A master filmmaker. I love his attitude. I worked on one of his films a long time ago and the sound department and I met him. Super Charming
Which film did you work on?
´vbärm8 ?
Love Carpenter! He is the greatest late 70's, early 80's horror director out there.
Sounds like John may have hit the bar right before this panel 😄
So many questions could have been asked about his great body of work. He’s made so many great movies.
John Carpenter is from the Baby Boomer Generation, and he’s 76 yrs old now. But he’s always told his mind and let it come out this way. I understand his personality because my father was only 2 yrs younger then John. I love his movies, and thank God for John and all others like him, I’ve been a fan since I could watch rated R movies. 😄. And I hope his son Cody can keep the torch aflame when John heads off to the stars. I believe he can and will. 👊🏼🎸⚡️🤟🏼
Grumpy John is the best John 😂 I'm cracking up so much I wish I was there so he could just roast me. It be an honor
They Live is seriously underrated.
That's why it was #1 at the US box office when it came out!
you don't remember that i guess.
Anyone that’s complaining obviously doesn’t understand JC, he’s always like this and always will be, he’s a breath of fresh air, he’s as honest as it comes, we should be glad he bothers to come to these conventions
He's made his make in cinema. That's affirmed.
What's troubling is his apparent lack of ' giving a sh**' at these so called conventions.
Watch previous YT clips of him at other Q&As.
He's frail, tired,grouchy and cold.
If I stood in line for hours (and paid!!), I'll feel cheated.
Enough is enough.
I’m the one that asked the question about doing a documentary (tried to be halfway original). I was already nervous & of course the speaker fucked up.
Anyways, I got a photo after this & he was insanely chill. Immediately recognized my Bret Hart shirt.
Also, he even signed my mask for free!
He was anything but grouchy, and he made my day!
hell yeah that was a great question
Love most of John's work. Especially Dark Star.
When you think of some of the films he has done what a legend.
Brilliant Film Director and Composer. His movies live on and will continue to for generations. He's still going strong.
John Howard Carpenter is doubtlessly, the most influent director of the 40 last years. He has influenced a lot of the most important directors and soundtrack compositors of the last times. From Quentin Tarantino, to Duffer brothers, John Peele, Jim Jarmush, Denis Villenueve, of course Nolan, del Toro, Jon Bon Ho... His cinematic, camera shot technique, point of view are still being a big influence on the modern cinematic.
The modern cinema deserves a new movie from Mr. Carpenter. And, it is really to admire, that he never never never needed the applause of the mainstream. As he used to say: "In Germany, I am a movie maker, in France I am an author, in Italy they call me Maestro, and in Hollywood I am fired. Spielberg plays amazing good with emotions, and I'm fired"
This badass doesn't care about the glamour, which other directors like Nolan or Tarantino loves.
Carpenter is just a consequent artist.
Good bless the Master of horror.
John didn’t want questions from the moderator lol
Moderators always believe that they have to educate us with questions that they consider essential (youth, influences, beginnings, etc...) while most people want to get straight to the point with questions about the films they have loved.
Big Trouble in Little China is one of my top five, if not number one favorite movies off all time.
I love the Thing and The Fog.
We REALLY gotta go back to "no politics and no religion" talk to strangers in this world. It's getting friggin stupid.
Then your have to stop The Left from weaponizing EVERYTHING for THEIR POLITICS. Good Luck.
that last question was utterly ridiculous 😂
Wish they would have asked more questions about his most underrated movie(and his third best in my opinion), In the mouth of madness.
Love JC! Saw him twice live in concert. Frim Lost themes Noir “My name is death” and “He walks by night” are fantastic🎶🎵🤘
I liked his latest song: ' My name is Grumpy' and its tender ,sweet natured follow up ' The Curmudgeon '
That’s grandpa carpenter 😂 love yah gramps❤
love his movies and music.. HALLOWEEN 1 WILL ALWAYS BE THE BEST FOR ME ..
I think John had a few before the panel 🍸
Maybe, or just age..
❤😊
He reminds me of the late actor Brion James in an old interview (it's on RUclips) where he calls Star Wars "faggy" compared to Blade Runner.
I love John, but most of these questions were terrible and he was annoyed from the start. Man, can people not come up with anything better than this?
I asked the question about documentaries & if he’d ever do one. I tried at least 🤷♂️
i thoguht a lot of the questions were fine apart from the host.
Cheeky Carpenter the best 😂 As down to earth as you can get 🤘🏼🙏🏽👏🏼👏🏼
I love JC. He just don't give a crap. 😁
One would think differently though, if they paid to see him....
It’s not endearing
Why is he there then?
@@LuisAngel-mu4zv
? Contractual obligation. ? Blackmail!! Who knows.
Rob Zombie’s not directing the new Christine.
I love JC watched tons of these types of Q&A's - I just wonder why he stopped working with Alan Howarth?
I thought the same. I loved when those two collaborated. Two of my favourite movie music guys...just awesome to me.
I'm guessing Carpenter didn't like sharing songwriting credit with Howarth . From what I've read John Carpenter did all the composing . Alan Howarth got the audio synced up film with the audio .
