Have a 16 R1 and had the top speed limiter removed. The speedo read about 5% higher than GPS. The speedo hits 299kph then stays at 299 but the bike keeps pulling. Top speed with standard gearing is 304kph. Doesn't hit rev limiter but just runs out of power at high rpm.
Yep, i highly doubt they'd allow it to be the all singing and dancing R1 because of the emissions regulations because I've seen many an R1 going over the 200+mph mark on Turkish roads and suchlike. Very frustrating these emissions regulations, it's not like we're going to go that speed all the time, is it? It's crazy 🙄

You can tell when a tune is just "there", and this is it. You can always make more power, but at a certain point it's got a good roll on feel and everything else after that is just optional. Whoever did this tune got the timing right on the top end and it's still got the crossplane sound there too, I really like it.
And here I was taking it to 180, saying to myself "That's enough, I don't need more" without even realizing I was at the limiter. yeah, it's about time. I need this.

You can clear the CEL with your flasher. It likely got a communication error from the flash itself. Mine did when I flashed, I cleared it, it’s never come back.

That's exactly what i thought too, it's an old printer serial connector by the looks of it, very weird, but i guess that it's saving on an interactive interface, inputting the right combinations of code into the ecu
I have a stock 2020 R1M ( Canadian) and strangely I’ve noted different indicated top speeds if I change dash from KPH to MPH. In KPH it hits 299 and stays there ( no surprise) however when using MPH I was able to hit 190 (305 KPH). Has anyone else experienced this? I’ll soon be doing the same mods so I’ll be interested to see what happens then.

So I bought a used 2015 Yamaha R1 and all that’s done to it is a full SC Project exhaust and a dyno tune, and it easily hit 189 like it was nothing. Are they actually faster than the new ones?
I think the throttle limiter is there to protect the engine... But if they've improved the cooling then it might be okay. But my concern is even if the engine itself can handle 500 horsepower but the components inside might not be made for those kinds of stresses... Gaskets for example could be a problem
The engines are over engineered and will easily respond to a little tuning. In fact a flash is the lowest form of tune, putting the least amount of stress on components! It's when you start adding bolt on's (superchargers, turbo's etc), that you need to start doing sensible upgrades to consumables and stressed parts. :)

Speedo stops at 189. Its not about the top speed, its about how fast it gets there.my zx10 gets to 189 pretty fast but gps after holding it is about 185. Full bolt ons. Leme know if you wana compare the ZX AND R1😁
I got the same bike and I honestly think the zx is faster but in my opinion they have faster parts stock and are 2-3k$ more where I am so I went with the r1 but it would be a close race, I don’t like losing lol ride safe
Why does KilaCams ECU flashed R1 look so much more powerful. He literally couldn't keep the front tire down. This video makes it look great don't get me wrong but KilaCams first ride video after the flash was ridiculous. Made me smile ear to ear the whole time
Also 2 different companies, brentuning flashed this one, kilas was flashed by SLR, with SoCal super bikes. Kilas may be tuned as well I can’t remember.

It wouldn’t make a noticeable difference in the life of the engine unless they messed with the fuel tables and had the bike running extremely lean. Biggest difference is going to be how many hours you ride and how long you’re riding the bike hard after the flash.
They gotta mess with the fuel tables..idk who just flashes without a tune.. now ALOT of ppl including myself has a mail in flash which its a flash tune from another zx10 that he had done previous on the dyno so its not perfect but more tham adequate. Dyno flash if u want it good. Street tune for perfection. The engine runs harder for sure but it shouldnt blow a engine fast.

With a flash they do change the fuel table a little but it’s nothing crazy, to really change your fuel table you need to tune for your climate otherwise you run the risk of being lean, which creates excess heat which creates potential for knock. What I’m getting at is so long as the flash has good tables you wouldn’t be at risk of any engine damage. The major things that affect engine’s life are, fuel ratio, forced induction, peak sustained rpm, oil pressure, and timing. Flash doesn’t do anything off the wall to change anything above. So #1 thing that will determine it’s life span, you! Do your maintenance and you will never notice a difference.

They are both burgers though…
Do they do ethanol tunes as well? I made huge gains on my turbo car but I wonder how e85 would do on a naturally aspirated bike. My 2017 R1 was already wheelie hovering so idk how much more power physics would allow it to put down tbh

I weight 195 pounds and even before I turned my 2018 R1 into a roll racing beast it was hitting 189 alot faster then this. You should have put it on the dyno before and after this flash. Maybe your just not fully rolling into the throttle

The connector to the handheld unit looks so 1990s / early 2000s. You'd think they would use a standard USB connector by now.

r3 is an awesome bike it was my first bike be sure to get some sort of exhaust on it it makes the experience much more enjoyable

Get ninja 400. R3 is way down on power and the ninja 400 is a only a pinch more.

I don’t think kila had his lift control on at all in that video so and flick of the wrist and it would try to stand up.
