Just because men dont tend to dress "slutty" and rarely create this problem, doesnt mean that women showing off their asses or some massive cleavage is appropriate in every setting. Like, no, showing off your ass and tits is not something you do because you feel "cute." That stuff is fine in the appropriate setting, including a fantasy game, but maybe not at school, work or a generally PG social gathering.
Regarding Bonney, I once found a hot take on Twitter about Persona that also applies to her: "Some people want Persona to feature only college students because they felt guilty about fapping to the highschool girls". I bet a lot of them are coping with the fact that they enjoyed NSFW of a "literal child" and believe that the easiest way to erase the shame is going after the creators. Because realizing that the age of fictional content doesn't matter is an impossible task for them.
I remember a few streamers literally were all freaking out about who to date in P5 because if they dated any of the girls in the phantom thieves they would be called a child diddler and if they dated the adults they would've been called a broomer
On a related note, remember the Vice Article you covered about the woman who presented Japanese drawings as a gateway to CP? It won an Emmy! The woman who portrayed a PDF File as a victim corrupted by Japanese drawings and depicted a Japanese Politican/Business Man in pitch black darkness (even though the interview was in a brightly lit room with the blinds open during daytime), portraying him as this shady villain, and illegally filmed in Manga shops. Probably not worth making another video on it.
I'd guess not so much politics influencing the voting as a combination of voters not too familiar with media of Japanese origin to start with and who are old enough to remember how Vice started out as the people who would provide coverage for stories in areas too dangerous for anybody else to go into. These original reporters are pretty much long gone, but if you didn't know anything about manga and what you knew about Vice is that they might just be the first to release a shocking expose about an industry... the judging may have been more incompetence than malice. The writer, however, was a hack.
Vice hates anime and calls it CP in one article while openly defending the real thing in multiple other articles. Funny how often antis get outed as being into the real thing
Funny thing is, the “sexualization” they so decry, is truly an appreciation and empowerment of women. If artists hate women, why would they spend so much time and effort to render their idea of the ideal feminine form?
I've seen women cry about other people complaining about Spider-man's MJ (the female love interest) in the new game looking like an NPC. "Not all women look gorgeous" "Men have unrealistic standards!!" SHE LOOKS LIKE YOUR AVERAGE FEMALE NPC. You're praising the game because her average looks make you feel less insecure, not because this is good character design
@@norwa3518 100%. It's almost always due to insecurity in that case. I'm not gonna say this is all women but entitled/cruel women tend to do this a ton to other women. They hate not being the hottest in the room and since they can't tell fantasy from reality they just pin that sentiment on fictional characters, too.
its rather funny how they basically have created a fiction of chiseled dudes and women that many would argue look terrible. the decried "sexualization" is either so out of hate for men (and lesbians) that it beats down standards for women, or they just flat out hate women. probably both.

The age of fictional characters is meaningles. But also: Why can't oda be friends with watsuki? Because of his crimes? That makes no sense. If convicted criminals are not allowed to have any kind of life, job or friends after serving their sentence. Why is there any other punishment than death-penalty?
His crimes generally carry a gigantic stigma with it. Heck, people are sometimes innocent of that charge and it ruins them regardless. It's a bad thing to be genuinely convicted of, sure, but the problem there is that people are aware of that, too, and will use it as a bludgeon wherever possible. Hence why everyone on Twitter accuses the people they don't like of being that.
Guilt by association is stupid. Anyone who does a significant stint in prison is going to make friends. When they get out, having paid their debt to society, should they be vilified not only for their own past mistakes, but for the past mistakes of _everyone else_ they associated with while they were? And anyone who hasn't been convicted of a crime, them too? At that point might as well push the reset button, because the society that thinks that's a good idea is straight F'ed.
I don't think these people understand real friendships or bonds. Just associations. To them there's no difference between someone you've known for years and become close with and someone you met a month ago, or with whom you have a strictly business relationship.
If Oda wants to remain on good terms with Watsuki, that's his choice and his business and given their history, I get why he would, seeing how Watsuki helped Oda out a lot during his early career.
Bonney's power is manipulating age, she can make herself and others either older or younger. Her being 12 is nebulous at best. Yeah, I get it, timelinewise she is 12, but she could be 3, or 30, or 90 if she wanted to.
I love that people think he actually gives a s*** what we in the West think when compared to his main target audience in Japan, his home country, like all manga writers care about.
Bonney is the perfect example of what I've been thinking and saying when I see people go nuts over "underage" fictional characters: Anyone can draw a character of any body type and throw any age on it.
i dont read one piece or watch the anime ...i just started to look up what was all the deal with this chacarter 20 min ago... aparently she looks like a 22 year old because she uses some fruit that give her power and change her to that adult body and at some point she fell on some water and fruit power got off and she got small back to her original apearance of a 12 year old so basicaly she is Raphtalia.... she looks like in her 20's because a side efect of the shield hero influence and leveling up but still a 10 year oldand at some point loosed all her exp and went to lvl 1 and as she stated herself " revert to her original apearance" so is a transformation not a real body i dont know why people are loosing their minds over that girl being 12 and not looking like it right now if those same people didnt have problem sexualizing Raphtalia ... that is 10 but doesnt look like it
yeah, but her case is the reverse. she is a 24 year old who ages back every time she uses her power. but I still don't think that the argument that Bonny is a 12 year old holds up, at least on a personality aspect. There are so many adult characters in One Piece that behave quite like young kids... Luffy being the prime example. he started out as 17, I think and then became 19 after the time skip. dude still behaves like a 12 year old brat, and then there are other characters. so Bonny being actual 12 really doesn't affect her image. @@rootfish2671

