Alright y'all. I'm allowed to have an opinion on the game. If you disagree that's fine. I think the game is solid. In case I didn't make it clear enough in the video, the writing, dialogue choices, and decision making in this game NEEDS to be better. My point was that despite that obvious deficiency, the game was still moderately fun to me.
Ya that's fine you have an opinion...but wtf do you expect when it's an unpopular one that everyone disagrees with. Just because you are allowed to have an opinion dosent make you immune to be made fun of for said opinion.
I disagree with you. You said Veilguard is an RPG. An RPG respects your decisions and representation of your character. If you want to be an asshole, you can be. If you want to be a hero, so be it. This game doesn't respect your choices. If you want to insult someone and the sentence is in the wheel, your character won't say it that way. You can only be a very nice guy. All characters are one-note good guys. They all act more like Disney characters than real people. It is not their fault that they are written that way. I don't want to write an essay here. In my humble opinion, it should have been written for the fans of DA. They kept the series alive and their past choices should have been seen in the game. If Morrigan had a child and a relationship with the Hero of Ferelden and you persuaded Mythal to leave the child, I want to see or hear about it in the game. You can meet Isabela in the game and there is no way to address that she was Hawke's romance option in my game. So in my eyes, the game mostly failed the Dragon Age fans who should have been the priority. The gameplay and graphical style are passable, but the dialogue and writing is below all the games in the series.
"Pretty good" is acceptable for a new or returning player who doesn't know the lore, and doesn't set a high bar. As a direct sequel to Inquisition, especially for those of us who really know the lore and the quality of writing BioWare exhibited in the past, it's disappointing. But as a "set in the world of Dragon Age" game it's good as long as you're okay with Veilguard ignoring, destroying or rendering moot much of the established lore that made the series so immersive.
Not to mention Veilguard getting rid of a bunch of sub-text in dialogue and writing overall compared to previous titles. I saw someone say if this game had been advertised as "The Veilguard: A Dragon Age Story" it would've been received much better, but because it's a sequel to Inquisition and therefore part of the main story of DA:O -> DA:I it of course is put into comparison to those, and it falls flat at best - but downright disrespectful of the predecessors at worst.
I STRONGLY suggest you play the previous DA games. They're all right now on Steam for cheap. And if you're on console I'm sure PS has them on PS+. Start with Origins( Including DLC). You might enjoy DA2 since the gameplay is more like this one except without all the lame dialogue. I'm torn on Inquisition though.
Soooooo, Someone who has not played any other DA games is not hating this one. He doesnt really like it either. So why call this a solid game? Most of your video is complaints, which doesnt make the game solid. You are literally contradicting yourself, saying the game is solid but pointing out all its flows. Now imagine how we feel? The incredible legacy is destroyed, we are heartbroken. I dare you to play the previous 3 games and walk away from the experience with your sanity intact.
if you like FANTASY RPGs this game will disappoint you. But if you're looking for an ACTION RPG, DAV will tick all the boxes to be entertaining for at least 20 hours. Dragon Age: The Veilguard strayed so far from the ROLEPLAYING game roots it solidified in the past three entries. It's a fine action game, but as a roleplaying and fantasy game, it falls short by a landslide. Especially when you compare to previous entries in the universe. The worldbuilding is non-existent, there's barely any room for roleplaying (Hawke in DA2 had more nuance by far), and the blatant disregard of the previous games is staggering. Dragon Age as a universe was a place where a lot of real subjects were taken up and made to confront the players directly. Be it your stance on how Elves are treated, or how Mages in southern Thedas are little more than prisoners doing community service to prove they're not dangerous. Tevinter (In which you'll find Minrathous) was set up to be a eugenics centered society in which they try to breed the perfect mages, lineages matter and arranged marriage is a thing to secure said lineage. They'd even use blood magic to "cure" Dorian of his preference to male company, which is insane. Dorian who stands out to the player as a much less conservative Tevinter mage talks about how "A little slavery is fine, right?" like it's a normal thing. Yet in Minrathous we see no