  • And the hits just keep on coming. Originally the lead number from The B-52's 1978 Downtown Cafe performance. As a result of these postings I learned a mutual friend, Jeff Thies, was co-owner of the DC. Thanks for the great music, Jeff!

      Why rely on the congress to do anything worthwhile? The "library" (just like the libraries of Alexandria or the Dead Sea Scrolls) will soon turn to dust. Bury your B-52s album in a time capsule under a statue of the blessed virgin Mary in your back yard. Nobody would dare touch it for a couple of decades.

      @@bowiggly7038 - The Library of Congress’ Packard Center is actually buried in a mountain, so I think their archives are pretty safe.

    Wow- this was basically the start of early american new wave, with punk overtones. such a great song, and album. I wish I was at this show! Whoever was, is very lucky! I was only 9 years old. Who remembers the B-52's on Saturday Night live in 79'? or 80? classic!

    Sometime in 1978, maybe 79... I was in the USN, San Diego, 32nd street. A shipmate and I were coming back to the ship. It was 2 or 3 in the morning. The FM radio station we were listening to started playing Rock Lobster as we were pulling into the parking lot. I remember we sat there listening till it finished. I bought the album within the week. Good times...

    It is clear from this wonderful video that the B's are one of the iconic bar bands of all time. They morphed when more successful into a very very slick operation, and laid down what is basically THE rockabilly area of rocknroll. I would say that the Stray Cats are but a grace note to the work of the B's.

  • @novapup2001
    @novapup2001 16 лет назад

    Not to forget that The B 52s were doing this whilst such dance-inspiring hits such as Hotel California and Fly Like an Eagle were being heard on the radio. If Disco didn't shake you, this band could! Thanks to The B 52's for all the great parties they've played at over the years - whether in person or over the speakers! Great vintage vid.

    @NOOOQUARTER The B-52s have done a lot of good-to-great songs, but I think the 45 version of "52 Girls" is the best thing they ever did. I've seen them only once, circa 1978-79, playing to about 20 people in Cleveland, Ohio. The thing that struck me, even moreso than their great music, was how friendly and *confident* they were. Just very nice people. I'm glad they "made it."
