@@BoardGameBollocks I thought it was pretty good. Played similarly to Specter Ops but I think it also moves faster. The bag building is fun and it definitely has some good tension.
I have only played this game once so I probably can't review it completely, yet, I thought that the negatives vere a bit too much. 1. Not a hidden movement game? How is it not? Just because you have to reveal yourself a couple of times? I find this a strange con. Maybe you wanted a hidden movement game where you are hidden all the time, but that does not mean that the game is not a hidden movement game. Then the argument that you are hidden only when you can't do anything? Yes, sometimes you won't have many or any attack cards. Yet, it is your job to get the attack cards from the draft or the Beastly talents row. Yet, there are other reasons to stay hidden: prepare for the next day by summoning minions, escaping from the hunters when they know where you are, getting closer to the targets you need to kill and win the game, etc. 2. I agree that the monster movement tracking system should be improved. The way how I worked around this was by using the little pieces from the standees (that go at the bottom of the standee itself) to create a road from my starting position to my current position. Thus, I never had to look at the movement cards that I had played before. I agree that this is a con. Yet, it does not ruin the game since you can use other tokens to create a road between your starting location to your current location and there is the app. 3. Yes, the only real basic action is to sac a card to move 1 location. Yet, again, you should have made sure that you have enough stuff to do by drafting the proper cards. In a 3 player game, as the monster I get 4 extra cards from drafting. Make sure that you draft both orange and blue icon cards not just one color (in a turn you can play one blue and one orange icon card). Make sure that you take away strong cards from the opponent and then just sacrifice them for movement if they are useless to you. If you are worried about not having cool enough cards: get a card, if you can, that allows you to take a card from the Beastly talents (monster) or Item (hunter) row. This is not really a con, but a strategic, tactical consideration that you have to make to work around the lack of basic actions. Maybe the game should have had more basic actions, but because it does not: the drafting becomes more important and fun. I want to draft cool cards, not do Basic actions. 4. Is this the most climatic game? No! Yet, the time I played the game, the two hunters had figured out what settlement I will go to kill the final civilian I needed to win the game. I hoped that they would go the other way, but they did not. We all did our best to reach the location as fast as we could. The day ended. Nobody was able to gain upgrades. The start of the next day: as the monster I have this last final day to kill the civilian or I loose. If they can prevent me from killing the last civilian or kill me: they win (unlikely, I have lost only 1 out of 5 health). The hunters already have 1 damage on them and only have 3 life total. High stakes, since I could kill one of them by using my sword token (+1 damage = 2 samage). During the next day, I did my best to take away as many attack cards as I could, preventing them from attacking me. I do not care if they reveal me since I will need to reveal myself anyway. I also was listening to what they were planing an realised that one of them will go searching for me (they do not have good or any attack cards) and the other one has actually acquired some more attack cards (drafting) to attack me. Thus, I ignored the searcher and attacked the other hunter: paralising them (my monster upgrade). This allowed me to skip past the attacker into the city and attack the civilian, killing them with 2 damage (1 damage +1 sword) and wining the game. Not super climatic, but the stakes are always high.
@BoardGameBollocks I agree that I have not seen everything what the game has to offer. This makes me biased to some degree. Yet, how does my lack of game sessions negate all the things that I wrote? Whether you have played the game 100 times or 5 times, you can fix the monster hidden movement tracking by using any small tokens to track the path between your starting location (where you last revealed yourself) and your current location.

6:08 How can you complain about both the fact that there's "no" hidden movement and then claim that you have to track movement over the course of an hour of gameplay? Every time the beast reveals itself, the movement cards are discarded, because you don't need to track it anymore - it's been found! So which is it? Is the beast always being revealed, in which case you'll never have more than a negligible stack of movement cards? Or does the movement card stack get too overwhelming, in which case the beast has been hidden the whole time? And at 7:32, how have most of your games ended with the beast killing a hunter? You don't lose if a hunter dies. The hunter comes back the next day. Is it maybe possible that your complaints come from you just not understanding how to play the game?
I hadn’t seen The Beast but long before you revealed the fact I had figured out “this is a Kick$hitter product”. I like The Fury of Dracula (GW 1st Ed) for all its flaws.
NIght and Day Phase? Hidden Movement.. My god this just seems like Fury Of Dracula! (lovely game, i have the GW and the FFG versions) Great video as always mate! Keep it up!
