      Mockingjay
Soo, some Swedish grammar. “Melodifestivalen” means “the Melodifestival” Instead of adding “the” we add “en” , ”an” or “et” at the end.
The table = bord - _et_
The tree = träd - _et_
      The elevator/lift = hiss - _en_
The mess = rör - _an_
*The Melodifestival = Melodifestival - **_en_*

  • @realmenchangediapers
    @realmenchangediapers 6 лет назад +22

Fun fact. Both singers in the duo of 1994 represented Sweden at other times. Roger Pontare returned in 2000 (and he is indeed a genuine Sami schaman, a priest of their indigenous religion). The woman (forgot her name) was earlier a part of "Family four" who were at eurovision in 1971 and 1972.
Siw Malmqvist indeed represented Sweden in 1960, and then she sang for Germany in 1969, competing against Tommy Körberg.
From 1959 to 1961 Melodifestivalen was only for picking the song, not the artist. They would send a different artist to eurovision than the one who won Melodifestivalen. In 1958 it was internally selected.
The first entry of 1958 is Alice Babs, who rose to fame in 1940 at the age of 16. She has sung with Duke Ellington and was a huge deal. They internally selected her and picked a song but she didnt like the lyrics and demanded they change them. They did, but then the composer refused to allow it to be studio recorded and sold on records. It was released on a record many many years later, and only the recording of the eurovision as no studio version was ever made.

well the composer of the 1996 belgium entry told thomas g:son they were gonna sue them but they handled it outside court with a money settlement... so it's safe to say it was a rip off lol

Did you know that Charlotte Perrelli, the winner in 1999 (Then Nilsson) is aunt to Benjamin Ingrosso? She was married to his fathers brother. Also the girl who vissled in the 60s, Lill-Babs, died at the besinning of April this year.RIP Lill-Babs❤️ A Week before that the older man in the choir behind Tommy Nilsson, Jerry Williams died. Both he and Lill-Babs were very famous here in Sweden.RIP Jerry Williams❤️ speaking of Tommys choir, they were all famous in Sweden , the only one who still were going strong nowdays were Jerry Williams, the other ones does not song that much any more, maybe Tommy Ekman. The reason why Tommy N had them in the choir ? Well because he had been in the choir for them and he only asked them for a favour back. If you search for them here on youtube you can search for: Tommy Ekman, Jean-Paul Wall, Jerry Williams, Ankie Bagger and Vicky Benckert ( Vicky sang in melodifestivalen 1984) Thank you for this reaction, loved it.

I usually don't like Måns Zelmerlöv, but it pisses me of when people say his song is more show than substance. This is of one of ESC's song with the most heartfelt substance. And definately the song with most depth coming from Sweden.
Some, like the song It hurts, come close, but Måns is the king of the hill in this regard.
It hurts worked poorly when translated to english. The swedish version was on par with Måns but lost to much of it depth in english.

The text of our entries from 1966 and 1968 are really good - check them out.
Regarding the line from our entry in 1973: that line you liked is pretty much a direct translation from the Swedish original. It makes no more sense there either.
We really did find our niche somewhat in the 1980's.
Christer Björkmans song was written by Niklas Strömstedt a well-known singer/songwriter and is really good.
Our entry in 2013 was just so-so for me at first listening but has since grown to become one of my favourite entries this century from my homeland.
    My favourites were:
    From the 50's - 1959 - Augustin.
From the 60's - 1966 - Annorlunda vals, 1968 - Det börjar verka kärlek banne mej, 1969 - Judy min vän.
    From the 70's - 1974 - Waterloo, and 1975 - Jennie Jennie.
    From the 80's - 1980 - Just nu, 1983 - Främling, 1984 - Diggiloo Diggiley, 1988 - Stad i ljus (One of my favourites of all times) and 1989 - En dag.
    From the 90's - 1991 - Fångad av en stormvind, 1993 - Eloise, 1995 - Se på mig.

So many memories!! In the early 2000s my dad would buy me the melodifestivalen album of every year from when I was like 5 til 10 and I would play it on my pink sparkly cd player and jam to it, it was a look for sure, still know all of the early 00 entries by heart

It is much better in Swedish and people here is still listening to it.And probably you know it but if you dont. Fun fact: In the "One more time" - Den vilda-clip, the singer (Nanne Grönwall) in the grey jacket is married to the pianist Peter Grönwall who is the son of a very famous musician, Benny Andersson from ABBA =)
And the clip from 2005, "Las Vegas" - Martin Stenmarck, he won over Nanne's entry - Håll om mig" in the melodifestivalen. the jury voted for him but the people wanted Nanne but...nope..many MANY people were angry about that. Including me...so please react to Nanne's Håll om mig.. :)

Enjoying these videos SO MUCH!!! So glad to see that there are many many coming, delishh!! :D. Your reactions are SO contagious :D. Especially when you go: "I love Eurovision so much!" :D. YESS! And they are so so funny as well, with your comments about the backing vocalists who are so into it or ramming the pencil in your eye socket, or disliking the goat vibrato, omg, haha :D. For me personally, Sweden has to be the all time favorite Eurovision country, for having produced the highest quantity of songs to die for! Even though I don't really really like a single entry until 1994 :D, I very much agree with your comments about Abba, and - also agreeing with jlhabitan50, that many of the "Swedish" sounding entries have not aged well to the ear. Having said that, it's impossible to hate many of those songs (especially Charlotte and Carola) after your comments :D - you make a convinicing point ("it can't be all that bad" - omg, haha). But what makes you like Undo ? - I guess the uuundooo part does the same to me as Robin Sternberg's youuu does to you, uuugh (just can't stand it, sorry :D). My personal favorites are Frans - his sincerity and minimal performance touch that sweet nostalgia for teenage romance

I love Sweden. They bring original stagings.
    My favourites entries are:
    1969: WoW, It's really beautiful
1974: One of my favourites of ABBA
1996: Interesting. I think this is my winner that year.
2000: I like it. In my top 5
2001: I love it. It makes me happy. My 4th place that year
2009: So wonderful. In my top 10
    2010: Cute and peaceful
2011: Great rythm. In my top 3
    2012: My winner
    2015: My runner-up
    2017: The dance is great
But 2014 and 2016 were also good

I dont get how Stad i ljus (Tommy Körberg) could score that low. Its such a powerfull song, a real anthem (funny since i he mostly known for his song Anthem from Chess) He had a cold that year if i remember correctly, and maybe it was a little too slow for the esc, but still. Its millions times better than Popular. I have a treat for you, Martin Stenmarck singing the song on a famous musicshow. The guy is a great singer and amazing entertainer. (ruclips.net/video/3YvR9a5RnAM/видео.html)
Also Satelit (Ted Gärdestad) should have been much higher imo. Great song and Ted is a Swedish icon. I really recommend you listening to it. But maybe to much rock and too little schlager for esc.