@@user-rt9zq8rs9k
Howarth did A LOT MORE than that.
watch one of his interviews on here;
He came up with melodies
sequenced the tracks, etc.
Audience folk need to just ask the question,, as John said "Get on with it " and some of the audience just want attention, with moronic rambling questions slow down and ask clearl... from Pittsburgh. Are they all like that in Pitts?
I asked the documentary question. Tried my best. 🤷♂️
imo most of the questions are really easy to understand, he just can't hear that well anymore lol
He always gets the same questions 😂
I love John. He has outlived Wes Craven, Tobe Hooper and George Romero. John has to be my favourite director as he has made 6 of my all-time fav films. James Cameron has made 3 , so he comes kinda second. Love John and Cameron. Love John's grumpiness lol...he is god damn hilarious too...legend in my view.
What's truly interesting is that the movie was written to be Anti-80s Orwellian and ends up being 2024 Orwellian in Real Life. Trust The News. Keep your glasses off.
yeah... go figure that one.
least we forget Alan, Debra, Dean, Tommy..
17:00
Ridiculous. This guy has no basic knowledge of who John Carpenter is. I’d be annoyed as well if I were in John Carpenter’s shoes. Surprised he didn’t ask JC if he wears glasses.
I was hoping he would do one last movie but they said he just sits around and plays video games and gets high now and lives off residuals from Halloween. So sadly his last good movie was in the mouth of madness. He's made some of the best horror movies though.
He sounds like he's loaded. lol
I thought he was a prop or creature from the thing in the thumbnail... damn!
Why exactly does Mr Carpenter have such disdain for Rob Zombie?
Rob asked for John Carpenter's blessing before remaking Halloween. John claims he was really encouraging to Rob only to have Rob lie in some interview that John was very "cold" towards him.
I've never found that clip where Rob says that but John has held a grudge ever since. Knowing John's general demeanor I don't doubt Rob took John being "supportive" the wrong way.
@@bumblefritz considering Rob's overall nice personality I can imagine John may have done something to make him feel a certain way.
Oh, I see. Damn. Thanks for the insight on that.
Why hasn't anyone brought up the fact that hes half in the bag? 😂😂😂 🍺
I find it sad that most of the questions are about controversial takes that they probably know the answers to, instead of actual filmmaking. Specially The rob zombie thing, it's getting old!
John Carpenter, both his films and his personality, is not for everyone. The man is not graceful. He is direct, disillusioned and age has made him more and more grumpy. He is not necessarily deep in his thinking and often disappoints those expecting a Masterclass with philosophical, wisdom-filled answers and didactic remarks. If he doesn't know, he doesn't know. That's it. Dead silence. Most great directors watch and think about a lot of films and their art. John, he himself admits, spends most of his time playing video games.
It shows.
I have a great idea for organizers. Stop inviting him. Don't you see that he wants to stay at home, play his video games and that the questions are going to fall flat? It is not the first time. And those who make themselves believe that they like this type of personality who doesn't care about anything, stop lying to yourself. Seriously? Are you satisfied with his answers? C'mon... I love his films too. I even read books about his cinema. But I liked him better in interviews when he was younger. Just leave the old man alone now... Let him play his great music. Let him do his films if he still wants to.
But don't ask him any more questions.
You won't get a straight answer anyway.
Exactly ☝
From a Die Hard Fan of him and his Movies they really need to Start to Leave this man alone he did his Best in the 70s, 80s and some of the 90s but this is not his Prime anymore and that's okay in my Opinion because the is so many New Horror Directors out there so give this Man a break.
My Favorite Movies of him
The Thing
Big Trouble in little China
Prince of Darkness
They Live
Mouth of Madness
Vampires
Assault on Precinct 13
Dark Star
Christine
Body bags
your opinion.
you could watch other interviews...
...where he is asked better questions.
@@bobrew461 I did. You know i'm right.
@@magicmike7198
nope!
:-0
@@bobrew461 Ok. Be that way.
Those were a lot of stupid questions.
I thought the political questions were rude if my wife and I ever met a celeb we wouldn't ask that stuff because we are private about our views besides cons are not the place for that
But this 2024. Everything is political and if you don't have "the correct" views you are ostracized. That's how it works in 2024.
@@SGlitz There is no need to buy into that frame and more people should realise it. The best answer to any political question (unless you are a politician) is "It´s none of your fucking business". That is also how it works in 2024.
@@taikanekkula5386 exactly
Love JC but Rob Zombie is also a creative genius. Not a doubt in my dome!
The Trump-Biden stuff was super awkward
Agreed. He'd be better off staying in his castle and not sitting sqirmishly on these panels destroying his legacy.
It was super cringe. It made me think of Robert De Niro these days. He simply doesn't realize the radical shifts that have taken place within the parties he believes he used to know or understand. Like all celebrities, he should just stay in his lane.
Stop inviting Carpenter to conventions. He doesn't give off a good energy. Always feels like he hates being there. No f*cks given. And imo you should care because the people there care. Leave him home. He had his time and if you don't continue to have a sense of caring... stay home.
