People need to understand how much of legend this guy is. It hurts when they say "jon carpenter halloween" while he made "the thing, in the mouth of madness, they live" this guy influence in the media has no limits he inspired the "Metal gear, mortal kombat" in wreslting too. 'They live" alone makes him a legend.
John Carpenter is the most charismatic and interesting Director when giving interviews. I love his films , he has such a great body of work..films and scores alike ♥️
Pretty hilarious when he's asked about if he would have directed Interview with a Vampire, and he responds no vampires are a stale genre at this point. Meanwhile John Carpenter's Vampires comes out four years later. 😆
He's said in interviews that he was drawn to Vampires because they weren't romanticized - they were vicious. And it was sort of his sneaky way to make a Western.
37:40 I hadn't watched Christine until recently in my early 30s, and while I didn't find it scary, I liked it a lot. Then again, there aren't many movies that actually scare me anymore, if any. The exorcist has some disturbing moments, but not scary. It's sort of taken away some of the enjoyment of horror movies for me, but I still watch them. I miss that thrill of being scared when I was a kid. Christine may have hit people differently who grew up with it in the 80s, though.
He was honest answering how to become a director . Nowadays 2024 it’s a lot easier you can easily making a movie via RUclips . Back then I believe was really tough . People today knowing how to use this powerful tool , internet , they can truly become successful
This was a great Interview with John Carpenter himself for me as a Big Fan of his works he is and will always be a Blast for the Entertainment World 💯👍
Has to be something else to it then, cos there are some classic one liners in that film, especially from the old guy who owned the garage.. "I catch you drivin' that mechanical asshole in here one more time you' re out on your ass, you got that?"
He reaches into his pocket to touch his pack and/or shakes his hand nervously about once every 30 seconds. It's pretty awkward seeing him not able to smoke.
It's funny when he shouts out George Miller here talking about how he quit the industry... Cut to the 21st century and George Miller has multiple Oscar winning movies, including a 4th Max film and Carpenter has played Xbox for the last decade. Not calling Carpenter out, he's my favorite director. It's just hilarious.
I think john is itching for a cigarette in this interview...Being a smoker myself i know the signs........never the less he is a terrific film director.
I think we amateur film makers of this genre have to admit we all cut out teeth on this man's work. If not, lol then you have clearly missed the boat and best put away them cameras, hehe. Timeless work.
Carpenter's The Thing is a masterpiece.
I always love how brutaly honest Carpenter is. I dont think there are a lot of directors as honest as him
William Friedkin is pretty honest.

Ghosts of Mars, Christine, he's done great work all around
He's really underplayed
Big Trouble In Little China
Best Carpenter interview I have seen.
The advice regarding "how to be a director/rock star" between 1:01:41 and 1:02:50 is legendary

A Masterclass before Masterclasses became a thing. JC is in rare form here. Dope footage!
I'd say this is JUST before he became perma-jaded.
@@sacredcoww You think so?
This guy is an absolute legend!
Possibly the best and most comprehensive interview of Carpenter's I've seen. Great!!!!!
Great. Great interview! A legend
Christine was awesome

Well, when you come to think about it he took the subject and made it his own

I can relate. Try Hereditary, at night on your own with high volume.

GREAT interview
The Hong Kong movie John nentions is called ‘Zu-warriors from the magic mountain’ starring Yuen biao, moon lee, Samo hung and Meng hoi. Great film.
Love Carpenter’s sense of humor & the British humor in this video lol. John is a legend.

An amazing director of classic thriller and horror movies so many classics in his catalog
"what do ya think of Halloween 4, 5, 6?" 1:05:33 LMAO 🤣 lot of great moments in this whole thing but this cracked me up.
The english interviewing automaton definitely required a personality software upgrade... Mr Carpenter is always a class act!
An unusually hearty laugh from JC at 1:08:07
Sounds like Dave Chappelle.

He regrets making Christine? Wow. It's one of his best. He's gotta be bluffing.

It was bc Stephen King didn’t like it & gave it shit. The books are usually better but I love that film & thought it was great.

The interviewer guy skipping "Big Trouble in Little China"! WTF.
Big love for Big Trouble
Son of a bitch must pay!
Honestly good decision, incredibly irritating film that doesn’t come near Tsui Hark’s work

This dude never ages, looks the same in 1994 as today
Hes looked 65 since the late 80s
Hard to believe he’s only about 46 here

Mr Cool my hero. 😎
The Legend.

He has a big cranium and a big brain, genius.
Why don’t they just add subtitles to the questions instead of cranking the volume unbearably
Oh man Christine is a great movie. Wonder if he mellowed towards it with time.

Hes great here but you can totally tell he's fiending for a smoke while he talks

A good interview by horror legend John carpenter
crazy that he regrets christine! thats one of my favorites of his
Still waiting for Quatermass directed by anyone, let alone the Master.
He's only 46 here yet looks 65.
I am 66 and sure hope I don't look as worn out 😛
Smoking does that to you.
he's a chain smoker.
The older he gets the more he looks like David Lo Pan
he looks 90 😭
