I lost ~60lbs in 4 months. It was... insane. [Edit: Oh and I did 16g carbs a day. All used on butter-drenched broccoli, or popping a few almonds. If I needed a cheat, I ate a few bites of cheese cake maybe on the weekend; and right before bed, had a few teaspoons of the fattiest whipped cream so I had those cuddly feels.) Never exceeded 20g carbs. Most days, 8-16g.

    • @Aelea
      @Aelea Год назад +14

@@ashlynyorel6930 Mine? No. The opposite happened. My hair had been falling out before (I now blame my former vegitarian life style). It suddenly became glossier- probably from all of the oils. Skin looked younger too, probably because of the plumping up with oils and water (as you also become thirsty for water again and become super hydrated which also reduces wrinkles). I discovered later from my doctor that eating only carbs would make your skin cells release? She said, "your skin would slough off - there's no way you can live on no meat products." Which finally explained why I was bruising so easily, and any scabs wouldn't heal, etc. Ive had avid vegitarians chastise me that I should have been taking oil pills and supplements- but my body wouldn't even absorb the B12 injections my neurologist was giving me. Dude I even lost my period for two years. The Drs thought I was anemic. Finally, when my dad was diagnosed with cancer he started keto (because it apparently starves cancerous tumors - cancer tumors grows on carbs according to his drs at Johns Hopkins)... and so I supported him by preparing and consuming the same meals. We both noticed we were losing water weight, body fat, and generally felt generally better. All of my problems seemed to disappear - and his tumors never returned (he's now in his 70's and is cancer free)

That ribeye steak with the fat & cholesterol will probably be more effective considering the ketogenic diet was originally developed to treat epilepsy and there is now good science behind this because the brain is pretty much a ball of fat and cholesterol.

When people notice a serious change in you and then you can say yeah I’m on this diet. Give them more information if they are positive. For so many people when they hear someone is trying a new diet it hits their own ego.

It's not "their" 20 net carbs. It's the average recommendation. Most people won't reliably go 20 grams or less total carbs. And, the majority of the population going to 20g net or less will be making a drastic difference. Even not going that far but including regular fasting will give similar benefits.

@Gigi I am a vegetarian, so most of my diet is vegetables, nuts, dairy and eggs and sometimes a measured amount of pulses. I have found that there is a wide variety of recipes to try, I don't feel limited in any way. There is a keto replacement for almost all kinds of regular carb foods. For instance, keto bread for regular bread, using lettuce for wraps or making keto flatbreads with coconut flour or almond flour, cauliflower rice for regular rice/pizza, zucchini for pasta (There are other great options that can be bought, like edamame pasta) and so on.
My main sources of fat are coconut oil, olive oil, butter, full fat dairy, cheese and nuts. Things I completely avoid are sugar, processed carbs & PUFA oils. I generally don't use any other sweeteners like stevia either because I'm insulin resistant (I have PCOS) and I don't want to trigger insulin.
My net carbs per day averages between 20-40 grams. Hope this helps :)

I do daily intermittent fasting 16/8 and a sat-sun 24. I do exercise most days for about an hour. I eat low-carb, but I am finding it difficult to keep track of the carbs I eat. I just make sure that the foods I eat contain the lowest carbs possible. Though I was not overweight when I started, I have lost about 10lbs, from 128 to 118lbs (I do not want to lose too much). My goal is to be pre-diabetes-free in my next lab test. I calculate and think that I do not eat more than 30 or 40 carbs daily. Actually, I have never been a heavy eater and have avoided processes and sugar-loaded foods and drinks. However, diabetes runs in my family, and I was eating some of the carb foods like potatoes, bananas, rice/beans, bread almost daily (I grew up eating), but I also skipped meals daily, related to the demands of the work, so no problems with fasting here. I do not know if I am in ketosis or not, and I do not care that much. Focusing too much on a named diet will take too much thinking on my part. One thing I know for sure is that I am more energetic, I sleep better, and have not had too much acid reflux anymore, which for me is good enough. Wishing all good luck with diet and good health!