Your comment sounds like you had a bad personal experience. Would that be a fair assumption? He seems very cheerful and engaging here.
Why did you even watch this if you just wanted to complain? How bout YOU don’t go to conventions if you don’t wanna see him.
I think most fans enjoy that he's so laid back and careless that he's aaaalmost a prick haha, and expect him to act like this at conventions :))
If it makes you feel any better, he was nice as hell when I was getting a photo with him shortly after this. And as he was leaving, he signed my Myers mask for free, he was above & beyond cool to me.
@@oskar_oskarewiczand he’s totally NOT a prick. He was very personable to me & talked about the Bret Hart shirt I had on. Also signed my mask free of charge.
I found Halloweens newest Trilogy the worst movies ever to me , The first one Halloween Was Eh okish but silly too. Halloween Kills was Horrible and Ends was A tad better but still Very Ugh. Just My opinions.
This really is just horrible to watch. Painful!
He's wheeled out to these things and he clearly doesn't enjoy doing them.
?Contractual obligation.
? Blackmail.
Oof. This was a hard watch. Some people find his grumpiness endearing. I find it annoying. Also, maybe leave your politics at home instead of risking alienating half of your fanbase.
But this movie was political. And the fact that it has flipped on its head is hilarious.
This moderator is awful. Anyone would be grumpy. Mostly uninspired questions.
Half?! Yeah right. Dream on. From the way he reacted, barely anybody raised their hand for Trump.
He wasn't like that in the other panel with Sandy Johnson. Maybe he's just annoyed with stupid energy.
He’s not just talking about the venue. Lol . And I’m sure some were afraid to raise their hands because Carpenter made it super awkward .
So, he fell off the wagon again, I can see.
I think he's just feeling ill. A wee case of Trump Derangement Syndrome.
Such a nice guy but boy must he feel sick at Hollywood (and himself) for making all that money from his creative works which they now own. So much for the poor.
The trend of dissing Rob Zombie and boosting David Gordon Green is getting old. Zombie tried something new that WORKED. Green tried something new thrice and failed every time. Zombie at least made ENTERTAINING movies. Green bores me to tears.
Green is a cash grabbing hack who couldn't direct himself out of a sleeping bag.
Rob Zombie is an absolute hack and those movies are garbage.
@@NovaFeedback1979 no better than David Gordon Green's boring trilogy
Halloween 2018 is better than all of zombie's Halloween movies.
@@justaman9724 I checked my watch a dozen times. Couldn't wait for it to be over. With both Zombie Halloweens, I was glued to the screen.
All these babies in the comments who can’t handle their politics coming into question. Carpenter has always worn his world view on his sleeve, hence They Live. Go watch Tucker Carlson or something if you need to be coddled in your Trump blanket.
Says the dude that probably jerks to Rachel Maddow and prefers men more feminine than women .
Don't worry, you have your Rachel Maddow mugs.
Brain damage is serious; get some help, kid. Spare us your smooth brain think and go back to eating paint chips.
I wanted to ask Carpenter on Altman i think Altman’s an boss
John should just stay at home,,and surprised he is a Trump supporter. He only made about six good movies
lol what? John supports Dementia Joe
I'm pretty sure he isn't. I think he was saying he was proud of them for not raising their hands in support of Trump. He's expressed in a few interviews and even at the beginning of this video that he's pretty left wing.
@@bumblefritzJohn is admittedly an Old School Democrat, which is unrecognizable from a modern day Progressive Democrat. It’s more akin to a moderate Republican. I suspect John was commending those who admitted they were voting for Trump. John, like many Old School Democrats, are fed up with the outrageous Wokeism and looking for alternatives in 2024, which the Democrats have failed to provide.
He said in the interview (this interview), he comes from a Roosevelt/Reagan era left wing back ground. US "left wing" back then is probably a bit right leaning by modern standards.
He made more than six good movies. Get a clue.
Ouch, all those Trump voters being sour now😅
Or sour because a miserable director can't keep his politics to himself instead making his audience awkward.
😊 I still love his movies regardless of politics
If Trump does end up winning again, I hope that Carpenter can find a way to survive the ensuing reign of terror and tyrrany. Miraculously, he managed to make it through the last one, and it no doubt took every fiber of his being to withstand that kind of evil. We can only pray that he can muster the strength to combat Trump's iron fist of oppression once more.
Trump 2024!
I'm voting Donald Trump - sorry but your films are the best!!! but if there was Desantis or Vivek - I'd vote them. But they're backing Trump so here we are. I'm libertarian (Ross Perot and Gary Johnson I voted for)
Best to not even vote at all 😂
@@blinksstayfresh2524 lmfao...we got a biden voter
Imagine applauding David Gordon Green's absolutely dogshit movie and then attempting to insult RZ's movie right after. He's clearly out of his mind.
Love John Carpenter and TRUMP 2024. Idc what anybody says because I voted for Biden 4 years ago and it wasn't a good idea because border is a mess, gas prices are sky high, and groceries cost way too much as of recent.
Nobody cares about your bullshit.