lesser treatment of non-mages. Whereas in DA:O in the alienage, no matter your starting origin, you'll see elves being severely mistreated for the simple fact that they're elves. The Crows were set up to be a very ruthless organisation, not only that they're feared across Thedas, but that they kidnap children to train them as assassins. Zevran fails to kill the Warden and immediately gives up to join the warden "I failed the contract, my life is forfeit. I'd rather live and serve you". Meanwhile in DAV you constantly see crows failing their contracts, giving them to Rook, and the entire faction plays more like a stereotypical mafia mobster family who governs the city in an honerable fashion. In previous entries we got a bunch of first hand sources explaining how the innerworkings actually are, yet DAV seemed adamant on erasing this to play the story safe. There's little actual roleplaying going on, compared to older games, and overall the story does a dis-service to fans of the universe. Mostly in the way they've handled plot reveals, not the reveals themselves. But the gameplay is fine. Probably amongst the best Dragon Age has been, if we look past the fact that warriors and rogues suddenly spew magic like there's no tomorrow. Something that was previously reserved to mages, or very uniquely trained characters, such as Templars. And even their magic was somewhat limited.
It’s a painfully average, painfully modern and corporate game. Acceptable as a generic, fluffy fantasy adventure game, maybe. But not acceptable as a Dragon Age game 10 years in the making by a studio behind some of the best RPGs ever. That’s how I feel about it anyway.
I mean bro idk what you expected when you literally say you didn't play the other games in the series. Before your time is such a dogshit excuse as well because I'm 25 and I've played them all. You can get them for like $5 at most a lot of the time. Go play those and then understand why this game is actually worse than garbage.
I played dragon age from origins to inquisition and they are all masterpiece Veilguard however is severely disappointing the only thing that I like in veilguard is that I able to be a grey warden once again, wear a cool grey warden armor and punch first warden face, but that is all the good thing I can find the rest are vile.
@@Genevievelox You complaining about his gammar on an international site only makes his point stronger because you can't even deny his argument and have to attack his english language proficiency.
didn't watch the video, just came to check the like/dislike ratio after that clueless/shill opening screen.. just as expected 🤣 even the guy say in his pinned comment "the writing, dialogue choices, and decision making in this game NEEDS to be better" but thn whats left to be "pretty good" ? its an rpg, if the writing, dialogue and decision making (you cant rly make decisions, everything is forced on you) is bad it failed every fundamental aspect of a role playing game.. lets not even talk about it literally desecrates the Dragon Age lore "WHO DON LIKE DRAGONS ?!" 🤡
Maybe ppl have different priorities on what makes a game good... like gameplay, world building, etc. In this game was good. Just because he doesn't think a couple of mistakes ruin the entirety of a game doesn't mean his opinion is stupid. It literally means he's giving it a fair chance amongst the harsh gaming world standards.
The game is trash. If you have played games like the witcher 3. Red dead 2 dragon age origin's etc. There is no comparrison. The writing is a joke. The graphics look idk. Its like a mishmash of colour everwhere everything loojs oversaturated. The character creation the women look like men...yuk.....i wanted to like this game but i tried but dam i couldnt. I went back to origins again. The masterpiece but if ppl like this veilgaurd garbage. Thats their choice. No problem.

The comment section here has big "stop having fun" vibes 🙂
nobody who disliked watched the video, they just saw the thumbnail.
"...Fortnite coloured loot..."
Ugh, that physically hurt.

Then how did Elden Ring win RPG of the year?
It's ok to have bad taste, just don't expect people to treat your opinion very highly

Whoever made this game hates Dragon Age
I take it you used the underdog difficulty. That difficulty is the real normal.

Essentially this guy was their target audience with this game. Never played the previous part of the series and is a zoomer

Is this rage bait?

No. No, it's not......
All bro spoke was cap and all I watched was one minute 1:01
Maybe watch longer to actually hear his full argument ?
It’s simply his opinion, not that deep tbh
I agree that this game is really similar to hogwarts legacy
such a shil
Not trying to be mean here, but this game is a travesty. Not good. Dumpster fire. Dialogue so bad it makes Baldur's Gate 3 cry.
He talks about how the dialougue is bad