Started going towards keto two days ago. Yesterday did well with about 60g digestible carbs (adds up so so fast!), today I'm aiming at 40g and eventually 20-35g/d stable. Already detecting trace ketones (up to 1.5 mmol/L) in urine, which is curious to me. Not even aiming primarily at weight loss, just want a clear head and to stop eating sugar. Cauliflower and ground beef with taco spices, fried eggs, avocados and MCT oil shaken into tea/coffee/cacao with the help of cream (dairy/coconut) are just awesome. I still crave Greek yogurt with a holiday dip mix to top everything.

Something important is missing from this discussion: CARB ADDICTION. Unlike protein or fat, carbs are not really satisfying, and it's very easy to overeat them because the body is still hungry. They also seem to trigger a desire for more of the same. For those of us with "moderation" issues, no carbs is better than low carbs. And no carbs requires no counting.

No carbs is literally dumb. The reason u crave more carbs is because you’re eating refine processed carbs. They’re stripped of the fiber that keeps u full. Most people who eat carbs are not eating whole based plant foods. It’s quite funny that ppl don’t start eating them until they go keto because the diet literally forces you to eat them. Before you were eating breads, pasta and cookies. Now you’re eating broccoli, tomatoes, cucumber, avocado, nuts and berries. Stop blaming carbs. Carbs isn’t the issue. Eating processed carbs are. Keto is definitely a gateway to eat “healthier” but it’s not sustainable for a lifetime.

25 grams is a sweet spot occasionally less or more that is 10 on low end 35 on high end
Try to maintain in the range but if one day in a month you hit 50 or 60 don’t panic just move back down .
After major surgery I upped it to 35
As I had been running a heart rate of 120 for days and very little food so I craved just a bit more carbs for a few days that’s ok , the goal is balance over the long run slow and steady weight loss for instance will let you change your whole life style for lifetime sustainability. This is not a diet it’s just how you live. All “ diets” fail but lifestyles are maintainable. Life is not a sprint it’s SA cross country run ....

    I weigh 195 and I'm active. I have some belly fat. I eat 5 meals per day (6a, 9a, noon, 3p, 6p) each meal ~500 calories.
My goal is to noticeably burn some belly fat, though the weight itself doesn't bother me. I drink water and black coffee only... no sweeteners ever. Hoping to simply swap out 3 or 4 of my meals for just meat and cheese then see what happens. Dinner will still have green & red fruits & vegetables.

I use “My Fitness Pal” to calculate all the components of my diet. Although I eat just a quarter glass of lentil soup 🍲 and around a glass of fresh vegetable salad 🥗 with avocado 🥑, I still get at least 50g of carbs daily. That’s always disturbing the overall percentage of fats and oblige me to eat much more fat concentrated food like organic butter to ensure that fats consists of 70% of my diet. I was shocked 😳 by the fact that even organic fat heavy food like Avocado 🥑 still contains as much carbs as fats. That’s really confusing me. I am totally unable to lower my carbs to 20 as almost everything including walnuts also include carbs and the application count it 🤷‍♂️. What can I do ?!

I have to take antibiotics for an eye condition (rosacea),but it messed up my stomach so I stopped and immediately got an UTI (twice!). I found that while on the antibiotic it was SO HARD to get & then stay in Ketosis (Low!), but when I stopped taking them it was easy! Can you talk a bit about how antibiotics can influence ketosis please? I’d REALLY appreciate it! And I BET there’s a bunch of people like me that are taking antibiotics and are having issues getting into or staying in ketosis while on them. And one last thing, if we HAVE to take antibiotics is there something we can do to help mitigate the effects on ketosis? P.S. D-Mannose was tried for the UTI but it dropped me out of ketosis WITHOUT raising my glucose levels! How is this even possible?! Thanks for reading this, hope it motivates you to make a video on these topics! 👍🤞

Antibiotics can affect blood sugar which is why so many people experience increased hunger while on antibiotics. The benefits of the medicine outweigh the negatives. Many people find it helpful to keep carbs as low as possible and fight the increased hunger with protein and fat rather than carb heavy comfort foods.

consider a video on autophagy and protein. Some docs say please cosume protein while others say it knocks you OUT of autophagy. what is your take on this issue. 48 hours or longer is considered the best for autophagy or metabolic switch which I do every weekend.