Your typical sensible twitter user: "Coomers focus too much on sexualizing characters that they don't pay attention to the plot or the characters." Also the same sensible twitter users: "The character's attractiveness is a barrier that prevents me from experiencing her tragic story."
And with 2B, isn't the model you showed one you have to unlock? From what I remember, you had to go out of your way to get it, otherwise she had a dress. I figured you talk about the Bonney stuff. And yeah, fictional character's ages, like Bonney's, can change at any time. Especially Bonney who has the ability to literally change her age.
No you can get it right away. It's the same model. You just have to 'self destruct' to blow her dress off and volia! Leotard! Of course if you fast travel or otherwise reload, the dress comes back.
You can just use the self-destruct to get that look. A2 and 9S also can do it, though their damaged appearances are obviously different from 2B's. Later on, you can get an item that can lock a character's appearance, so if you use it after doing the self-destruct or take a lot of damage, then you can lock that character into the damaged form, or alternatively you can use it to lock them in their non-damaged form.
The west thinks it's perfectly normal for men to show a lot of skin and women to show skin in onlyfans, yet, they cry about drawings that are "sexualized", the definition of hypocrisy.
@@marplatense31 I think he's talking about how modern entertainment media has gotten rid of heterosexual "normative" relationships. Like for example, the new "Tiny Toons" reboot made Babs and Buster Bunny siblings, to get rid of their BF&GF dynamic the original 90s show had. And the fact, DC & Marvel comics have made half their characters gay now, and you rarely see heterosexual relationships in them now. And let's not forget all the Twitter backlash over things like that Japanese McDonald's anime commercial depicting a heterosexual family, with people ridiculously claiming it hurts LGBTQ. (Dude, gay people wouldn't exist without hetero people.) I don't understand the rise of "heterophobia," and how people are blind to see it. Real talk here: The guy who's saying 2B's sexualization prevents you from seeing her tragic story is full of shit. She's designed to INTENSIFY her tragic story. Most straight men, which are the majority of action game players, feel a tragedy much more keenly if it's happening to a beautiful, desirable woman than if it were happening to anyone else (except a child). You don't have to like it, but millions of years of evolution and natural selection have wired humans that way, so that's just how it is. You only have to look at an average cross-section of gacha game stories to see that Asian game developers have not forgotten this, even if a lot of westerners like to pretend they have.
So what you're saying is, to maximize despair I have to combine the two things that amplify tragedy the most, i.e. the tragedy has to happen to a beautiful, desirable woman who is also a child! Truly, this must be why Kotoko was included in Ultra Despair Girls, why magical girl anime are the most tragic and why Kodomo no Jikan is one of the most heart wrenching manga of all time!