My first dislike on this channel. Totally disagree on the negative. Cards are not collected in such a pile - the beast appears earlier and the entire deck is discarded. What do you mean it's not covert movement? In Dracula, you can also find Dracula and he will stop hiding. Dracula feels like an outdated long craft compared to the beast. I'm very disappointed with your verdict
I think there is a really good game underneath it all, but the first issue is the imprecise rulebook. Second issue are some questionable production decisions. That is expected from the first time KS. I do think that majority of criticism stems from the fact that people are mad that the game frame itself as a hidden movement game, when in actuality it's not. The fact is that the designers AFAIK haven't labeled it like that, and the obvious inspiration was a video game Evolve, which IS NOT a hidden movement game, but one-vs-many action game (actually FPS) with elements of hidden movement. The important part in Evolve and in Beast is to develop a strategy for honing your skills and weapons in order to be more efficient in wounding an enemy once it's revealed. It's more important to be able to do a significant damage to the beast once it's revealed and to be able to be more deadly as a beast once the settler is in your reach than to just reveal the beast and expect that this is a crux of the game. So, to sum it up, you should be pissed at the YT shills more than the designers, as they didn't frame the game as a hidden movement one. Some obvious errors in the video: 1. Once you're revealed, you discard your movements cards. If you play against 2 decent hunters, either they are retarded or they will manage to hunt you down with you having max 4-5 cards. If it's too much to remember, you can use small cubes. 2. You have a flee action which means that you can ALWAYS discard one card on your turn and move 1 space. So you're not stuck. You cannot combine flee with playing the card, but people cannot make you stagnant by only hate drafting. 3. You don't discard items and beastly talents at the end of the round. You discard leftovers from the marketplace, you only discard action cards from your hands. (passing by counting actions cards of all opponents is pretty clunky though) These errors make a huge difference in a gaming experience. While all that information is inside the rulebook (also, the one where you have to put a reveal token once you pass over the hunter or the settler which also is thematically sound), they could've done more graphically to make it easy to understand. Many people have similar questions, which means that the rulebook is not that good (although I had almost 0 questions after reading it, I admit that the wording and examples could be way better). But in order to fully experience the game, I do think that you should try to play it with that errors fixed and having in mind that you're not playing a hidden movement game.
For the reference: 1. Page 11: "Flee: Discard 1 card of any type to move 1 step. You cannot combine this with playing a card." 2. Page 15: "Gain item: Whenever a hunter plays an effect that says gain an Item, that hunter chooses either one of the face up Items or takes the top card of the deck. Items are one-time use and Items in hand at night are not discarded." 3. Page 15: "Gain beastly talent: Whenever the Beast plays an effect that says gain Beastly talents, the Beast chooses one of the face up Beastly talents or takes the top card of the deck. Beastly talents are one-time use and Talents in hand at night are not discarded."
Same here, I think the problem is on the rulebook and the lack of clarity. The screen system help the beast player to keep track of the real movement. Is clumsy... Yes really clumsy but not unplayable. About actions, is a draft, so you need to keep track of your picks instead of taking cards just by picking. This game is about balancing the actions. You still have a basic action of movement discarding a card. I totally understand your frustration, and this is happening to a lot of people. You miss the opportunity to have a great experience because of the unclarity.
@rootedLabs I did mention the discard a card to move so it’s not an error. Also the video is t a tutorial and only a brief overview so if I missed out a rule it’s because it’s was either obvious or not relevant.
i did make the mistake of backing this; not only is the game subpar but the way they handled the campaign, shipping, and especially pricing was absolute dogshit. i wished i had played whitehall instead every time ive played beast. it does have fantastic art, though.

My complaints come from the game being crap
Hah - well done. Back to Mr. X then!
Too much hype about this game, I didn't believe it and didn't buy it. Now after your video I convinced that I am right
Linford Christie...disappointing. becoming more vague as time passes, but not on the Cyril smith/ Gareth Hunt level..
Americans will be confused by the cultural references in this video.
@@BoardGameBollocks As an American, I feel confused generally.
Yep...point proven. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for saving me money 😊m
LoL absolutely murdered, you sure this is legal on utube?? :DD
I hadn’t seen The Beast but long before you revealed the fact I had figured out “this is a Kick$hitter product”.
I like The Fury of Dracula (GW 1st Ed) for all its flaws.
LOVE Fury of Dracula! such a great game
NIght and Day Phase? Hidden Movement.. My god this just seems like Fury Of Dracula! (lovely game, i have the GW and the FFG versions) Great video as always mate! Keep it up!
Yes... Our Guardian of the Kalaxes. Shooting down BS-games since '09.
Mind MGMT is the best hidden movement game to date if you ask me (ok, i know you didn't).
Just bought MGMT.
👍
My first dislike on this channel. Totally disagree on the negative. Cards are not collected in such a pile - the beast appears earlier and the entire deck is discarded. What do you mean it's not covert movement? In Dracula, you can also find Dracula and he will stop hiding. Dracula feels like an outdated long craft compared to the beast. I'm very disappointed with your verdict
Dracula can act while hidden whereas in Beast you can’t. I found that bizarre.
Some obvious errors in the video:
(passing by counting actions cards of all opponents is pretty clunky though)
These errors make a huge difference in a gaming experience.
For the reference:
1. Page 11: "Flee: Discard 1 card of any type to move 1 step. You cannot combine this with playing a card."
2. Page 15: "Gain item: Whenever a hunter plays an effect that says gain an Item, that hunter chooses either one of the face up Items or takes the top card of the deck. Items are one-time use and Items in hand at night are not discarded."
"Backing" games and playing games are two different hobbies. Looks like you learned that. Stop backing so much (and bragging about it) and try playing games that you already own.
Yes. This game is garbage.
