or watch youtube explanation videos, I GET "TIRED ALREADY" AND SLEEP IN MY DESK AND GET SCOLDED LATER BY MUM LIKE WTF??
As someone who might have ADHD, the problem with 2 minutes rules is that it solves procrastination but threw my priorities out of the window since I notice tons of 2 minis tasks all the time. Like when I clean the dishes, I’ll just go on a streak of chores and exhaust myself from doing more important tasks. And guess what I do after the streak? Procrastinate!
MAKES SO MUCH SENSE! I can't believe people are missing this while learning how to study, including me, start easy. I've always said, I will study 2 hours a day and do it for a week and stop. But like any talent, you have to start with the basics. Start with idk, for example a skateboard, start with standing on the board, then standing on the board with one foot, then push, learn basics first, then expand on harder stuff when you master the basics.

Thx! You are so right-you are becoming the person you want to be and you have to begin somewhere! I met with my advising counselor when I was in school for medical coder, and I was really bummed that I could not study for one hour a day. And she challenged me to study for 15 minutes a day, that’s it!Once I was committed to that 15 min, I was able to become the person that I wanted to be-one who studied at least one hour a day. I’ve grown in various ways applying this concept. It does work!

For individual investors, it is important to exercise caution in investment decisions and fully understand the balance between risk and reward
Thanks it works🖤

i'm watching this as an ADHD person trying to find ways to overcome the struggle with task initiation in my everyday life and i am so grateful to you for making this a literally-two-minute video. i was able to watch, focus, and digest the information all at once :) thank you
I have heard bullet journaling helps some people with ADHD
Which podcast ?
@@farmgirl7891 It’s here! It’s an OCD podcast but I think the main points can be extrapolated for anyone: ruclips.net/video/CGyW1Rp1Y2g/видео.html&ab_channel=TheOCDStories
Thank you for sharing, Proud of you! 👏🏼
This also helps if you have ADHD/ADD. I make small things happen first, like gather the things needed to do a task. Then later when passing by I might get the urge to just pick up the things and start the task. Probably i won’t finish it 😂 but at least I got started and something was done!
Glad you got better! What podcast did you get the inspiration from?
"A habit needs to be established before it can be expanded upon" That is mindblowing advice! Thanks!!

10 min isn’t daunting you’re just fucked over through mindless hours of yt shorts and tiktok. go outside

That went in "Done" section way faster than i thought i would"
I never postponed a thing in my life since then.

Thanks! :)
now i started going on walks and slowly working out (due to upper back problem),and my physiotherapist started gradually adding more exercises and eventually i got used to it and added myself more,no idea how i even stuck to the habit of walking🤷♀️
i haven't understood really how to apply the tips to studying cause i really saw the 2 min thing useless but your comment made me look on this the other way around!thank you☺️
Ive been trying to get back into the habit of working out! Ive always has the go big or go home mentality, but lately my consistency hasn't been great and I've needed other alternatives. Im going to try this to just get back into the habit!

Creating good habits and eliminating bad ones is the key. Thank you for this 2 minutes video. 😁👍

Here are two strategies that you can try to help you beat procrastination:
1/ The Two-Minute Rule: This rule states that any task that can be completed in two minutes or less should be done immediately.

Man that line " A habit needs to be established first, before it can be expanded " was lit 🔥.
Possibly the most important video I've seen this week.
Thank you for the advice. I really need it rn, cause sometimes I feel tired or sorta lazy to do something but now I find what I was looking for.
Happy New Year!
in brief:
The video is a personal productivity tip sharing session by a med student who has read several productivity books and successfully applied some of their principles to his studies.
The two main rules the video covers are both two-minute rules:
22/24 marks, 14 for content, 8 for structure
The quote "A habit must be established before it can be expanded upon." kicked in like truck.
I start right now to write down those Mini Habits in my journal.

Thank you for such amazing vids! Could you sometimes make a video about how to study with depression? It's a complicated toppic, but sometimes you just Have to study even if you don't feel okay... ♥️
I have a better idea . Let's ask them to make a video on "How to study when you have stage 4 cancer?" .....Bro whatever it is , no matter how bad it seems there's always help present . And there is a reason why depression is called an "illness" , it's not just a "state of mind" . GET HELP
"Bro", depression isn't something that goes away in a week or two, often it takes years to work with it so that you're okay and even then it's not perfect. I personally have PTSD. I got help. It never really goes away, you know? It's been 9 years now, I know how to deal with it and it's just occasional thing for me rn, but it takes the same amount of years to heal as it took to "break you". Get educated.

Lmao Atomic Habits is a good book bht as a student I cannot study for TWO minutes and not study the rest of the evening-night (Morning to evening college)
I've been embarrassed and scolded upon enough by my teachers.

My mom was never a bookworm. But this is one of the life lessons I learned from her. She told us, If there’s something that you needed to do that would only take 2 minutes of your time, do it NOW. 😊