9:48 while Oda and Watsuki's relationship its a touchy subject and its not acceptable to our western standards, I think people should also remember that Watsuki was Oda's master and that oda worked for many years with him him, even allowing Oda to make a character for the Rurouni Kenshin Series. Respect and endebtment to someone else is also a big thing in Japan. We will never know the true reasons behind all of this. I do think that work and authour can be separated because otherwise we would have to reject everything that was created/invented by someone that led a bad life. Ghandhi was a wife beater, and Martin Luther King Jr slept around while married, you know? Thomas edison popularized the use of electricity, even though he didn't create the systems, and he used to torture animals with electricity in his campaings against Tesla. Internet was created by the military as a form of rapid communication in war. Are we endorsing war when we use the internet?
Reminds me of the complains about Miranda's sexy figure on Mass Effect 3, what result into a camera change. Cause those mature individuals are having trouble to "immerse" themselves, just cause her butt was at the camera angle.
It's a sin to be attracted to good-looking people and fictional characters because people these days are allergic to even put the effort to look good themselves. And those who do put in the effort are dubbed "shallow" and narcissistic.
The craziest part about the whole Bonney being 12 thing is, EVERY single scene Bonney is "sexualized" in, she's in a 22 - 24 year old ADULT woman's body! Since she has the power of the Toshi Toshi no Mi (Age Age Fruit), she can age her body to whatever age she wants (as well as other people's). Whenever we've seen her as a 10 - 12 year old little girl, her clothes have ALWAYS fully covered her and she has never been "sexualized" or put in any sort of sus scenarios in that form at all!!! So people are legitimately accusing others of being P*DOS for being attracted to a literal adult woman's body! And/or they themselves are feeling guilty now for all the times a 24 year old woman turned them on... The human brain is biologically programmed to find opposite gendered adults attractive! And you literally cannot just turn off attraction as if it's a light switch! I'd honestly believe there was MORE wrong with you if you DIDN'T find her adult form attractive! The people pretending that, because now that they know she's truly a 12 year old inside of that adult body, they are legitimately no longer attracted to her are not only lying to themselves in a big way, but are clearly exemplifying the epitome of virtue signaling!
I agree with everything you said till the sexual attraction argument. There are some people who won't find her attractive and that's ok. For me, having just a "sexy" lady in front of me is not making me immediately attracted. Sometimes character's become attractive because they have attractive personalities. I don't mind her being super sexy but when every character is build the same way most people will not get that excited, that's the reason why fan favorites tend to be ya know the most interesting not the one with biggest tits or sm. For example Megumin from Konosuba is fans favorite even tho objectively Darkness and Aqua have bigger assets lol. So yeah there is nothing wrong with not being attracted to her but also there is nothing wrong with being attracted.
I think the point he was getting at is that like the brain is generally hardwired into attraction, so if you find adults with hourglass shapes attractive - you’d find her adult form attractive. Because you know, it looks like an adult.
Okay with the whole pedo thing I'm not encouraging that at all but what the one thing is that I'm tired of from Oda is the fact that he doesn't have to be a try-hard with having a 12 year old be depicted as a 24-year-old in sexualizing the f*** out of her because it's convenient for him in the story to have a 12 year old girl have a devil fruit that can age her up or de-age and that's convenient for him because when she ages herself up mentally maturely she's a 24-year-old but on paper and in heart she's still a 12 year old girl....... I think it's absolutely obvious that you can't take that shit serious anymore........ sexualize the fuck out of all the 18+year-olds all you want kudos to you for doing so but anything below 18 please mind your f****** manners it's not just Japanese people reading the story because it's becoming extremely popular over here in the states so seeing a 12 year old being sexually depicted it's not okay it's not rocket science here we all grew up with this shit not being a good thing and now it's to the point where we're all just desensitized from it....... at some point the Netflix show "Cuties"is going to be justified here in a few years smh😧
That oda has a pedo as a friend I didn't know. I hope Oda is such a friend that support his friends in NOT doing anymore stupid shit. Supporting them to control themselves instead to let them alone and fall into a deep hole that let them doing more shit. If more criminals would have such friends it would give less criminals.

8:00 in due fairness, I'm... pretty sure Stocking is not underage? I dunno if her age was ever confirmed (not that it particularly matters, since she's an angel, not a human) but both characters in that series openly and shamelessly engage in tons of sexual activities, she's also got some serious honkers, a real set of badonkers
What about attractive non-committal characters? They're not gonna stop until everyone is equally ugly, are they? Dear Lord, there's a Twilight Zone episode in here, isn't there?
The rule I generally follow is: "If your characters/series/etc. has sexy fan art, 18+ or not, you probably have something good that people like on your hands".
I love how there is no middle road. Its either _"AGH I HATE IT WHEN PEOPLE SEXUALIZE HER!!!"_ or its _"AGH I'LL SEXUALIZE HER BUT SHE BELONGS TO WOMEN ONLY!!!"_ Like with Bayonetta.

