Reminds me of university level French. Also, surprisingly, through the years I have found I do use "conversational phrases' alot in English, which people think are cliche: like "what nice weather we have now!" (or something similar) And I chat with my own closest relatives about the same things in adulthood that I did in childhood, like holidays, etc. You think those things are dumb, but sometimes superficial chat is an icebreaker. .