Regarding Bonney, I once found a hot take on Twitter about Persona that also applies to her:
"Some people want Persona to feature only college students because they felt guilty about fapping to the highschool girls".
I bet a lot of them are coping with the fact that they enjoyed NSFW of a "literal child" and believe that the easiest way to erase the shame is going after the creators. Because realizing that the age of fictional content doesn't matter is an impossible task for them.

I found out about that from Rev yeah. Insane.
They really will give any hack an Emmy these days.
Vice really put the Vice in Vice News.
Ironic part is when live action western entertainment does the same they shut up about it.
I've seen women cry about other people complaining about Spider-man's MJ (the female love interest) in the new game looking like an NPC.
"Not all women look gorgeous" "Men have unrealistic standards!!"

Bonney's power is manipulating age, she can make herself and others either older or younger. Her being 12 is nebulous at best. Yeah, I get it, timelinewise she is 12, but she could be 3, or 30, or 90 if she wanted to.
She could have been born 2 weeks before sabaody and it would still work
The implications of her abilities also seem to be not just aging the body, but actively drawing upon a potential future self.
I love that people think he actually gives a s*** what we in the West think when compared to his main target audience in Japan, his home country, like all manga writers care about.
Bonney is the perfect example of what I've been thinking and saying when I see people go nuts over "underage" fictional characters: Anyone can draw a character of any body type and throw any age on it.
i dont read one piece or watch the anime ...i just started to look up what was all the deal with this chacarter 20 min ago...
aparently she looks like a 22 year old because she uses some fruit that give her power and change her to that adult body
and at some point she fell on some water and fruit power got off and she got small back to her original apearance of a 12 year old
so
basicaly she is Raphtalia.... she looks like in her 20's because a side efect of the shield hero influence and leveling up but still a 10 year oldand at some point loosed all her exp and went to lvl 1 and as she stated herself " revert to her original apearance" so is a transformation not a real body
i dont know why people are loosing their minds over that girl being 12 and not looking like it right now
if those same people didnt have problem sexualizing Raphtalia ... that is 10 but doesnt look like it
Yet people don't freak out over Monster Girl in Invincible
yeah, but her case is the reverse. she is a 24 year old who ages back every time she uses her power.
but I still don't think that the argument that Bonny is a 12 year old holds up, at least on a personality aspect.
There are so many adult characters in One Piece that behave quite like young kids... Luffy being the prime example.
he started out as 17, I think and then became 19 after the time skip. dude still behaves like a 12 year old brat, and then there are other characters.

Fans have been speculating about Bonney's real age for years. No one should have been surprised by this.
We've know this was at least a possibility for Jewelry Bonney almost as soon as she was introduced. Oda did an SBS where he talked about the ages of tall of the Worst Generation, a group that Bonney is a part of, and he specifically said that Bonney's age was an estimate because of her power.

There's an item you can remove and she loses her dress.

Yeah as we seen with modern western stuff we see tragity happen to someone who is ugly and/or an asshole like Abbie from LOU 2 we laugh. Hard.

Twitter Fresks really do be the folks that will sit by as you yell to them that a real child is being kidnapped by a nonce, and they'll instead complain that you liking content featuring a sexy anime woman is worse.
*spend entire arc making ass shots of presumably adult character, spawning an entire wave of fanart*
*suddenly reveal she's 12 right at the end of the arc*
Oda may have one some of the most craziest trolling moves in recent anime history.
No character is too attractive or ugly. It is all creative expression, and artists can do what they want. Now, if they think they're entitled to money for their work, then that's another issue. They can make what they want, and I can buy what I want.
....Considering þat r34 exist, þe first statement stands true.
Dude says he can't pay attention to the story because of 2B's ass while i'm here playing NIKKE and completely invested in the story and characters
Based oda, Love Bonney.
Haha when I heard about the most recent One Piece Chapter, I expected Twitter to have another meltdown, likely calling to cancel Oda again. Also telling how they focus on the age issue, not on the all but confirmed grape origin of the Character
Yoko Taro literally wants people to lewd 2B so imma listen to him.
LoL!
